    hello like your videos i wonder between the speedwell and the hauser who would you pick?

  • @MissionWorkshopReviews
    @MissionWorkshopReviews4 ай бұрын

    honestly they are two totally separate bags! The only think they have in common is the bladder. If you want a regular sized bag with room for a laptop and also want to use it for hiking, then the Speedwell is the choice. If you want a bag purely for hiking and camping, then I would go with the Hauser. While the Hauser is only 14L compared to the Speewell's 22L, it has a lot more pockets for organization as well as handy straps for securing sleeping bags. The Speedwell is a better all-around bag and the Hauser is a better hiking/camping specific bag.

    It’s not recommended to dry merino. The heat will degrade it. There should be no shrinkage if you wash it in cold water. I’ve had it for years no issues.

    Does the wool face of the jacket wet out when used in wet weather? I would imagine the membranes underneath provide the true waterproofing, but curious how "wet" the wool gets if spending time in the rain.

  • @MissionWorkshopReviews
    @MissionWorkshopReviews11 ай бұрын

    Great question. I’m not going to say it’s not wool that they use, as I am sure it is, but it is made in such a way that it is really more like a wool felt. It’s nearly imperceivable. So to answer your question, no it doesn’t wet out at all. But that’s because the wool is essentially microscopic.

    I was able to snag a pretty damn rare Vandal VX21 in black from 2021. It was a massive hack to use the main compartment as a pseudo quick access pocket while in compact mode. I love this bag so much since whenever I'm taking packages to the post office / local ups, the expanded mode becomes clutch as hell. It's also versatile for groceries and trips to the laundromat. I never appreciated the rambler / vandal cargo pack lineup until now. I always felt they were barebones bags however since I now have changed my packing style to pouches, I am thriving lol.

    @@MissionWorkshopReviews Thanks for the reply! I just got the Gray VX Spar in and am surprised to find it looks so much darker than any of the photos on their website, including any other gray vx bag. The photos make it look much lighter but this looks almost like the regular Spar gray… kinda confused, because I just got the gray VX utility pouch and it matches up with the shade of gray in the photos. Do you happen to own any of the Spars that are currently for sale or know why the new spar is like a completely different color? Also on another note, I have a black one I was planning on returning but wanted to ask if you know why the fabrics are different between them. • @joshpalmer1106
    @joshpalmer11062 жыл бұрын

    Ok let me step in a clear up the purpose of the pockets being in the location that they are. The reason for their location comes from brands like Arcteryx who moved the location of their pockets up on their Alpha series jackets to they could still be accessed while using a backpack with a waste band. Keep in mind that this design is purely form over function. If you were strapped into a climbing harness while halfway up the Chief in Squamish higher pockets meant that you could still warm your hands, or reach your Clif Bar. The design trend for brands most technical pieces is to have the pockets higher up. Thanks Arcteryx! I LOVE MW clothing with all my heart but their technical features and design are for the urban lifestyle. That's why these pockets seem so foreign to most people who will buy this jacket. With that being said, those of us who do own a Rhite and cycle in the winter, XC Ski, hike, snowboard etc... you will love the fact that you can warm your hands while wearing your backpack. The location of the pockets is one of the main reason why I bought this jacket. MW uses some insanely cool materials but their products are still fashion over function. For those of us who live in the mountains of British Columbia this jacket is a fancy around town jacket (which is why I bought it) and I would never use it ski touring in the Rockies, or when temps dip below -30 Celsius.

  • @MissionWorkshopReviews
    @MissionWorkshopReviews2 жыл бұрын

    Interesting. Thanks for the input. Makes a lot of sense. Out of curiosity what does one wear when it’s -30°?

  • @joshpalmer1106
    @joshpalmer11062 жыл бұрын

    @@MissionWorkshopReviews -30 is actually easier than you think because it is purely a dry cold. There is very little moisture in the air when it's that cold so you only really need to worry about wearing a jacket with some loft to trap the air that gets warmed by your body. If there is wind then you need to wear something that is windproof. If you are going around town, maybe to the dog park or something like that then the Rhite will be fine with a good set of gloves and a warm sweater or mid layer. I wear mine with a Northmar vest and an Arcteryx sweater. In my mind what makes the Rhite an around town jacket compared to other jackets that are meant for serious activity is that it's fit is a little too snug to fit over multiple mid layers, it lacks hood adjustments for serious wind, or to fit better over a ski/touring/climbing/bike helmet. The sleeves aren't long enough to shield the back of hands from weather, it lacks internal storage for your gloves, goggles, scarf, hat etc. For ultra cold activities the Alpha parka, or Alpha SV, or Macai from Arcteryx would work fine.

  • @MissionWorkshopReviews
    @MissionWorkshopReviews2 жыл бұрын

    @@joshpalmer1106 I see. You’re from Bc yea? I’ve spent a lot of time in Alaska and while I stay mostly coastal and avoid the inland chill of Fairbanks, I’ve found the Rhite to be warm AF. But I see your point that the Rhite isn’t expedition ready like the other jackets.

  • @joshpalmer1106
    @joshpalmer11062 жыл бұрын

    @@MissionWorkshopReviews Alaska is Awesome! I'm originally from a small mountain town in the north of BC where we would get at least a couple weeks of -30 or colder each year. Sometimes as early as Halloween! Yes the Rhite is warm and damn does it ever look good! Especially for average life if AK or BC but yes, where it starts to lack is when you need a jacket to perform specific tasks (ie sports or activities) in a cold climate. To be clear I LOVE this jacket but the comments about the pockets show that it's intended use is a bit confusing for some. It is designed to be one of the most technically advanced jackets on the market which is reflected in the design choice of the pockets.

  • @MissionWorkshopReviews
    @MissionWorkshopReviews2 жыл бұрын

    Fair point. I didn’t mention the Arkiv rails because most every MW bag has them nowadays. I did do a full review of the Arkiv system a while back on their main Arkiv bag, the R6. Arkiv isn’t a hook and loop system but a proprietary system that only works in the MW universe with their own accessories (although there are some hacks). It’s relatively simple and involves sliding Arkiv brackets on the back of the Arkiv accessory (e.g. cell phone pouch) over the nylon strip. m.kzread.info/dash/bejne/pmd8paeQqcm6aZM.html
