    Interesting point at 4.20, tailgater. Firstly you wrote in the notes the word 'car', I'm wondering if your thoughts expressed more of an expletive haha. I sure a lot of new riders will hesitate on pulling over like that, thinking well I have a right to be here etc or simply distracted by a (insert expletive) following so close, causing them to lose full concentration. Much much better to have the confidence to just pull over (safely) and let them annoy someone else. Cheers Leanna.

    Haha, perhaps! It's never as easy to concentrate on forward planning when there's something dangerous going on behind. For me it's simple. Remove/reduce the danger if I can. Good to hear from you Graham and thanks for the comment 😊

    I expected a car might pull out on me the other day, so i slowed down just in case. Then at the very last second they did it anyway! even though the lane they were turning into, was blocked due to train barrier. Caused me to come off (only minor scratches done) and i didn't even get an apology! Just glad i was prepared for it, if i wasn't i could have gone into his side

    Hi, sorry to hear that. I would possibly recommend you watch my braking upload about to come out in the next couple of weeks, as if you had already slowed down, I can only assume you came off through suddenly/harshly braking when you realised the car was in fact not going to stop. I'd also ask whether your intention might have been interpreted by the car as slowing down to let them out, especially if there was a queue of traffic after their junction. Sometimes it's possible to give the signals to other road users which you may not have intended. Just a thought. Every day is a learning day 😊

    @@motorcyclelessonsuk Hi, yeah looking back i realised my problem was harsh braking. As for the other car, there was fully no space for it to even move out. Even afterwards when i got up and was ready to move on he was still stuck in the middle of the road blocking traffic for a few minutes as the barrier for the train tracks had come down. Dunno if you know this area too well but it was near Basford which when those train barriers come down they are down for ages!

    @@alexhughes48well done. It's always good to try to see where we might have been able to do something differently, so next time, fingers crossed we do it better! No, I'm not often in the Basford area as the test routes are all on the other side of town.

    Great info as ever, thanks for sharing. Little question if I may, apart from slowing down as appropriate, is their anything special we should do when going over the sort of speed bumps that go across all of the road like pull in the clutch or something else? Same goes for going over cattle grids in the countryside. Thanks.

  • @motorcyclelessonsuk

    @motorcyclelessonsuk

    3 ай бұрын

    You're welcome. Depends on the speed bump type. Some of them are fine to go over without doing anything different. What makes me laugh is when students don't actually slow down to go over the hump... If you slow down as intended, there's not much need to do anything differently. However, pulling in the clutch momentarily for the more severe humps can help to prevent catching the throttle. For cattle grids, don't be afraid of them. I prefer to take them a touch faster with clutch out rather than going extremely slowly, making sure you cross perpendicular to the grid, not at an angle. Hope that helps 😊
