He's not wrong, though. One of the thing I loved most about APC's first album was how well they used that audio equivalent to negative space in their music. It never occurred to me that Tool did something similar until after that album, but it stood out more after listening to that specific album. It sounds awfully close to a "back in my day" comment to me, but I also know exactly what he's talking about. And it's one of my favorite parts of all his bands.

He is a man who makes his own decisions based on his reasoning, as it was more free people like him, (his free to think and achieve mindset), who did build free enterprise that got mankind out of poverty. Brilliant? He does well for a art school graduate, but I bet he enjoys more freedom producing wine. There is no more free Einstein, Tesla or Edison,---and the reason why we think a good man like Jim is brilliant, is because we have been taught to follow, not think. No offense to Jim. He is living a very good life,---because he thinks and is still semi free to prosper from his own reasoning in what is left of our free society. Our schools call all this liberty and free enterprise decline "progress". I don't. I know we can all do better with a brain in our heads and free enterprise in our hands, and Jim is a example of that truth.

Maynard describes his process so eloquently, which really helps me understand where he’s coming from. I loved the analogy of him being the “interior decorator” on the music. He puts those finishing touches on the musical foundation. He and I are the same age, and we had many of the same musical influences. He’s mentioned being influenced by artists like Siouxsie and the Banshees for his lyrics and vocals. I’ve been listening to them a lot lately, and definitely see how their writing style influenced him. Siouxsie was a major influence on me as a vocalist in the 80’s, so I feel a certain kinship with him on that. I’m a late comer as a fan of Tool, having only really found their music in maybe the last 10 years. I personally feel they will leave a massive imprint on music that will last for many, many decades.

Maynard has such a cool set of music tastes, it always makes me feel wild how my predisposed idea of celebrities is just... idolization. Cool to be able to explore people like Maynard in any sort of depth! Makes me feel a lot less "oh man I'm just the little guy" and sure, at the end of the day I am the little guy. However, stuff like this humanizes people we look up to and see as - basically - gods.

I'm envious of his personal/professional relationship with Trent Reznor. I've been patiently respecting Trent's process for six years. The wait on a new NIN album has been agitating. I couldn't imagine both of their geniuses collaborating. Let alone just listening to them both have a conversation about music & their influences together. Reznor has aided so many other musicians to perfect their sound. He put that clown shoe Manson in business. All while pumping out his own beautifully constructed brand of esoteric occultic magick sounds. Maynard & Trent know just how to bewitch the masses with finely tuned sorcery.

IDK about that. I'm a NIN fan from days gone but I haven't seen any good (or true NIN) material since Year Zero and it's remix album. And that was about 2007! And really With Teeth was the last true NIN album lets be honest. I hope that oscar wasn't a trap and he's not/now corrupted or limited to what he can do. Might explain it? I know artists often don't want to repeat what they've already done.. but Fuck!

@@ryanj.wheeler3295 I found "add violence" from 2017 to be the last decent project. "Bad witch" grew on me in that way NIN tends to over continued listening. The slip and Hesitation Marks are also full of gems. I agree with you on the brilliance of Year Zero & With Teeth. Those are superior albums to what came after. I'm more than impatient with Trent. He's constantly preoccupied with some very uninteresting movie score or a mediocre collaboration. The lackluster projects are getting to be very obnoxious. He has wasted his time with Atticus furthering a lame pop star career with Halsey. They make all these lame instrumental tracks and relish in all these dumb accolades for movie scores. I'm rendered sick of Trenty Boys shitty Danny Elfman side projects etc. I've lost hope nearly. All the socially engineered hiveminded fans praise all this nonsense new material he pumps out. I can't stand how these annoying so called fans defend all this shit material he and Atticus put out. I swear everyone is under retarded brain dead hypnosis. This illusionary world is full of spiritless non playable characters or clueless empty organic portal vessels. Just robot zombie drones constantly reading prewritten dialogue from a generic holographic script. So many lame human simulacrum/simulations or predictable archetypes with zero freewill being puppeted by the puppet master puppeteers. This so called fan base is none the wiser in this collective mind controlled consciousness. Everyone has mind control technology in their mutated DNA. It works in conjunction with specific frequencies/vibrations. Our boy Trent needs to put out more cryptic music about these esoteric occultic mysteries. As he has done in the past. He's got so much hidden in his music.

I think the main reason why it takes so long for Tool to let out music is the complexity that they are after. As it is with any other art that you can actually call art. Its ready when its ready! I think thats what we are missing these days. Its like a production line pumping out garbage... fast out the door... get paid... another one... get paid. This phenomenon can be observed in pretty much any cathegory under the thumb of corporations and investors!
