My story is the same as Banaz, but I managed to escape at 17 before my family could hurt me. I wish I was living abroad, but my life was so hard in the Middle East trying to run away and survive on my own. I had no one to help and absolutely no support for years. It took me more than 10 years to be able to live a normal life and get over all the abuse and the beatings I went through. Even talking about what I went through was so painful. I know running away was not easy, but now I know it was the best disicion and I saved my life. I could've been dead too, but I'm alive and happy now, and want to tell my story to all the women who go through this so they run away before it's too late. RIP Banaz 😔

Absolutely disgusting isn't it? My heart ached for banaz, so beautiful. I can comprehend it either, the world has drastically changed & with it humanity aswell. There's needs to be more awareness made for the women stuck in a situation as this. So that they'll feel safe when seeking safety. I know there's already organisations out there working to raise awareness but if they could somehow find a way to advertise more in places women go alit ,like public bathrooms. As she was giving her statement, that female cop just sat there, no questions asked...and then just tells her to call them again if her life is in danger. How daft can she be?! And she switches off the room light even before Banaz exited the room. Shows the utmost disrespect for this poor girl. And another female cop even contemplated bringing charges on her for being drunk and making up stories. How sad! This girl had nowhere to turn.

This family was a refugee from an abusive regime. Went to UK for a better life but also brought their abusive mentality. This is disgusting.

Families in the west (with the exception of some recent immigrants from the East) do not kill their daughters if they disagree with their choices. This was so disgusting how NO BODY did anything. She was crying out for help and no one helped her at all. Its so infuriated cause it happens to every women, we are constantly dismissed and this is the worst case scenario, she explained it many times and they let her down.

This poor girl, she is so clearly traumatized by the abuse in her marriage. Her parents betrayed their beautiful daughter in the most profound way possible. Banaz you deserved so much better in this life. I am sorry for what you suffered. May you rest in peace. May all those who brought suffering on you and ruthlessly betrayed you, meet the harshest justice of this life & the next.

This story is so sad. Just read that Rahmat Sulemani hanged himself 10 years after Banaz’s cruel death. The man was devastated and never found love again. He said that there was “no life for him” after her death, that Banaz was “his present, his future, his hope.” Rahmat had spent the rest of his years under witness protection. My heart breaks for Banaz and Rahmat. What this family did to Banaz is unspeakable. She was surrounded by the absolute worst kind of people and the criminal justice system failed her.

This young woman has my greatest respect. At 17, I was also in a violently abusive relationship as a young girl. I struggle with self loathing and addiction despite having a wonderfully compassionate husband who I love more than life. He deserves so much better. It's hard to make peace within myself and I don't know why. God bless her sister❤.

And then she saw her family again despite her own safety knowing they were murderous. The cops failed her for sure because they took so long to help her, I acknowledge that but they didnt continue the case based on her order so they are not to blame for her death. You can call me whatever but honor killing occurs largely in the middle east and so does beheading. The women are treated like second class citizens and are unfairly treated. A woman cant even get a divorce in some of those countries! The husband can beat her, rape her, etc. And you denying the obvious is why they get away with it.

Or maybe it was a self righteous police officer who felt that this community wasn't theirs so why should they even get involved. We really don't and won't know until we know all the facts and it wasn't revealed who that police officer was. Regardless that and other officers assisted in her murder because of their failure to investigate and do their job. She was practically telling them over and over that she was going to be killed!!!!

Her sister herself might have been called all kinds of things in her own community but did the right thing by not fearing what others say or think when she testified against her family. It takes courage to stand up for something that is wrong and sometimes even those who are paid to protect society are weak, and unfortunately the poor girl was raped, beatened, and tortured to death! So, so sad!

Gabriela Chavez I strongly doubt they would have been accused of racism for helping her. The only time that’s considered a variable is during legislation, not on a case by case basis. In fact, this case would probably not have been known to the public at all if they’d protected her. The reason it’s a conversation is because they failed.

What really pisses me off about this is that the mother ( who conspired with the father ) wasn’t sent to prison !!! And I’d go even further in saying that all the police who ignored her should have been not just fired but punished !!

Why wasn't her mother charged? Her mother knew exactly what was going to happen when she left the home with her husband.

I know... would have helped create her sense of Learned Helplessness. ...Her sister got away after the attempt on her life. ...Banaz believed she could not get away. And I wonder if that was because she was abused so badly in the arranged marriage she had; and that it broke her spirit. What a pity she did not run away and go into hiding like her sister. And even somehow got into contact with her. Maybe her, her sister and her boyfriend could have all changed their names and moved to New Zealand or something. ...Poor Banaz, I felt such deep sorrow for her. I hope that her Soul is at peace and that she and her boyfriend are together (supposedly he died) and that she finds joy, healing and happiness. Hope her and her boyfriend have a new life together where they have a family and live happily ever after.💞

Regardless of the evil culture of the males in the family, she deserved to be protected and she displayed enough signs for them to act. Even for the domestic violence of her ex husband on her, this alone should have warranted a thorough investigation and she should have been placed in a woman’s shelter and hidden away. They did not do this. Did you even watch the full video? They did not care, starting from the very first female police officer/investigator. She clearly asked what they (police) could do for her and the officer said “if you are scared you must come to us”. She was right there, scared and asking for help. They failed her.

Good on you Caroline for getting justice for Banaz. If only Banaz had seen you when she was alive.

It's a tragedy how she was mistreated by her own flesh and blood. Such pyscopaths.

The justice system failed her. It's heartbreaking.

"A landslide of mistakes" understatement of the year - that was negligence and that negligence resulted in her death! If that she was by age a child, parents would be charged with criminal negligence causing death. Where is the accountability for those authorities who knew and yet did nothing?! All those officers who did nothing should have been charged too. Her blood is on their hands too! What an utter disgrace! RIP Banaz, I am so sorry you were betrayed by those closest to you and let down by the justice system who did nothing to save you from such a despicable act.

Despicable...any culture or faith that supports this kind of behavior/mentality is not civilized.

The older daughter said when the brother tried to murder her - she was told to carry a suitcase. Banaz was also told to carry a suitcase into the house on the first murder attempt. Unreal how they were given a suitcase that basically is your coffin. Disgusting and sick.

What confuses me is why wasn’t any of them charged with rape, she was raped for 2 hours before they killed her and not one charge on any of them 😡😡

Don't ask me why as I am not the girl in this video, but then anyone would start to question why ? Why not expose all of them and ask the police or the proper authorities to do an investigation ? And if the location is correct. Iran I believe it was, what laws do Iran have that would prohibit an investigation from taking place ? And what anyone can and ought to draw from this case, is that are forced marriages a thing in that region of the world ? Because I find that to be as bizzare as the sacrifices I was reading of in the Holy Bible. And essentially what made her such a target ? What position or status or authority in that society did she hold ?
