    Joe West could probably have one of these made about him alone. He's one of the most notoriously horrible umps out there. How he's had a job for this long is mind-boggling. Jim Wolf (I think that's his first name) and Angel Hernandez are also terrible umpires.

    Any umpire that replaces them will miss calls too. Replays have shown how good the umps we have now are. We have the luxury of watching slow motion replay to make a call. All the umps in MLB are the best in the world. Quit your whining.

    @@chetthehoss just to back you up, Angel Hernandez had 5 mid-game challenges made to him in one game that resulted in 3 overturned calls. That’s beyond just simple error. He’s so notoriously bad that federal courts sided with MLB when they defended not promoting him by saying he performed poorly.

    Umps should be fined for missed calls. Joe west especially will intentionally make bad calls on pitches if he is in a bad mood. His ego really needs a good punch in the face sometimes.

    @@jackson5116 a buddy got me a signed copy of country Joe's album. It's one of those gift exchanges with a lot of people trying to one up everyone with weird crappy gift. I asked him who he got to sign this, because his handwriting is unreadable. Joe west. Bullshit, but still funny. He tells me look under the CD. And its one of those convention pics with you standing behind the dude at a long table. This was a fing convention and that lunatic was charging. Everyone was was in shorts and t-shirts, so it wasn't near Chicago anytime recently. I forgot exactly where it was, but said it was in the spring about 3 hours from him. Drove six hours, actually paid for this and never said a word for half a year. I was torn between being wildly impressed, and wildly concerned about his mental health. Either way its easily the funniest thing I own.🤣🤣

    Do you fine players for errors? For swings and misses? For baserunning mistakes? Why would umpires be considered such superior human beings that they're not allowed to make mistakes? (Joe West, on the other hand, behaves provocatively at times toward individual players and that definitely should be addressed.)

    Machado’s a piece of shit but leaving your foot on the bag is dangerous to the runner too. Specifically on that play, him leaving his foot on the bag was a dick move AND intentional. They both should have been tossed

    @@keithhernandez48 what? Did you watch the play? Aguilars foot was half in the dirt. He was on the edge of the bag. Machado had at LEAST half the bag to work with. It was super clear that if he had picked up his foot in a normal running motion he wouldn’t have kicked Aguilar. You’re really trying to say that, with all the other bullshit crybaby stuff that machado has pulled, he didn’t do that intentionally?

    That respect should cut both ways, players, trainers, managers, umpires, all professionals and should treat each other as such. The umpires shouldn’t be playing games with players like Joe West was, they should do their job using clear and concise communication, no showboating or staring players down, just umpire.

They act like everyone wants to watch them and not the players.There has been bad cops in recent years but it can’t be compared to the amount of bad umps there are. If you complain about something to a cop, 99% act as professional as possible. If you complain to an ump it’s not rare to be warned or even liked out. You can not compare the two, it doesn’t work like that.

    Umpires / refs making bad calls is part of sports -- and must be tolerated. Ever see a schoolyard pick-up game where most of the time guys are screaming and arguing? No fun. Umps are a plus.

    Mind you, Cabrera was freaking out over two strike calls and was in the wrong but how Matt Williams, manager of the Nats, comes out and pushes his player like that. Man, screw that. Matt Williams was a cancer to the organization and held back that team in a lot of ways. No reason the roster he had should've had the seasons they did.

    I have seen dozens of players get in an ump's face and scream, the only times I have ever seen an ump respond by putting their hands on that yelling player it has been Joe West doing it. Even if they are yelling at you because you rejected them, If they aren't threatening you, you don't get to put your hands on a player. West is a disgrace.

    3:10 is the perfect example of why the MLB needs to get with the times and use computers to call balls & strikes. The home plate umpire should be there to see if the guy is safe or out when coming to home or when a batter swings his bat halfway or greater for a strike. Other than that, the computer will always get the call correct.

    If that pitch missed the plate it wasn't more than half an inch. The computers used in the Atlantic League to call balls and strikes are missing a bunch pitches. The computer will not always get the call correct.

    Look up Delmon young throws bat at umpire. It might have been his brother. But either way a bat was TOSSED. Not literally thrown but he strikes out then he leaves camera view, then you see a bat come flying at ump. I think it was in the minors so not a great video but still classic

    Used to be a pitcher and I'm a big fan of expanding the zone with 2 strikes but I think going to an automatic strike zone will make baseball a better game and eliminate some of this ridiculous drama.

    @Bob S has to do with whether the play would be reasonably made by an infielder under normal effort (no diving, full speed backpedaling, etc). If it is more reasonable for the outfield to make the play then infield fly rule is not in effect regardless of who ends up playing the ball.

    Missing the Chase Utley slide where he clearly intentionally slide into Tejada and broke his leg, and the umpires overturned the out call and made him safe. That was the biggest moment that made me lose faith in the sport for a while

Same thing when QBs roll outside the pocket and ground the football.. I don’t think the NFL needs a loophole to the intentional grounding rule, so they can legally ground the ball.. I believe that if a QB doesn’t want to take a sack, or get his leg mangled, THEN HE SHOUOD HAND THE BALL TO A RUNNING BACK!.. THATS football.. And if you don’t want guys sliding late into 2nd base, then hit them in the forehead with the ball on the next relay to first.. They’ll stop sliding late, trust me.. That’s baseball..

    I remember in high school baseball there was this one ump that no one liked when he judged because he called bad shots, and kicked people out for whatever reason it be. After a while EVERY team in protest refuse to play the game if he was umping mind you they did this too when many school were putting s lot of money toward getting the players around and if he was ump both sides didn’t get on the field

    3:04- They say you as a player can't touch the umpire, well in my humble opinion it works both ways. You as an umpire cannot touch a player. If Papelbon wanted to sucker punch Joe West there, he would have had a legitimate beef why because he was physically provoked by West.
