Mission Workshop Reviews: The Spar Version 2

The Spar is a lightweight, weatherproof sling pack designed to carry the daily essentials. One of MW's most compact bags, it can be worn in either single-strap sling configuration or as a backpack with optional backpack harness.

I was feeling like an imbecile, unable to attach the deluxe strap until I saw your video. I may still be an imbecile, but I can attach a bag strap now. Thank you!

Thanks for the review. I have the ver 1 Spar. It's a great bag! Just FYI. the sleeve inside fits a 10in ch iPad pro, but a 13 inch laptop. Also, if you put your iPad in the sleeve, you won't be able to access it through the side pocket. But overall a great waterproof and lightweight bag!

When it comes to straps I found that using a needle nose pliers works the best for pulling one component through another.

I was hoping the next Spar would be widened by about 1” to fit the 12.9” iPad in the interior sleeve. I suggested this to MW, but apparently no dice.

Yeah, they need to address this issue. At this price point users are more likely to have an iPad Pro 12.9.

Have you tested whether or not this would rail onto the front of the Integer? Seems unlikely but I figured if anyone has tried it, it would be you!

Sadly it is not possible. You could rig it, but it’s not going to be a perfect fit.

Hey there, do you know what the dimensions are for the section on the back panel to hide the strap attachment? On the Spar V2, does that section go straight across? I was wondering if I could slide my phone there for quick access. Thanks!

The pass through doesn’t exist on V2 unfortunately. But I wouldn’t put my phone there anyway personally.

found this while lookin at getting a spar vx olive or gray; seems like there isn’t any photos or videos of these that are recent. any opinion on those, and on a random note, why does the X pattern on the fabric of specifically those two colors look so pronounced on the website?

Yea…i can’t really give a good reason except to say some colors show the rip stop pattern more than others. Personally I like the look but it’s not for everyone.

@@MissionWorkshopReviews Thanks for the reply! I just got the Gray VX Spar in and am surprised to find it looks so much darker than any of the photos on their website, including any other gray vx bag. The photos make it look much lighter but this looks almost like the regular Spar gray… kinda confused, because I just got the gray VX utility pouch and it matches up with the shade of gray in the photos. Do you happen to own any of the Spars that are currently for sale or know why the new spar is like a completely different color? Also on another note, I have a black one I was planning on returning but wanted to ask if you know why the fabrics are different between them. The dark dark gray has the diamond pattern overlaying a grid of tiny squares, whereas the black is just the diamond pattern. Thanks again

@@grimrhythm8099 yeah so I know exactly what you’re talking about. Gray especially doesn’t seem to render well on most computer screens. Many folks have complained. As for the fabric differences, yep I have noticed that. Slightly different variations in the VX07 MW sources from dimension polyant for subsequent production runs.

Any idea if The Spar Black Camo comes with the Fidlock buckle or sold separately?

How would you go about attaching the Spar V2 to the Integer?

  • @MissionWorkshopReviews

    @MissionWorkshopReviews

Jacob Feuerbach are you just asking how Arkiv works? You would need to purchase four clips from MW for $10. They attach to the back of your Spar. You are now able to slide the Spar on the Arkiv rails of the Integer. Lmk if that answers your question.

@@MissionWorkshopReviews Sorry my question was so vague. I have clips and I understand how the system works. I regularly swap axis and tool pouch onto my Integer. I was specifically having issues on how to attach Spar onto Integer. The rails are shorter and it just seems awkward. I was just seeing if you had tried to do it before. From what I can tell there are 3 positions for clips on V2 spar. When I put them on top and middle the spar hangs down pretty far. When I put them on bottom 2 it seems a little better but still not a great fit.

Jacob Feuerbach ah. Nah man, that’s it! I just use the top and middle positions and use the Integer strap to keep it secure. I haven’t come up with a better way except using the middle and bottom slots sometimes but the overhang is on the top instead of the bottom.

@@MissionWorkshopReviews Thanks for the reply. I just don't think they go well together. I think I'll stick with Axis and someday get a tech pouch to see if they combo well together on the Integer.

Jacob Feuerbach technically speaking MW does not list the Spar as a compatible Arkiv accessory on the Integer’s page. The tech case is awesome tho especially for the Integer assuming you got a lot of tech dongles
