INFO: Maynard James Keenan is first of all known for being the leas singer and songwriterof Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. But he’s also a great example of a modern day renaissance man. He’s a rock star, record producer, actor, author and winemaker. The guy even built his own gym to practice jus jitsu and he’s also a self-proclaimed doomsday prepper As of now he lives a reclusive life in Arizona. But who is he, really?

@@musicisme456 it's funny bc I was just discussing this with my husband. He said the same thing. Tool just wouldn't be tool without Danny.hes irreplaceable. & I agree on some level but would argue that the same could be said about any of them. Imagine Tool without Maynard. Or Adam. I was thinking that the only 1 who might be replaced is Justin since they did have a different base player on their first 2 albums.but he pointed out that they sounded very different.& that's true! Not saying they sounded bad but not as good as the later albums(imo).something about the way he plays just sounds so different & unique. Sorry this is so long. :)

I saw somewhere that he has an English teacher in his fam. Before, I just kinda imagined him to go to s.clubs, rarely & not get any dances. But just pay for the females to talk to him about random things, or life. While he sipped on wine. Maybe when it wasn't busy. Bc him as a rockstar= quirky, doesn't want to be seen. Him in a club= kinda flashy, but still not exactly typical, still might not enjoy crowds. Just likes to throw ppl off their norms/bubbles, I guess. Just for his own entertainment. 🤷 Seems like some sh. He would do. Not that I know him. But he does say/ sing about some "out there sh." But now, I just imagine him out in the country, somewhere. Sitting on a tractor, like he's really gonna do something, but just sitting in some shaded barn. W/ miles & miles of nothing but grass/land surrounding his house. Some wine worker goes by & he screams sh., Like "damnit, didn't I tell you to go crush more grapes😤?" Feeling accomplished for the day. Scrolls through his social medias for comments. Attempts to read the first couple of things that are mainly insults, & he just sits there thinking about grammar. Loses patience easily, has a short attention span, scrolls fastly through sh., Only skimming wever it lands on. And he says sh like "you's stoopit." Scroll fast, "you's stoopit." Repeat. Every once in awhile, trolling. But under some different account. Sits for about 15 mins - to an HR & is like," welp, time to hit the gym/karate place now." Gets off tractor. 😁 That's what I think he does in his free time. I'm pretty sure of it.

Once you actually listen to the lyrics, it can be very beautiful, especially Maynard's lyrics, talking about trying to find yourself. I remember seeing A Perfect Circle as a teenager when they headlined Rock On The Range in Columbus, Ohio. I loved how weird the stage set up was with Maynard near the back of the stage. It seemed very ego-less and I found that very cool and it almost created a true respect for the music and not for the celebrity that is created by way of the musical talent and status of his work in multiple successful bands. I have massive respect for Maynard. He stays true to himself and what he believes is right. Thats a rare thing nowadays.

@Freeman Thornberry If nobody knows shit about him, why are you so inclined to insist that we should hate him or ignore him? How do you know there's nothing great about him? What's the basis behind that statement? If we assume the only things we know about him are those which we view publicly, his performances, his work, we can clearly see that he at the very least has a creative mind. And definitely not a 'plain' voice, it's anything but plain compared to other singers not just in general, but even in his own genre. That's not me fanboying, that's objective reality if you observe the landscape of the music industry. I don't know what you've been smoking but nobody exactly worships MJK. He probably has some superfans with an unhealthy obsession with him, but that can be said for any celebrity. And yes, I agree that worshipping anyone to that extent is pretty bad. But that's not most of his fanbase or the fanbase of his projects. That's a small minority who you foolishly chose to accept as a majority, without looking deeper into it, probably to suit your narrative. If you ever actually took a moment to listen to MJK, to what he has said in his music, to his message, you'd come to understand that he advocates for literally everything you just described. MJK hates worshipping fanboys, he has actively made songs against them (prime example of this is the lyrics of "Hooker with a Penis"). He actively advocates for a populace that thinks for themselves and doesn't give in to people's views purely based on their authority, just listen to the intro of the Salival version of "Third Eye". It begins with a repeating quote by Timothy Leary, an American writer and psychologist - "Think for yourself. Question authority. Think for yourself. Question authority..." You can find these messages in all of Maynard's music. While on the surface it might sound unpleasant, crude, sadistic, perhaps demonic, if you take a moment to truly listen to it, to read between the lines, you'll find that the music in reality advocates for good health and well-being. I strongly suggest you look into various lyrical analyses of his music, especially Tool songs. There's a lot of hidden meaning in them. Heck, Tool have a song on their Aenima album titled 'Die Eier von Satan', but if you look into what the lyrics mean, it's actually a German recipe for cake lol.

You mean you don't know many other people who flout their dogmatic family religion whilst crushing academics and participating in three all-consuming activities of wrestling, cross-country and glee at the same time before joining the Army (to become an FO, which is fairly tech and math intensive) with the intent of going to art school to become an interior decorator, DENY an offer to go to West Point (which thousands of people would suck a mile long line of dicks to attend) and trip and fall into your fallback third option of becoming an ultra-famous multi-platinum record rockstar before pursuing your ultimate dream of living alone on a desert farm making wine?

I have to say in my experience as a musicians wife and band aid most of my adult life that the older I get and the more talented artists I've ever met and enjoyed listening to that MAYNARD is truly a MUSICIANS MUSICIAN .He has managed to surpass and exceed all forms of partisanship and is a genuine master at creating sophisticated lyrics with depth and social redeeming value even tapping into the magic that only a musical genius of his calibur can create His songs are full of rich personal emotions and have also demonstrated an uncanny ability to be socially relevant in a deeply prophetic and esoteric relevance. and I just cant get enough of him.or his musical endeavors . If his wine is half as great as everything else he does aI cant wait to have a glass . and on a side note. My mother's name is also JUDITH MARIE and was very religous herself but Catholic and I find that similarity helps me understand him in ways I cant explain. But overall I feel a connection with him and have come to have a very deep respect and admiration for everything he does. THANK YOU MAYNARD for sharing who you are and your work You have touched my life and the lives of your fans in so many beautiful and inspiring ways.

I admire him so much! He has such a deep self-awareness and an intense belief in true genuine ART without caring about any DOES and DON'TS. He just lives as he wants to live. Writes music and songs when he wants to, performs when he feels like performing, etc. One can discover how deeply attached with his mom he was and how emotional it is for his to perform songs like "Wings for Mary" in public. Actually, it was after the "10.000 days" tours when he felt uncomfortable with performing such deep songs to a partially indifferent crown (not all of them, but lots of people were there just because the songs and the band were popular) and decided to stop performing for a while. He felt the audience can't even grasp his lyrics which are honestly his deepest thoughts and reflections. And indeed we can't. We can just try to understand him. He is more than just a rock icon to me. With his lyrics we travel to other dimensions and experience unique feelings beyond our own self. I feel blessed that I have seen him twice with Tool - always hoping for more :)

Second time he was wearing a biker helmet, spiked shoulder pads and leather pants, but also never seen until the end of the show. Waiting for the other band members to finish all their musical work before writing lyrics and singing is always what I tried to get other band members to do with me. I can not speak for James but for me I listened to the musical emotion of what the others created, I drove that emotion into my head and a movie plays in my mind. I wrote what I saw and what I felt and at the same time there was always this feeling that I had to bring a mystery to it, a way for a listener to be curious about what was coming, what was meant and where that journey might take them. Without mystery in music ... you are simply a formula, an erratic equation for some stiff collar to make money off of you.

Most people don't understand his music because they're so close-minded verbally they don't understand him. I always love tool it's more of his hardcore stuff .A Perfect Circle has no swearing compared to Tool. His mother was beautiful what a tragedy but Maynard stay true and respects her to this day. He's an artist highly intelligent individual thanks for the video my friend

@@LieLikesMusic no I am judged that's why I bring up the swearing. My mother recently passed away so I've been listening to Tool a lot. Sometimes I sing it. For instance if I sing Aenima they judge me and think I'm in a bad mood when really it's soothing to me. I personally don't mind it I'm a fan of Maynard but don't like being judged by other people who don't understand him especially my boss. Get tired of bush and other bands after a while but never tool I'm just saying from my eyes you would understand it better thats why I brought up the curse words you can obviously see I said he's a diverse highly intelligent man I like the background information no matter what I'm a fan of tool I was just saying tool is a little more hardcore than perfect circle and I bought both CDs i love Maynard James Keenan like I said a true artist

V de Vilhena I heard one source say that Tool makes records as "one complete thought". By giving a listener a chance, to hear a sliver (on its own/or out of order), it destroys the entire context or vibe that the band intends for the recipient to grasp. It seems that they are even perfectionists about HOW you hear their art lol.
