Tom Richey Alsace-loraine were part of Germany for 600 years. French annexed it.Then in 1187.Germany re annexed it back. After ww1.French took it back despite protests in Alsace.Because people in alsace are Germans.same thing happen to Austria and South Tyroll.To this day people in those regions see themselves as Germans and want independence. On top ... After Austrohungarian empire was split.People in Austria and Sudetenland also wanted to be part of Germany. All of this was forbidden.German people were basically split into 5 countries/ regions.This led to rise of Hitler because he promised to reunify them all

The Holy Roman Empire comprised many countries and regions from southern Italy to Poland. In 1871, the Alsatian refused to be annexed and being Germans. They protested on the streets and the posters proclamations of the german annexation were covered with the word never. Alsace is the home of the French national anthem la Marseillaise written in Strasbourg on the de,and of the Mayor and the population. The Alsatians fought for the French Revolution against the Prussians and the Austrians with major Alsatians marshals like Kléber and Kellerman. If the Alsatians were Germans, they would have not enrolled and fought against the Germans. After the defeat of 1871 and for more than 30 years they only elected at the reichtag deputies that were claiming to be returned to France. Have a look the Saverne affair as well. And finally in 1918 they asked the French to return to Alsace. In all Alsatian cities a street bear the date of 18 November 1918, which celebrates the return of the French in Alsace. Instead of using mein kampf as a historical reference try to go to a school one day, it won't hurt you.

QUESTION: Can you pleaseeeeee talk about 19th-20th century Russia (Soviet Union) tomorrow in your final video before the test?! Also if you have time, give examples on POV because I'm still having trouble.

The war guilt was indeed not in the 14 points. But the return of Alsace Lorraine was specified in the proposal of Wilson (point number 8). So the Germans when they surrendered knew exactly that the restitution of the province was part of the deal.

Hi, I'm tired to read many ignorants posts about Alsace-Lorraine. Since 1648 we were French and never challenged our French citizenship. On the contrary, during the French Revolution we fought for the sake of France. Among the best marshals that attended the battles, Kléber and Kellerman were Alsatians and defeated the Prussians and Austrians with the Army of the Rhine, notably at the battle of Valmy. The French national Anthem "La Marseillaise" that is still used nowadays has been created and sung for the first time in Strasbourg. When the german attacked us in 1870 and nearly destroyed Strasbourg and Wissembourg, we refused to to be annexed. When Bismarck put posters in the cities stating that from now on, we will be german, the populations torn the signs and wrote never on walls. During the French session at the French assembly to ratify the Frankfurt treaty, the Alsatians and mosellans deputies refused to be Germans and voted against the peace treaty. From 1871 to 1900 and in rural areas up to the WWI all the deputies (called député protestataires) sent to the reichtag were refusing the annexation and during each sessions they were claiming to be reunited to France. The Germans never saw us as Germans, and refused to let us vote on international matters, and all the tensions were put into light during the Saverne Affair. During the WWI, we were sent mainly on the eastern front because the Germans feared that we would refuse to fight against de French. At the battle of Verdun, Alsatians fighters left the Germans army to inform the French about the attacks plans. At the battle of Mulhouse we welcome the French with great joy. When they had to withdraw, the Germans killed all the people that demonstrated to much joy for France. And in 1818, all Alsace welcomed the French troops, with still nowadays major streets in all Alsatians cities bear the name commemorating this event. I even don't mention the atrocities committed by the nazi against us. It is not because we were and in some parts still speaking a german dialect that we are german. But it took 250 years for them to realise it. And obviously, some KZread users still need to open a history book before making comments. And by the way, before 1871, Germany did not exit.

Most historians seem to say that germany was disproportionately responsible.

We can blame Woodrow Wilson (a racist/segregationist) for the eventual rise of Hitler, and WW2 as a result of that. He precipitated that entire mess with entry into WW1 and then the horrible idea that the 14 points were.

If anything Woodrow Wilson should not even be in the Top 5 if anything he at least tried to be lenient with Germany unlike France Britain wanted to be really strict
