It wasn’t his fault, it was first lap on a GP, max tried to push Sainz off track, would’ve been a penalty but Sainz decided to go for a switchback with 18 cars right being him and got himself hit, stupid move to try and pull for the sake of 1 place on corner 1 on a 50+ lap race. Literally the definition of racing incident

Came here to say this. If I remember correctly there were 3 or 4 incidents last year caused by him yet he somehow escapes punishment. While it may not be intentional incidents like this are dangerous and when they keep happening around the same driver they need to be looked at more closely.

Completely correct and even George’s own race engineer told him to get on with it because even they knew George was well as fault… he wasn’t wrong here though… he had half a length of car alongside max’s car and he was on the inside… therefore it WAS his corner… it’s up to max whether he wants to stay there and risk it. It’s hard racing and these things happen. Stewards made the right call here

@@lewismcdonald2826 You have to be ahead to claim the corner, not stick your nose in and punt the other driver off at the exit. THAT is something Goerge learned as a little boy in Karting. Max was ahead all the way even at the apex. George only passed him because he compromised Max' exit out of T2 with the punt.

George Russel is the type of guy to never assume it's mistakes

So George, if it was your corner, why weren’t you able to complete the pass? Max was ahead on corner entry, was further ahead at the apex, and pulled further ahead on the exit, which is when George understeered into him. George wasn’t able to catch and pull along side Max until halfway down the straight on the entry to corner 3… after he’d crashed into him at corner 2 and damaged the Red Bull’s side pod.

That's not how racing works. It was neither cars corner as they were side by side postion was still being fought for. Max held his outside line but George came up into him. George needs to remember that aslong as a car is aside you they don't have to back out and he needs to allow them space exit if the turn

The interviewer also some what twisted George’s words as that’s not exactly what he said, he was just saying how having the outside he should of backed off more when max had a lot more to lose and was basically fighting the inevitable that he would pass as he’d have 3 inside corners. Ofc max could fight it which he did but as we saw the risk of that wasn’t worth it when he would of breezed passed when drs opened the following lap. It’s what his engineer said to max to that he has nothing to lose, like it wouldn’t be worth damaging the car so much you lose out in the race tomorrow was the bigger picture like imagine his car got totalled from that for fighting for 2pts on Perez when he could get 7+ tomorrow if he wins

@@crypticalibi it was kinda a risky move for verstappen because he was on the outside and had nearly all the risk, especially when he is fighting for the championship. Max would probably have done the same as George a couple of years back and would have forced the other car to bail out instead of crashing.

The problem is the rule change that states at what point it’s your corner if I’m right you have to have your front tires along side the other guys front tires for it to be your corner when passing on the inside

George has more excuse that King George of England.

George was in the right to go for it and Max did nothing wrong holding onto his place, it was just a bold and asserting move. This is just another time when Max chose "stubborn mode". You can see when when Max says "I left him enough room", which is true, but Max also in the middle of the road and leaving zero real room for error. Big difference between making a poor choice and crashing and making a fair choice that ends up crashing because two people made some incompatible choices.

Also the rules stipulate (since a few years) that the driver on the inside must leave space if the driver on the outside is ahead. Which Max was in the corner he got the damage. It's nice that in karting 8 years ago that was "your corner". But your not in karts anymore George. And Yes, Max has pushed people wide, Lewis has... But not on a street circuit where "pushing someone wide" means "into a wall".

@@tharealmb if you watch the frame-by-frame analysis, George locked up his inner tire and wasn't trying to hit Max. It wasn't intentional. Any time a driver is on the outside there's always a risk. Max is well aware.

@@garetht677 I definitely agree, if the positions were switched I'd be saying the same thing. As much as it is great to get a good overtake, finishing the race in the points is also important, and that move very nearly cost both of them. Realistically Max shouldn't have stuck around for as long as he did as well, considering he would've overtook George within a lap or two with that straight line speed of the RB19.

Max always knew what he is getting into, but still do it!!!

He can make illegal and dangerous manoeuvres but when others hit him it’s unacceptable. He’s a hypocrite and I don’t think anyone unless ur a sell out, a bull fan, or Dutch you sympathise with him.

The position definitely wasn’t lost for max. He also left enough space for George. But max himself says cold tires, cold tires. He was obviously aware he was taking a risk and George locked up and went hand over hand on the steering to try to avoid contact. They both took a risk and shit happened.

Even if GR was wrong in this case and Max was correct, he's got ZERO right to be giving a masterclass on "it takes 2 people to make a corner" ! The guy respects track limits about as much as a 2-year-old respects colouring inside the lines, but suddenly now when someone matches that energy we want to go back to "respectful racing" 🤔

He apologized for causing damage, but he is right you always risk when you dont back out on the outside, something Max has done before and he came a cropper for even as it was Hamiltons fault at Silverstone, he took the risk, he just doesn't know when to play the prost card sometimes

@@danbruh33 he's not obligated to, but he has to think about his championship, someone someday like Hamilton before him will be the new air to his throne and be a match for him, it's important that he learns these hard lessons now before it comes to that, honestly Monza and Silverstone only happened because two driver's had the same mentality, if this had happened every race, we'd of had collisions in Australia, imola, Barcelona , Brazil, Qatar and abu Dhabi between Lewis and max

There are different “unwritten rules” of racing depending on where you came from. In the United States, having the inside line at the apex of a corner does not mean you “own that corner”. Max races like American’s, but the thing is, we know that we’re taking a risk and trusting the other person to not slam into us ensuring mutual self destruction, but Max needs to not have an attitude when someone calls him out on it and does do that. He’s taking that risk, and maybe it will take a few incidents like this for people to realize that’s how you beat him.

You can’t say George had the corner if his FRONT end hit the middle of Max’s car. End of story.
