In this video Heimler walks you through how World War I was carried on by the different nations that fought in it.
What people thought would be a short war ground on for four long years in part because of new technology being employed like machine guns, gas attacks, and defensive trenches.
World War I was also a total war, which is to say that all the nations who fought in it employed not only military resources to win the war but also domestic ones. Industries were converted to war production, food was rationed, and women went to work in the absence of men.
In order to keep this domestic war machine churning, governments turned to the widespread use of propaganda which demonized the enemy and often exaggerated the danger on the Homefront.
And finally, World War I was a truly global war. Battles were fought in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Because of this, imperial powers called upon their colonial subjects to come fight for them.
If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below and Heimler will answer them forthwithly.

here are the notes I took since I didn't see any for this video: Notes 7.3 Conducting World War Allies -Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and the U.S. (Russia and U.S. dropped out) Central -Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Ottoman Empire War Time Technology -machine guns, chemical warfare, trench warfare WW1 was a total war, women worked in factories since men were out Propaganda to keep people motivated U.S. tried to stay out of war but Germany sunk any ship in their territory Zimmerman Telegram got the U.S. into war, Germany sent a letter to Mexico asking them to start a war with the U.S., promised Mexico they would get back American lost land America intercepted the telegram then joined World War 1 and helped the allies Battles were fought in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and in the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. Japan entered the war on the side of the Allies because they were interested in claiming some colonial territory that belonged to the Germans in the Pacific islands. Africans, Indians, and Australians all found themselves fighting for Britain and West Africans and the Indochinese joined the ranks of the French. The Allies won and in 1918 they called for the Paris Peace Conference, at which they would draw up a treaty to end the war and in attendance were the Big Four: the United States, Britain, France, and Italy. Russia dropped out to have a communist revolution American president Woodrow Wilson argued that no one should be overly rewarded for victory and no one should be overly punished for defeat And so it was, that the Treaty of Versailles officially ended the war Austria-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires were broken up and new states were established in their place, states like Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Yugoslavia. the treaty required Germany to pay reparations for the damages done during the war, the war guilt clause placed the entire blame for the war on Germany

my notes: WW1 began Huly 28, 1914 Different nations band together w secret alliances Two sides Allies: Britian, France, Russia, Italy *later US join and Russia drop out to deal w communist revolution Central: Germany, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman empire Stretched for 4 years Due to new war tech Machine guns: not new but improved *capable of shooting up to 500 rounds a minute devastated the ranks of soldiers who found themselves within firing range first reason the war stretched on: both sides had the devastating capability Chemical warfare France developed tear gas which when fired at the enemy made their eyes water uncontrollably and also irritated their lungs Germany developed chlorine gas *far more devastating inhaled and mixed with the water in your lungs actually turned into hyydrochloric acid, destroying the lung tissue, and often causing an excruciating death new method: trench warfare Living and fighting in the trenches was one of the most defining features of combat for most soldiers of WW1 Rain water filled the trenches so it was very difficult to stay dry result of that, the flesh on the soldiers’ feet would decay and stink aside from the spread of disease and discomfort caused by the trenches, this reality led to a long and drawn out war When both sides are hunkered down facing each other, and when both sides have machine guns pointed at the other trench, there was very little progress that could be made If one side stormed the other, then that side would just mow them down until they retreated, this kind of trench warfare was seemingly endless stalemate WW1 was a total war all the countries that are involved leveraged everyone of their resources, both military and domestic, in order to win the war for example, factories were converted to churning out war materials Women went to work in those factories because the men were off fighting Food was rationed among the population Media was censored against those who sought to undermine the war effort whole population bore the burden of winning the war how was it that these governments kept the people energized in order to keep sacrificing for the greater good? they appealed to people’s fears and biases by publishing buttloads of propaganda: any form of media that seeks to influence people’s opinions based on exaggeration and misinformation ppl during that time saw posters and articles which depicted the enemy as monsters and in some cases exaggerated the danger which threatened the home population U.S. history, you know that the Americans had a long-standing policy of isolationism from European conflicts few events that made it impossible for the United States to remain uninvolved First was the German policy of unrestricted submarine warfare German U-boats made it their policy to sink any ship that came within their territory *sunk both military ships and civilian ships Germans sank a passenger ship called the Lusitania which ended up killing over a hundred U.S. citizens, that got the fires of revenge stoked against the Germans U.S. still did not enter the war Zimmermann Telegram that got the U.S. finally involved in the war note sent from the German government to the Mexican government essentially inviting Mexico to start a war with the United States Germany could see that they were tempting the U.S. to enter the war against them, also see that for the U.S. to enter the war on the side of the Allies would almost surely mean German defeat if the Americans were embroiled in a war in Mexico, then maybe they couldn’t get involved in the war in Europe Germans promised the Mexicans that they would help them get back some of the territory that they lost to America in the Mexican-American War German perspective, this seems like a decent strategy Americans intercepted that telegram and that was the straw that broke the camel’s back United States entered WW1 bc of US fantastic industrial capacity and because their homeland had been relatively untouched by the war, they helped turn the tide of the war for the Allies United States was really the only glaring omission from the list of folks who were fighting this war global war Battles were fought in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East fought in the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean one of the main reasons why the scope of this thing was so large is because of the four centuries of colonial activity that preceded it competitions for colonial holdings caused bitter rivalries between these colonial powers, and that was a main cause of the war desire for colonial holdings also kept the war going For example, Japan entered the war on the side of the Allies because they were interested in claiming some colonial territory that belonged to the Germans in the Pacific islands colonial nations fighting this war padded their ranks with colonial soldiers Parent countries called up troops from their colonial holdings all over the world For example, Africans, and Indians, and Australians all found themselves fighting for Britain West Africans and the Indochinese joined the ranks of the French many of these colonial soldiers fought for their imperial country gladly because in many cases the imperial countries promised that such a service would earn them freedom and self-rule Allies won 1918 they called for the Paris Peace Conference, at which they would draw up a treaty to end the war In attendance were the Big Four: the United States, Britain, France, and Italy Russia was not invited They actually dropped out of the war about halfway through to have themselves a communist revolution Bolsheviks were in power in Russia and they were refusing to honor their debts to the Allied powers, the Allies, in turn refused to recognize the legitimacy of the Bolshevik government at the peace conference, there was profound ideological division between how peace would be established American president Woodrow Wilson argued that no one should be overly rewarded for victory and no one should be overly punished for defeat other hand, French Prime Minister Georges Clemenceau disagreed. bc France and the rest of the Allies had suffered greatly in the war, he believed the losing powers, especially Germany, should be punished desire for retribution that won the day Treaty of Versailles officially ended the war One important provision was that the Austria-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires were broken up and new states were established in their place, states like Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Yugoslavia provisions for punishment contained in the treaty treaty required Germans to pay reparations for the damages done during the war amount to billions of dollars owed to other countries war guilt clause placed the entire blame for the war on Germany

So we are all born with sin, but in order to get to HEAVEN we would have to be sinless, bc HEAVEN is a place w/o sin. This was not possible, but through HIS ONE AND ONLY SON JESUS CHRSIT, (GOD in the flesh) HE lived a perfect sinless life, and died the death we deserved as sinners, being crucified and whipped and tortured and suffocating to death. So HE could repay our debt of sin, thus making us able to go to HEAVEN. You see GOD loves us so much that not only did HE do all that for us, but HE made it free, GOD made is so that all we had to do to accept this free gift was to but our FAITH AND TRUST in JESUS, in what HE did for us. Thats it, that's all we needed to do. And in doing so HE will use us, in order to spread HIS love to others, to be vessels of HIS grace. I am just a mere peasant, but even though I am a peasant, GOD honors me like HIS child. HIS love for us is not comprehendible. All HE asks is that you love HIM as HE as loves you first. GOD BLESS.

@7:35 you state that Austria-Hungary and Ottoman empire were broken up and new states emerged like Finland. That is again. False. Finland declared independence from RUSSIA 6.12.1917. Finland and Estonia were not installed in place of austria-hungary or ottoman empire.

You're correct. I didn't mean to imply that Findland's independence was a result of the breakup of the Ottoman Empire. I meant that Finland was an example of a new state being established as a result of WWI.

@@rohankaushal7316 Well doesnt sound like it. If he knows the stuff he should articulate him self clearly. It might be really misleading for students to hear that Finland or Estonia were established from the remnants of Austria-Hungary when in fact they both gained independence from the Russian Empire / Russian SFSR. There wouldnt be any problem if this was a channel witch just talks about history but this is not. This is a channel aimed at STUDENTS and the purpose is to TEACH. Thats why i am nitpicking at the details. sorry for bad english
