They all said VEGEMITE Makes Steaks Better, so we tried it!

Ойын-сауық

Vegemite is Australia most popular food! They also said its the best for meat and steaks. So, we all tried and and the results are insane.

Vegemite is pretty similar to a vege stock cube so yeah it will work well in any reduction sauce in moderation. A better test would have been vegemite compound butter because that is how we actually eat vegemite most of the time (butter + vegemite on toast)

well not really, Vegemite is from leftover brewers' yeast extract, a byproduct of beer manufacturing so completely different and tis an acquired taste not everyone in australia likes it but there are those of us that do.

As someone who grew up in Aus, I don't think I've ever had it that way. But the funny thing after my HS graduation, I went back with some friends from America and they all enjoyed it. Just because I was under the misconception that it was something you either liked when growing up or not and it stayed with you.

Vegemite is the Australian version of Marmite, which was first produced in England. Although both products share a similar production process and are made from brewer's yeast extract, Vegemite includes additional spices and celery and onion flavorings, making it more savory. The name "Vegemite" reflects the vegetable flavors of these ingredients, which distinguish it from Marmite.

I'm just worried when they do it they aren't going to use the premium oyster sauce. The main oyster sauce brand has two different versions One is normal and is not very oystery and that's the one you normally see but the premium one is way better and a much stronger oyster flavor. It's the one with the painting of the mother and son in a boat, Rather than the basic one with a panda on it.

As a proud Aussie, I love my Vegemite, and a good way to cook it with meat is to use a lamb shoulder or leg, rub vegemite onto the leg to use as sort of a thick binder instead of mustard or oil, then add your BBQ rub. You do need a bit of elbow grease to get it to work, but don't dilute the vegemite with water, the effort from trying to rub it all over the meat works it in-between the fibers, and as the vegemite crispens and tacks up it will yield a way better crust. If its authentic, it needs to be cooked on a spit on open coals, but a spit attachment to a weber works just fine too. Not sure how it works, but it acts almost like MSG and make the lamb more lamb-y, but also takes away any gaminess., and adds a very nice complementary flavour. I would highly recommend trying it, but for those who haven't already acquired the taste, you want it so the meat is stained brown and there is a little caked substance, but it shouldn't be much thicker than a standard mustard binder.

If you use the Vegemite as a minor ingredient in foods it will add a nice bitterness and umami to the dish, as well as salt. Leaving it as the star would probably make it too intense. I do have a sous vide in a multi-function slow cooker so I definitely might try it some day. Guga, you could start a (rare) series of videos where you re-do attempts at using ingredients that the audience disagreed with your approach. The format would be different & that ought to be some extra work to figure out but I think it could be nice to see if ingredients previously dismissed can actually work well. Would also probably please the audience to see themselves in video / video based on feedback (a more "interactive" format). o/ I also thought you would be making compound butter with vegemite, and now I'm afraid I'll never get to see it happen. :'(
