The Sham Marriage Racket (Immigration Law Documentary) | Real Stories

Entering the dark underworld of the sham marriage racket
Filming undercover, and with exclusive access to a busy register office, Ranvir Singh investigates sham marriages. We will be looking at the current challenges and enforcement measures associated with sham marriages, including the impact of recent changes to the law. As well as investigating those involved in facilitating and organising sham marriages, we will discuss efforts being made by government, register offices and other organisations to combat sham marriages as part of a wide-ranging piece examining the current scale of the issue in the UK.
The programme will feature interviews with experts and observational filming at one of the UK’s busiest register office. It will also feature covertly filmed footage of marriage fixers and others involved in facilitating sham weddings; forging fake passports; selling vulnerable women and making offering to make fraudulent applications to the Home Office.
Our evidence shows that, despite the Government’s promised crackdown, it appears to be business as usual with the racketeers making millions at our expense.

They've actually been turning over investigative work to homeland security and border patrol and many have been caught and many others deported or imprisoned. It does help to have all the information and evidence gathered for the case.

Pakistani's, Bangladeshi's and Indian's in the UK have been involved in sham marriages and have used 'Car Sales' as fronts for all sorts of criminal activities for the past 40-years. And during these 40-years, hardly anything has ever been done about it! The same applies to Planning Permission (for building extensions & development) whether private or commercial... they did whatever they wanted and almost always got away with it. BTW, the investigative team should have provided all their information to the Police BEFORE they broadcast this program, not afterwards... as 'Malik' will have moved all the poor trafficked girls to another location!!!

Increasingly so in various parts of America. Even w/o sham marriages; try to file complaint w/ Health Dept because groups of illegals are being housed in sheds & garages, sans sanitary facilities; urinating & defecating visible from the street as you drive by; or selling food w/o licenses or sanitary conditions... competing w/ legitimate licensed, tax paying business & residents.

Also, I don’t understand how dumb immigration services are when it comes to sham marriages? ask for evidence- pics, photographs, chats, friends, mutual friends, common experiences, memories, parents, siblings, body language. At one point they will break- it’s as simple as that. Build up your team, put in resources, it’ll take more than a 5 min interview, but it’s absolutely not difficult to catch these horrible people.

Absolutely disgraceful! Documentaries like these should be conducted WITH the correct authorities at the time of production where criminals can be taken into custody at the scene and intelligence gathered then and there. Exposing them like this and showing the relevant agencies after the fact, just drives scum like this underground. The agency's comment about their laws "disrupting" illegal scams like this is pathetic. It needs STOP scams, not disrupt. And the justice/ court system need to back them up and throw severe jail terms at them!

The way this can all be stopped is for couples to prove they have a long term relationship and a long engagement. Most people who meet and fall in love whether on a dating site or in their social life do not go rushing into marriage within weeks or months. In the olden days like during my grandmothers time, couples were typically engaged for 2 years before they married and they got to know each others families and form bonds with them long before the marriage. They need to make it a 2 year rule. It might even work for marriage in general, if people were required to have a 2 year waiting period and undergo couples counseling during that time. They should be required to refrain from having children during this time too. No unwanted neglected children and many baby daddies and many baby mommas......

a sham marriage must be punished with prison and bif fines.. Mostly it is only the foreign person who is using the person from the country. there must be a fine of minimum 20 000 euro or dollar and 3-4 years prison and then expelled. Because of many sham marriages the immigration service thinks that many marriages are sham marriages and that makes it difficult for the honest couples. They don't believe it. And western women better never start a relationship with an African man or a man from the Middle East, it is mostly for the papers.
