I’ve been searching for videos for PTO installation, mainly to know how to properly shim and make sure I have proper backlash, thank you for explaining how a PTO works and breaking down the process….. really saves me money when I can find a video like this!!!

Andy you made my day. When you were trying to get the last bearing off and finally just took the hammer to it lol. It finally felt like how my repair jobs end up. BFH can be the best tool. Have a great day.

Not only did he get after it, it was still in good shape when he laid it on the table.

You made me giggle when you beat the bearing off with the hammer and then put it on the bench saying it was still good. LOL

If this farming thing doesn't pan out, you'd have a very bright future in any shop, diesel or otherwise. You've got some serious skills, Andy!

Great video. Appreciate the explanation on how the pto works...I don't see this kind of stuff in the hvac world...

Another great and detailed explanation of life Farming, Fixing, and Fabricating. Sure appreciate the extra time you put into making quality video's for us to enjoy. I struggle getting one set of GoPro video edited and spliced together to make one coherent finished product. Maybe someday... haha. Thanks

Did several of that particular PTO jobs over 40+ yrs and believe me when they reach the state yours is in Andy I tossed em and went new...the gamble ain't worth it.

Snooping around the transmission with a borescope might give a little peace of mind. Add it to the Christmas list!

There are times on jobs when a manual impact removal tool (aka lump hammer) has to come into use. I note you are quite skilled and experienced when using such a tool. Great video Andy!

Every PTO job I ever did involved an oil bath in transmission gear oil !! Don't know if that's where the hair went or not but probably didn't help !! As someone else said , to tight it whines to loose it rattles and some drivers can't hear either one !!! Choosing that correct speed can be tricky but makes huge difference !Thanks for the video!!

Great video man I really enjoy the shop videos. In the past I have had guys miss a gear so bad that they chip off a piece of a sliding clutch or break something and the little piece falls down and takes out the power takeoff…

Played with too many... Nice thing is, it's usually just cheap bearings and a seal.... Unless the coupler doesn't get greased... Then it's the shaft too. Thanks for the video Andy

Andy most people have no idea what it takes to put a gallon of milk on their table I grew up on a central Indiana dairy farm we milked 60 cows had to milk before school and after school dairy farmers way under paid and under appreciated if I ever get a chance to shake your hand it will be an honor

MAKE SURE YOU GE TTHE RIGHT GASKET TO SHIM THE PTO TO THE TRANS...THERE ARE DIFFERENT THICKNESS GASKETS THAT SET YOUR GEAR LASH ON THAT PTO

Surprised that the backlash isn't more critical other than gasket spacing. Usually it takes a dial indicator and gear marking compound.

pto hims set driven gear backlash with dail indicator 7 to 15 thou

Make sure it was shimmed correctly. To tight will take out the bearing pretty quickly.. 006/. 012 back lash between the countershaft and pto driven gear.

Good video however the reason i watched it was to learn more about exactly how to achieve the correct back-lash between trans and your PTO gear... but it wasn't really explained ... i gotta do this very thing next few days and i need lil bit more schooling on it...

Love these kind of videos where you learn how to work on this stuff leave it or not they're very reason I was watching this videos because we got a crane truck a sterling crane truck that the PTO just like this went out and I wanted to see exactly what you did my biggest problem is is they're saying it's going to take six to eight weeks before we can get one in and I'm wondering if there is any other companies or maybe some other places we can look where they might have them in I'm in North Carolina but I can order them from New York or anywhere it don't matter just get them overnighted or whatever if you have any ideas if you happen to read this I'd appreciate you know any ideas you might have appreciate it man thanks a lot

G'day, endoscope plug in phone about 3 foot long you can see up ya nose down the drain the one l got wooks great l got 2 pictures of my teeth up in the cloud somewhere. The truck is a problem do you log all the fixers you do on them? Keep truckin!!

Great video brother mines is a shaft connected to the pump I keep having leaks on PTO where the shaft connects I believe is the O ring now I hav to replace it again for 3 rd time in 6 months

So Andy the clutch pedal needs to be push in to engage the PTO? That stops everything from turning in inside the Transmission to engaging the PTO?

It uses oil from the transmission

I'd say that's caused from leaving it on while driving faster than it's condition to go.. but just my opinion. Good luck

Make sure your hydraulic system isn’t malfunctioning!

Do you not have a wagon pit to work in so you don't to lay on the floor. On the farm we had a pit so you could stand up and work easy.

That PTO gear box is to close to the trans there is a tool to set that up to figer out how many shims it needs between the trans and the PTO box + gaskits

What brand of bearings do they use, is it SKF?

You forgot to tighten up a bolt looks like. Looks like just in front of the pto on the inspection plate maybe.You couldn’t hold the camera still long enough to be sure

Today just found out my transmission might need to be replaced won't go into low range. Will find out tomorrow. Might be the top cover

im pretty sure its 6 to 12 thousands from the pto drive to counter shaft when you install it Andy im sure you know this already. i have installed so many i never checked them with a dial indectactor just by feel. hes not leaving it engaged while driving i hope ?just buy a new drive Andy

Nice!! You may or may not remember last winter when I sent you a pic of my pto on the manure truck? That damn thing chipped a gear in the trans. Had to call Jerry at R and M in Pennsylvania for a pump. Thirteen hundred dollars later. Then the pto pump went to shit. Patience’s of a Saint you have. It took a 12 pack to get mine back in.

Every time I drain the oil on a vehicle and it comes out pieces of metal, it usually gets expensive.

Bet that deal brought a tear to your eye when you first saw it!!😥😫👎
