So I felt really good and confident going in to my MOD 2 today and came out with a pass so I would like to thank you for playing your part in this albeit completely indirectly. Keep up the good work

    Another super video, got my mod 2 next month so out every day practicing and watching your videos are so helpful. My biggest two areas to work on with shoulder checks, are when passing parked cars forgetting to check left when pulling back in to position two and also too exaggerated a check on roundabouts (though in the correct direction).

  • @motorcyclelessonsuk

    @motorcyclelessonsuk

    Very good. It's not compulsory to do a shoulder check to move back into position 2, unless there's a high possibility that a cyclist/scooter rider could get between you and the parked vehicle you are passing.

    Hi. This is a fantastic series of videos. I have had 10 hours of tuition with a local instructor and no real instruction on when and how to do a good lifesaver - needless to say, I have sacked them and gone elsewhere. Leanna as always very useful - trying to teach my wife about lifesavers and where/why you should use them only this weekend funny enough, this was really helpful as I can talk about it before and during a ride but her concentration is always on something else it's nice to be able to sit back and see on your videos, I like the roundabout looking at the "big gap", I was taught look where the danger is going to come from but that seems simpler. She is becoming more confident on the road, machine handling is improving especially the slow riding though she did learn the hard way (whilst in a slightly gravelly car park), why we don't grab the front brake and to look where you want the bike to go 🤭🥴😅.. Wife and bike both fine but a good lesson none the less..

    Hi, I’m a UK instructor (resting…long story!) and this is the first of your vids I’ve seen. Absolutely fantastic, really clear and accurate advice!. I’ve often struggled over the lifesaver or shoulder check issue and have argued that lifesaver is for when you’re putting the bike 90 degrees to the direction of traffic such as right and U turns, or lane changes, shoulder checks are for moving off and position changes, but truth is they are the same and riders at CBT and test level don’t need the complication they just need to know why and when to check the blind spots and do it! and great of you to mention the problem of overdoing it. I also love the way you refer to check “the biggest gap” on exiting a roundabout, it’s the first time I’ve heard it and look forward to using it in my own teaching if/when I get back to it. Finally I’ve tried to find something wrong, ‘cos I’m a grumpy old bloke, and the best I could come up with was a qualified rider riding on ‘L’ plates should first obscure them ;). I look forward to working through your other videos and picking up some more tips and ideas. When you ride you’re not Invincible, you’re Invisible! Rog

  • @motorcyclelessonsuk

    Thanks Rog, I appreciate your comments. There's actually no law on having to obscure or cover the L plates so we are perfectly fine to be riding with them on the bikes. All the best with getting back to work 😊. Winter is a good time to be off however!

    good morning Leanne i was actually doing a life saver this morning as i passed a big long lorry on my left, i just like to keep an eye on their wheel as i pass them for any slight change of there direction, Then i saw just in time a dead fox in front of me ☹i had no time to get out the way so i just went over it, i felt the bike slip a little but i think because i wasn't holding on tight the bike done her thing and then the drama was over. i think it woke up the drivers behind me 😂 oh yes i loved the video by the way 😂 Hmm you might be near the end of this series but there is no end to us watching these so just keep on riding your bike with handy tips and keep us entertained 🙂 from your stalker (kev) safe ride and stay healthy young lady ❤

    Ah that's not good. A combination of forwards and rearward observations are always useful, not to let one detract from the other 😬 Well done for dealing with it and not panicking. Thank you, I have a few left to do, but generally short and sweet ones now. Not quite sure what will come up next after this as I'll soon be taking 3 months off work and bikes for an operation, so there won't be any filming. I'll have to spend some time looking through saved footage for inspiration 😂 Take care and thanks as always for your kind comments 😊

    Life savers are actually a good way to signal any traffic behind you that you have intentions to move. If they see your helmet swivelling they know you might switch lanes, turn in somewhere, ... . In mod2 you also have to do it significantly enough that the examiner notices you doing it. It's not enough for you to know, he needs to see you doing the movement.

  • @motorcyclelessonsuk

    @motorcyclelessonsuk

    Yes, point. Sometimes students actually do lifesavers when they don't need to and I remind them that the traffic around them might then be expecting them to change lanes or position, so avoid doing them when you DON'T need to. Thanks for your comments 😊

  • @DuncanMacInnes

    Thanks as always for this - so helpful. Can I have some advice as to hiw you turn your head for a lifesaver. I know it seems a silly question, but through my training (CBT) and learning now riding on my own bike, the lifesaver is a turn of my head - chin - to the tip of the shoulder so I I can see from the corner of my visor to the blind spot. Otherwise if I turn with my body, I would turn the handlebars into a dangerous position. Is this the right posture for a lifesaver - chin to the tip of the shoulders? Thanks again.😀

    A brilliant series of instructional videos, many thanks for posting them. Small point though, should you be displaying L plates on your bike when you possess a full A license ? The constabulary aren’t impressed when they are left on a car when it’s being driven by a qualified driver. I believe it’s known as “not driving in accordance with your license” and it may result in the inconvenience of you being pulled up.

    Thankfully it was much more 'black and white' in the '70's... if in doubt do a shoulder check...back then, basically you had to ride like you didn't have any mirrors to pass your test. I probably still do more 'shoulder checks' than I 'need' to' But like keep cancelling your indicators...there is nothing much 'wrong' in that.
