Migrant hotels scandal: Brexit voters fury with Tories over immigration

More than 40,000 people have entered the UK via small boats this year, most housed in hotels across the country. Both legal and illegal immigration is at record highs and after repeated promises to bring numbers down, the Conservatives are under increasing political pressure to act. The Telegraph’s Steven Edginton travels to various migrant hotels to investigate one of the most critical issues facing Britain.

I can speak from experience now unfortunately around this whole mess. I had to leave my previous property which I was renting. Last year both myself and my father caught COVID-19 and in the case of my father he was admitted into hospital. He survived and then just before Christmas a couple of weeks later we both caught influenza. He was admitted back into hospital due to his breathing after he wrote his car off when he passed out at the wheel. Thankfully I didn't need to go into the hospital although it came quite close at times. I left my property and at the same time my father had to leave his. I've worked my whole life as a mechanic/technician but due to COVID-19 I have breathing issues and heart problems which are likely to last a long time so I am unable to work at this time. I was homeless and spoke to the council and was told my situation wasn't serious enough for assistance with housing so I had to sleep in my car. Migrants are literally turning up and being provided housing and free meals and it is sickening. They've paid nothing and given nothing to this country and in effect take the place which I think I have earned by working my whole life and trying to give to this country. I honestly just get the sense that this country is lost. There is no reason to have aspirations. I could work my whole life and I'd still only be able to afford to rent a property and be at the mercy of a private landlord. The councils don't care and make no effort and the entire sense of community I used to believe in has been lost in this country. I think the lucky ones got the hell out in the 50s and 60s and went to Australia, New Zealand and Canada. I know they have problems but their standards of living are far better and they keep a sense of country and community. I feel abandoned and disposable and those I trusted have let me down in favour of a foreigner. That hurts.

More than 600 known terrorists have been caught so far at our borders. Of those 2 million undocumented people, I wonder how many are on the terror watch list or a part of the human trafficking network.

Imagine as an Irish person who is unemployed and really wanted to work… why can’t the government just create lovely jobs for them so they have somewhere to go and socialise and get paid a little for doing that? Why do these projects only happen when it’s Ukrainians who aren’t European either. Double standards and unfair advantage and benefits is given to the Ukrainians. A person from Africa or countries that are in turmoil due to politics or social issues is different than Ukraine. Ukrainians were given accommodation, jobs (like I said) and money. Asylum seekers are kept in hotel and only way of familiarising themselves in a country that doesn’t oppress like their own country (where they’ve only known) is to go for a walk down the road while ensuring they are home are certain times isn’t a nice time. And don’t forget our whole immigration situation in Ireland is a joke that needs to redefined so that Irish ppl aren’t suffering needlessly why immigrants enjoy better benefits. This would also make it possible to actually deport illegal immigrants without endless appeals, all at the expense of the hard pressed British taxpayer.

@Tracy Hi Tracy. When the government decided to level up the men’s and women’s pension age in the U.K. the first age bracket women to be affected weren’t informed with enough time to make any arrangements to financially compensate the fact that they would no longer receive a pension at 60. The term waspi is Women Against State Pension Increase. We didn’t argue that men and women should be different, but that we weren’t given time to plan. My own circumstance is I retired from work with Ill health and get a works pension. I don’t receive benefits. I am 64 so have to wait a year and a half for my state pension on top of the four years I’ve already waited. This has impacted my husband and my finances greatly. My husband actually stayed at work past retirement age to help us financially. The stories of some of the ladies who were affected by this change were truly devastating. The ombudsman found in the ladies favour, that the ladies who were first affected were not given enough warning. The government have failed to implement any type of reimbursement for the group. As I said previously, they would rather give the money to anyone else other than U.K. citizens.

These migrants are treated better than British people, people who have paid tax and national insurance etc. I work 60+ hours a week to afford my private rent. I was refused social housing because they deemed me able to afford to rent private. 3 square meals a day they get. I have one. Once I pay my rent council tax utilities etc I’m left with £200 per month to feed and clothe me. And dentists or doctors well I’ve had to pull 2 teeth out lately because I had an abscess and the nhs dentist said the first appointment they can offer was 6 months away. This provision of hotel accommodation is completely unsustainable at GBP 7 - 8 million a day, given that this is taxpayers' money that should be spent on British citizens. The Tories are unable to provide any concrete solutions so we need to return to the smaller parties like the SDP and Reform to put an end to this situation.

But liberals need to feel good, globalists need unstable countries for cheap labour and resources, tories want cheap labour for their rich donors.
