    Soon, you'll learn: Add 3/4ths of the water up front; let set. Then test and thin as needed. Other than your habitual foulups (which we all eagerly await - and then cheer or groan!) another fine job. It's actually refreshing that Crystal finds a few things not to her liking. I about fell off my chair when she liked the mackerel in the Spanish ration some time back. And the things she turns down are so surprising, like cherry cobbler. Keeps us all guessing, the little darling!

    Rocky Raab The real kicker was that I filmed the Danish ration BEFORE I had posted the Norwegian one, so I didn't benefit from seeing the error of my ways before it was too late. Lots of cringing during editing ;-) I can't predict Crystal's taste, so each time I eagerly await her reaction too. She surprises me at every turn.

    Couldn't sleep tonight so this was a real treat! I served in the USAF from 96-2000 and remember my first mre in basic training (I got corned beef hash...yuck!) But making "chocolate pudding" with a bit of water in out hot cocoa mix was devine! Haha! Love the review as always and the boss is cuter than ever! How is she doing as a new big sister? Love the vids (and the boss). My own experiences with Freeze Dried foods, in absence of a "Fill Line", I always fill to just above the contents, stir and set aside for half the time, there's nothing wrong with topping up the water after, just as long as you stir really well. Keep up the excellent work

    Kiwi Dude - anyone ever tell you "less is more"? :) You can always add more water later... Works for chemical flameless heaters too - you can add more later. I enjoy the editing and clips of cartoons/films/ads that you rememeber. It would be cool if you tried to do a Timtam slam with the boss from ration components. A lot of them have hot chocolate - you just need timtams or some chocolate bar that is porous enough to to the tim tam slam. :)

    Really odd that there's a packet in there of something calling itself "Louisiana Hot Sauce," but made in Wisconsin and appearing to be completely unrelated to Louisiana *brand* hot sauce from New Iberia, Louisiana. Also, was the end clip how they signaled the end of the broadcast day on TV in New Zealand?

    Emilee Baker Hi Emilee, yes - that clip ran once programming was finished prior to 24hr TV over here. I think the last time it aired was 1994, but it was around for about 20 years prior. It's a piece of Kiwiana and everybody seems to have fond memories of watching it as a child on special occasions, and later as an adult for the same reasons.

    Kiwi Dude we used to have something similar here, except ours was a bee (because of the string of newspapers that the television stations owners had...i.e. Fresno Bee, Modesto Bee, etc).. and our little cartoon bee (named Scoopy for some reason), would tip over the call letters and make a bed out of them.

    xodreamerskyes Good question. I keep the extra bits I don't use in the review, so I have a bug chock full of coffee, tea, salt, pepper, sugar, wet wipes, toilet paper etc... I also keep the cutlery if it's of good quality (the U.S. MRE and Aussie CR1M spoons spring to mind). Apart from that, the videos are the best reminder.

    A tip for your tea (from a huge tea drinker)- don't squeeze your tea bag when you take it out of the water. All of the tannin that makes the tea bitter stays in the bag, and when you squish it, it goes back into the tea. Try not squeezing it next time, your tea will be less bitter :) Love your videos!

    I believe the only difference between the farmhouse pate' and the others is the amount of certain ingredients put into it and the texture of the grind. I believe the farmhouse pate' has a "course" grind and the chicken has a finer texture. Don't quote me on that though. Lol great video as always!

    Two things: 1. The 24hr rations seems a little odd to me - logistically. Does the soldier carry like 2 or 3 of these big boxes in a pack? I'm not sure, but I believe in the USA, our guys eat once or maybe twice a day with the MRE's. 2. Have you ever eaten the entire meal, like for a substitute for one of your "normal" meals. Thanks!

I thought it was a largely British Advert. BTW Here's an interesting fact. To get the monkeys to "talk" they actually spread peanut butter on their lips and the monkeys trying to eat it, seemed like them speaking. (The same method is also employed for many reality TV Programs and Soaps)

    They recently shuffled some of the products. So now they only contain 1 proteinbar and 1 Rawbite, instead of 2 and 4. Also the lovely ryebread has been replaced by some "whole wheat" nonsense. The hot meals got a bit better tho, so that's something.

  • @KiwiDudeMRE

    @KiwiDudeMRE

    9 жыл бұрын

    Killer390 I'm not sure what it is. It could be that all of the 'has this gone bad?' factor is removed from the vacuum-packed, freeze-dried stuff. So no matter how old it is, it's usually going to be ok to eat. It could also be that the portions usually end-up being quite large. I wasn't a huge fan of the 'Astronaut' branded freeze-dried meal though.

  • @jaydedjen110

    @jaydedjen110

    Kiwi Dude I read somewhere that the astronaut food tends to be bland because their sense of taste is numbed in zero-gravity, so there's no real need for a lot of seasonings or taste. Love freeze dried ice cream though.

    What got you started on your quest to taste Military Rations? Hubby grew up next to a military base and when the rations expiration dates were past they were given to anyone that wanted them. Wife was gone, rations for dinner! Out camping, hiking or hunting, rations! Hungry to lazy to cook, rations! He wont touch the things anymore, lol!

    Biki Honko I've been interested in Military rations for as long as I can remember. I think it's something about them being greater than the sum of their parts, as they also reveal things about their home Nation in terms of food culture, food science, morale in the field etc... Plus, like your Hubby - they come in real handy when the Wife isn't home for dinner! Lol
