Sir, I am very impressed by your comments, especially the one about their extraordinary ability to produce perfectly balanced, clean sounds with lots of instruments in a live setting. Individually, these musicians have been probably the most accomplished masters of their own instruments in Italy - i.e., in the world - for decades. As to "comedy music", IMHO they actually tackle very complex issues with a light heart, an insouciant attitude and a clear, rational sense of the world's general insanity. It is "comedy", sure, but it is so much more. And the music... the music is sublime.

Elio e le storie tese are one of the best band in Italy, unfortunately this is their last concert. Speaking of serious songs, to me, their re almost all serious... treat themes like homosexuality, sexuality, abort, gender equality in comic style and breaking stereotypes. They were treating taboo themes since the start, in a way no one did, at least in italy. I'll love EELST forever

Frank Zappa often did it too (for ex. In "The Poodle Lecture).

Man... I'm Italian. You spoke about one of most spectacular Italian live band!. Do you want to listen some "serious" Elio's song? Great... Sometimes they play covers at the beginning of live show... Doors, Pink Floyd... But they have also some original song... Please try to listen "Plafone" or "Cani e padroni di cani"... They move easily from jazz to salsa, from ballad to heavy metal,. There's also an album where Elio's play some their famous song in English... But the funny thing is that they translate the original Italian score "word by word"... Try "John Holmes English version"... I am a sound engineer.. long time ago I meet this guys. Speaking about Elio's live show, there are 3 main things to say. First this guys are very talented but they play live for have fun. Second their live shows are not a "live music concert". Their lives are music mixed with theater, where the audience play with the band. Third... During live shows they have a great sound engineer... An old man called Foffo Bianchi. Old school.... Great sound.

They've played with James Taylor and Carlos Santana! Their inspiration is Frank Zappa. This is the song with James Taylor kzread.info/dash/bejne/oX58r5qkYcLRn9I.html This is a piece of the performance with Carlos Santana kzread.info/dash/bejne/e3unxLqxj8vFkbQ.html

The only serious song is in their last album. The song is titled "Il circo discutibile" (the debatable circus) and is about anxiety and depression.

In my opinion, their lyrics may seem demential and funny at first listening. I would not use demential (yes, sometimes they are!) to describe their lyrics. Actually, they are always funny and hilarious in a subtle and clever way. At least 70% of their songs talk about social issues like Civil Rights, Racial Discrimination, Gender or Childhood issues, and so forth, all dressed in a funny costume. Then, add they are great musicians, too = A nuclear bomb.

Hey Dude! Elio e le storie tese is the best band in italy! No chances for the others! They are stunning musicians and they can play a lot of rythms and styles. Really, you have to study them!

The real problem is to put 4/5 songs with 3 different rhythm together and create something that works. James Taylor loves them and I think that from somewhere in the sky Frank Zappa is smiling
