Eradicating the Dental Divide with AI: new era of preventive care | Florian Hillen | TEDxBoston

NOTE FROM TED: This talk only represents the speaker's personal business approach to and understanding of dental health and disease. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t...
Many diseases start with tooth or gum issues that go undetected or neglected. Yet dental care has been a distant stepchild of healthcare, and dentists are seen as focused specialists. The tools dentists have had for diagnosis, mainly X-rays, are challenging for even the best practitioners to use effectively and consistently. AI will change this. Using Videa Health's AI, dentists have been able to spot over 30% more dental conditions to address, and patients are more confident with the treatment recommendations. With the power of dental AI platforms, dentists will step forward as a critical component of overall healthcare, and more people will get the care they need earlier, lowering overall health costs and improving health outcomes. The promise of AI revolutionizing healthcare may be suffering from long-standing hype, but AI is already unlocking the full health potential of dentistry.
Florian Hillen is Founder & CEO of VideaHealth, a venture-backed company developing Artificial Intelligence to detect diseases in dental imaging, helping dentists to avoid missing diseases and offering better health services to their patients. Interesting, my earlier comment was deleted. RD article which was mentioned, highlighted that financial incentives do drive treatment. And that it’s not dentists miss catching caries on radiographs.
