Maynard James Keenan: The Art of Work Pt. 1 (Tool, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, Caduceus Cellars)
Музыка
WATCH THE FULL SERIES HERE: bit.ly/2HgpaVv
Tucked in the Black Hills of Yavapai County, Arizona, Jerome has long attracted intrepid characters. In the late 1800s, prospectors descended on the historic town looking to capitalize on its rich copper mines. Over a hundred years later, a different type of pioneer arrived: Maynard James Keenan. The Tool, Puscifer and A Perfect Circle frontman has carved out a uniquely anti-rock-star life in this rugged terrain, filled with winemaking, farming and community building. For two days this past July, Keenan extended a very special invitation to Revolver to join him during this summer's grape harvest. In Episode 1 of our multi-part series, he reveals how his work in Jerome helps create the friction that ignites his creativity.

How does this guy have enough time to work with three bands, farm and make wine, run restaurants , own shops, brazilian jiu - jitsu, live a normal life, be successful in everything. This is by far one of the most intelligent people i've ever seen

Maynard is a modern day renaissance man no doubt. He most assuredly is maxing out his human potential. Very few people are able to harness their abilities like this man has, he’s wise far beyond his years.
I'm 54 and once you stop you die. I've seen many times throughout my life. Stay busy at what ever you like to do and always keep searching for serenity. Maynard is the epitome of that philosophy. Leo Perez, I got an autograph from Maynard once. It looks like the McDonald's M. He is an asshole to his fans, it took me a while to understand that he has to be. I saw tool last summer, while the other three where bowing and saying thank you to the fans, he just ran off stage. No wave or anything. But, the whole thing is, the other three don't get as much attention as he does. They had spotlights on them pretty much the whole show. He was never once spotlighted. Despite that, I was 20 when I first learned of Maynard and was already heading in these multiple directions that I am now, so it's not as though I'm a copy cat. Contemplating the possibility of me ego seeking to identify with "someone above the ground"lol has been a topic to some degree. I'm good with it now for the time being. I do lots of stuff that has nothing to do with Wine or Music or Arizona. I would like to and plan to live in Arizona for more than a few reasons though.

I saw his kids with him (and the whole band) on tour, and his wife runs the shop(s) in Jerome. We know he likes his privacy regarding his family, but it seems he involves them, and it's all jam packed with life lessons. Worse things to be than a workaholic in his case?

Two thoughts... At the beginning of the movie "The Descendants" with George Clooney, there is a quote - "Leave your kids enough money so that they can do something, but not so much that they can do nothing." I find that idea appropriate for this and, the word I think Maynard is looking for is "stewardship." What we leave for those that come after us is more important than what we achieve for ourselves.

wysiwygsd great quote, and I agree about stewardship. The individualism of American culture is beautiful in many ways but I think that there are key pieces of good and moral lives that we’ve lost due to this. I think it’s possible to still be unusually individualistic and get some of that back. The way we treat our elders, the lack of focus on what we leave our kids, these things need to improve. I think we can do that without suffocating collectivism.

Exactly, it's an amazing thing to see and the whole thing doesn't just apply to only rockstars. Every day people can choose that path, I know I've chosen it. Life gets pretty dark, and I've only just started to fix my fucked up past, but that's what it's all about. It all comes down to the choices we make, and for some the refusal to see the light. I agree with you about all this new bullshit too, it's all comfort music. People choose the path of least resistance these days, we want everything easy and without suffering. They fail to realize that to grow you must suffer, there's no alternative. At the end of the day we're all still here fighting as warriors, I wish you the best!

You are the sum of everything you have done and said right up to this moment. Maynard, you sum it up for me. From the first moment someone handed me an old CD and said, "here, you like that angry music, I think you will like this." And it shook my very soul. I looked around to see who has been listening to my private thoughts. TOOL, the "thinking" man's metal. Thank you.

After loving and following his music since the early 90s I'd never imagined he'd be the man he is today. And greatful for his physical work and he's still put out great music
Who wouldve thought when those first sounds of tool hit the main streem air waves that almost 30 years later he would still be this creative down to earth (in his own way) genius
How Maynard puts things in perspective about life makes me really think.I appreciate his art hope he keeps excelling in the way he has evolved throughout the years.
i really know nothing except a few songs, but nothing about the man.....but my most intimate love is the sight of rain in the desert, as this video starts I can already tell my conciousness vibrato is in tune with this amazing artist. -From Texas
Some words that convey how much of a fan I am, while also showing everyone how I "get it".

Most of humankind's best knowledge is. Congratulations on your personal growth ! Spread the knowledge

Maynard is a true HERO!!!!!
One of the most inspiring, innovative, uncompromising and astronomically talented creative minds of modern times. Everything he does is art, just as art is everything. An individual so clearly and intently in tune with the nature of the universe and with the nature of his own being that he’s probably as enlightened as we can hope to be in this age. The fact that knowing he would be rolling his eyes and feeling irritated by this comment is testament to that.

Rather hard to find a celebrity that is aptly described as well rounded. Refreshing actually.
Maynard is a great example of what Abraham Maslow described as a self actualized being.
Always knew this about Maynard, many don't know he graduated top of his class at West point and is an expert Marksman. Tool has always been my favorite band since I first heard them back when they started I'm 53 now and still listen to at least one tool song everyday
Finding the art in the labor of making it has to be one of the most satisfying experience one can have.
This man is a fucking genius 🙌 We love you Maynard ❤️
I dont know if you read comments on here mr. Keenan. I appreciate you. Your music. I think what you're doing is way cool man. You're insight on life is sharp. Not everyone figures out how to tap into that like you do. Cool video man. Hope to see more. And btw. Pucifer.... man you nailed it. You all do great! Thanx man.
Thanks Maynard. It’s always about resonating with your people. You do your stuff and I’ll do mine. We’ll have the same result. It’s really refreshing to know that I never walk alone, so thank you.
Maynard's a genius I do listen to him every day
I’m so glad that I found Tools music and they have been all I pretty much listen to lately. Now listening to Maynard I understand why their music is so entrancing. I can’t drink alcohol so wine is out of the question but growing vegetables isn’t. It almost makes me want to start or work on a farm. We need more smaller sustainable farms to purify ourselves. I would have thought he was some pretentious douce if I heard this when I was younger probably out of some sort of jealousy now I can appreciate his mind as well as his music. I fall down theses rabbit holes now I’m stuck in the tool Maynard rabbit hole. Let’s see what I can gleen. My other favorite musician rabbit holes have been Iggy Pop, Serj Tankian and Lou Reed. Those we’re my favorites. Now with all the information we can receive it’s actually the one good part of being able to have access to people and ideas the Internet revolution has brought to us. There are tons of negatives as well I’m gonna stop here at the positives.

Mick Isaacs you want to purify yourself read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John bye the end of that you’ll get The Who the why and the how then get dunked and you will be clean for the first time and be amazed at what that feels like. It’s something to have a cleaned soul, unlike anything else.

A serj rabbit hole?
Hearing them I was holy shit, reading about him , and learning his life and mine was one n the same, i experienced it in 1971, I think his was n 1976, the connection through music, it's a beautiful thing, being cut from the same cloth knowing your not alone ,
Your story inspires me. I appreciate, and am proud of you. I don’t know you, but you’ve put so much of yourself out into this world it feels like I do in a way. I can identify with things you’ve talked about. I love everything you do. ☺️ Thank you for sharing so much of yourself with the rest of us. It means a lot to so many.
Well he is an artist, very productive and seems very happy in what he does and where he lives.he is in a good place for himself, which is a good thing.as far as mother nature is concerned, she is funny.she just wants people to take care of her and respect her.thanks👍🌟

I straight up love Maynard!! Just a great guy all around. I would love to come to his vineyard and see what all he has done with the Merkin, and just chill with him would be so AWESOME!! WE ❤YOU MJK!!! You have helped me so much with your music in so many ways that I cannot even begin to describe it. THANK YOU BROTHER!!!
You are so right! Thank you for actually saying and living the struggle!!!
Such a humble and wise man.
It would be amazing...IF Farmers were willing...could open up their Homesteads(not your private home area...but the farming erea...etc)where children/teenagers can "intern" during school breaks...in the area/state of Arizona...so this idea can grow....spreading throughout the states. Could YOU imagine IF out of 100 students...at least 20 students who've completed such a Homestead program....go on...to head their own Homesteads(of all sizes). Great videos MJJ!!

Come to Kansas. I'm sure you could find a farmer that would let you "intern" on his hay truck. 🤣

I did something like that when I was young, idk if people still do it. In some places in Spain, young students did help their families/seek a job during the harvest at the end of summer.

@@LivingInkWell @Nic Francis WWOOF is Worldwide Opportunities for Organic Farmers. It's an international farm-stay program that connects farmers with those who wish to learn. I believe the website is wwoof.net. I did month-long stay on a Greek island, helping them with their olive harvest and other things. Really, it was an incredible experience.
So good to hear an artist in the 21st century bring up the concept of being an active link in the chain between the past and future. While I have no doubt that Maynard has a good understanding of the problems this world faces, he is living as if what he does in the present will have a positive impact on the future regardless how bad that future might be. Such a breath of fresh air in a world that has become so focused on an ever present now and nothing else. Leave a legacy, a positive one.
Maynard has always been a stranger I loved and after seeing this he is now a familiar person that I love.
