This is a ZF gearbox, looks like a 16s160 or something close to it, i've rebuilt a few of these and they never come apart like this, ever, they are normally bastards. All those 'washers' are actually shims and require correct setting and measuring for clearance/preload, my guess is that this thing comes back for 'repair' on a regular basis.

All it takes is one tiny pin or ring out of place and the entire build is for not. My hats off to all you gentlemen. Thank you for sharing your truly amazing skills. It really is video worthy. Back in the day here in England, we used to use sawdust in the oil to reduce noise, a long pipe lever settings for torque bolts and setscrews up, bottle tops for washers, cut new gears with handheld angle grinders, made thrust washers from old brake discs and handmade new clutch discs from compacted cement and straw. We have moved on since those days, but it is nice to see the same hands on old skool skills and techniques in use today in other parts of the world.

Hammering the block and parts directly usually ends in twisted/cracked/broken parts. Using pieces of old tire to absorb the shock is so easy and yet they don't seem to bother with it...

You make a valid point! While hammering directly on parts can sometimes lead to issues like twisting or cracking, using pieces of old tire to absorb the shock is indeed a clever workaround. It's all about finding creative solutions to ensure smooth and precise work. Thanks for sharing your insight! 🛠️👍

I suppose the floor is just permanently oily soil, with the odd piece of cardboard. But they certainly know what they're doing. Great video.
