If they were being facetious, then the post is lacking emoticons or the a like. Why have them at all you say? Technically they aren’t there (not in the rules), just player agreements with no foundations. This is similar to agreements without documentations in business. For example, I deal with trading and with a group of other advisors, we don’t charge each other trading fees (or sometimes split), but with others like large banks, we will have them cough up the fees. Rules state fees are always assessed, but we agree to pay each other the same fee to make it null. Just like baseball’s unwritten rules: agreements with no foundation that isn’t a part of the rules.

We still play defense. Pitchers still have to throw strikes. Why did I coach them this way? Because my job as coach isn't just about baseball. Life isn't fair. Life isn't easy. Other teams aren't going to yield because we are losing bad. Don't expect a team to do that. And in life, it's the same thing. I think any player who leaves the bullpen area for a fight 325 ft away should be fined ten-percent (10%) of his salary made payable to Major League Baseball. The MLB should, in turn, be required by their rules to donate an equal amount of money to a charity of the chief umpire’s choice.

I don't know how wild I am about pitchers throwing at celebrating batters but the two that really are stupid is not bunting away a no hitter and not bunting when to expand a big lead, especially against good line ups. Overcoming a 7 run lead may be unlikely but it's not at all unheard of.

  • @michaelbanks898

Never understand why MLB doesn't implement the same rule the NBA does when it comes to fights. You leave the bench and step on the court you are ejected. Should be the same for baseball. You leave the dugout or your position to get into a fight, you are ejected. Stupid brawls that no one wants to see that just screw up the game.

The red sox one is bull. Escobar was right for standing up for himself 5 points is not enough of a lead to feel that way. You need at least an 8 point lead before applying any type of mercy rules.

What was the score and inning of the bunt that broke up the perfect game? If it was only a two run game, his job is to get on base, anyway possible. If you want to bitch about it being broken up by a bunt...play better defense or throw a better pitch.

The problem is that the unwritten rules are in effect going against the actual rules. Like officially there is no way to forfeit a game. But effectively that is what the unwritten rule seeks do. Like from a strictly competitive standpoint why should a team allow their opponents to "save their fresh pitchers"? So they can lose to them the next day? If you want to go home, put someone good in and get the outs. If they don't like that there isn't a forfeit or mercy rule. They should be lobbying MLB to add one rather than hitting guys for playing the game out as intended. Seems like misplaced frustration.
