Moving Past Dental Fear | Gabriella Blazquez | TEDxUConnFarmington

Dental fear and anxiety affects about a quarter of the population, and prevents many from getting the care they need and deserve. This talk aims to cover strategies we can employ to prevent the formation of dental fear and tackle it if it already exists. Dentists and patients can work together to develop a dental visit plan to reduce dental fear and thus improve access to care. Gabriella Blazquez is a third-year dental student at the University of Connecticut who is perusing a specialty in endodontics. She is passionate about providing care to patients in underserved communities, including those with dental fear and anxiety. In her spare time, she enjoys watching old films, trying new recipes, and hiking with her two dogs, Loch and Nessa. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Just watching this was enough to trigger panic. Human touch does help but all the extra PPE makes it ten times worse. I absolutely must see the dental team as human rather than haz mat suits.

I ve visited many dentists so far but none was really able to accommodate my wishes nor they really care much about my phobia.....every Dentist seemed to always be in a hurry , pushing million xrays on me /i hate xrays/and telling me what they think I should do while I ve had my own preferences ....so in the end not much was solved........they just dont care dont have a patience to deal with phobic patients ....unless u have a friend or family member who is in a biz or u r super rich U dont get pampered......sedation is probably the last resort...

I have stop brushing teeth for over 6 years now... not concern with dental care/phobia instead an exploration. Surprisingly, no turn back and I do have bad teeth, that is prior this exploration. The tooth has eco system to clean up food. The dental industry is right on money, people do need to brush their teeth because of food they consume, specifically the type of food. Example, I never know cooking oil is corrosive substance.

its all good until there is a deep decay and pain, abscess etc...I agree that most dental procedures are uneccessary and brutal tho...aimed to make dentists rich
