Military Technologies of the Second Industrial Revolution (Civil War and WWI Compared)
www.tomrichey.net
This is the second part of my lecture on the Second Industrial Revolution (1850-1914), focusing on military technologies that were developed during this time. To explain the technological achievements of the Second Industrial Revolution, I compare armaments used during the American Civil War and World War I. While the Civil War employed technologies that were an improvement over pre-industrial wars (e.g., repeating rifles), these technologies were child's play compared to technologies that existed 50 years later (e.g., machine guns, poison gas, airplanes).

Thanks! Someday, I will, but I will have to do some more research first.
Tom Richey I seriously appreciate your videos so much! You make everything seem so clear and you've helped me so much with my AP Euro class. I appreciate you so much!!!
Interesting, thank u Mr. Richey, please keep them coming, they're just about all helpful, informative and interesting to watch.
Very interesting and cool information
Awesome Video! You should do a video over World War One.
You make amazing videos! You should try collaborating with CrashCourse to make a European History playlist. They may have covered some of the material in World History, but you're an amazing teacher and you go much more in depth on these events and concepts. Thanks for being awesome. Your videos are also hilarious.
Great Video! I am a college Western Civilizations Student, and it was very helpful! :)
can you do one over the revolutions of russia
Nice and informative and I thank you for that, but wouldn't it be better when you (the narrator) is in a small picture and the thing that you are talking about is on the big one?
No mention of how hot air balloons were used for reconnaissance in the civil war? Or tanks and zeppelins?
Good overview. And there was still some notion of military pride reflected in their uniform. for example, the buttons on the uniform were not practical at all but still looked formal.

When ever I see anything about ww1 . I think steam punk
Gatling gun? Civil War?
This is true
problem with ironclads: either can't fight or can't float
Your could have mentioned barbed wire and compare hot air balloons to the airplanes.

Dirigibles or ridged airship were developed during the 1880's and 90 with the first successful Zeppelin in operation in 1900, the last year of the 19th Century. Ridged Airships were used greatly in WWI and would certainly be considered part of the Second Industrial Revolution.
Quick firing gun
