You have just saved me money. I acquired a 1950 Husqvarna .270 with a Mauser action. The safety tab kept falling out. I took it to a "gunsmith" and after a month he sys it is ready, I go back and he cycles the action and the tab falls out again. he says "okay gimmie a week I wont charge you for the extra" gives me the the rifle I took it home hung it up and when I took it down, damned if the same problem didn't happen. As I didn't want my face blown off I hadn't shot it. went on a facebook gunsmith group showed them the problem and a guy says bolt wasn't assembled properly. I find you on KZread and in 20 minutes problem solved. THANK YOU BROTHER!

To remove the firing pin spring on your rifle is there a steel ring with a hole through the stock behind the sling? That hole with the steel rings on both sides you can set the firing pin in and press down to remove the spring.

The safety all the way to the right locks the trigger and the bolt. The safety straight up just locks the trigger - this allows you to cycle the bolt to empty the rifle safely. If you figure out how THAT works I'd love to see it!

I honor the effort... really... but hey, 53 minutes for something to be done and explained (thoroughly) in under 10 🤔... man, that‘s not rocket science, it‘s the world‘s simpelst bolt action. Tricky part on the extractor, I admit. But other than that... 😏... gave it 👍 anyway. Greetings from Good old Germany, ... home of the Mauser 😎

How do Germans feel about he 1903 Springfield?

  • @normand.2431

Tanner Jordan ... well... don’t take it personally, but the M1903-Springfield is basically a M1892-Mauser / M1898-Karg/Jorgensen mock-up. The US-government even paid 200,000$ to Mauser for licensing the 2-lug bolt action. This was done around 1900. By that time however, Mauser already had the new and improved M1898 system up and running, so this wasn’t any disadvantage. And history proves, the Mauser 98-system still is the most successfully built bolt action on the planet. I own a K98 out of 1941 (Mauser Oberndorf, matching numbers) and upgraded it with an Archangel sniper stock and a Picatinny rail system for a Zeiss scope 5-25x50. The basics of this gun are already 80 years old but gave me a sniper rifle capable of putting 10 shot groups of less than 1“ down the 300yd range. I frequently hit the 12“ target on the half-mile range in Denmark. ...80 year old gun... None the less: I like the US .30-caliber better than the German 8x57. It has a better trajectory on long range shots. And in the end, the American M1903 Springfield rifle provided a solid base for brave American soldiers to end two world wars. And even as a German, I have to say I‘m glad it turned out this way. But no, the M1903 Springfield would not have been my choice against the Mauser K98 carbine. Greetings from Good old Germany 🇩🇪

Norman Döring I knew it was a VERY similar rifle but I didn’t know they paid out to Mauser. I’m glad to have Germany on our side and I hope all nations can keep your nation safe as your nation would be the frontline. Sorry to keep bugging you but I’m a huge history buff and I have to know. What monuments if any does Germany have dedicated to either world war.

Tanner Jordan ... actually, there are about 100,000 monuments in Germany dedicated to all fallen soldiers in the European wars. Most of them are very small in size, since the thought is not to glorify wars but to keep the memory of those who died. Of course, the Russians erected their own monuments of fallen Red Army soldiers in Eastern Germany during the occupation. Most of them are still there and being maintained out of respect. There are a few larger „Tombs of the Unknown Soldier“ and they are seen as national places of respect and memorial. Matter of fact, I can only think of two German monuments dedicated to an actual war or battle: The Völkerschlacht-Denkmal in Leipzig dedicated to the final battle when the Allied Nations around Prussia, Austria, Russia, England and Sweden finally defeated Napoleon Bonaparte in 1813. The other one is the Hermanns-Denkmal. A huge statue of Hermann the Cheruscan deep inside the Teuteburg Forest to honor my personal national hero who, though totally outnumbered, kicked the Roman Legions out of Germania for good. This battle made the history books as the Varus Battle of 09AD and actually marked the beginning of the downfall of the Roman Empire, since from this day forth, no further expansion to the north was possible. I hope this sort of covers your questions. Thank you very much for your interest in my country‘s history. And Greetings from Good old Germany 🇩🇪

Good video, the info about lubrication is especially useful. However the bit about slam firing the gun is incorrect; it is impossible for the firing pin to stay protruding from the bolt upon opening because of the curved surface at the rear of the bolt, no matter what is done with the trigger the firing pin & attached bits will be retracted into the bolt due to this surface.

I have this exact same problem, and the first time I took it apart I realized how difficult it was to disassemble with my 2 position safety. In order to spin that bolt sleeve off you must push/pull the firing pin back all the way until the firing pin doesn’t catch inside the bolt sleeve, and I had to Vice the bolt and pry with a screwdriver (thankfully not scratching anything). If you or anyone have found a better way to do this, let me know.

There is a easier way to get the bolt disassembled. Look at the stock of your gun. There should be a reenforced hole behind the sling hole. That's for bolt disassembly.

You should not have the firing pin on anything to release tension of the spring. The odd metal hole in the stock of the rifle is what you put the firing pin in to press down without having the pin end itself on anything.

Take it to a gunsmith. If you have a workbench with a solid metal edge, lock the lower part of the cocking piece to it, force the rest of the bolt downwards and turn the safety into vertical position. Then proceed as described... like I said... that ain‘t rocket science, it’s just world‘s simplest bolt mechanism 😎👍. Greetings from Home of the Mauser.

Hi there, this is a great video - thanks for helping! I've actually got a problem that I haven't been able to fix after disassembling and reassembling my Kar98k bolt multiple times. For whatever reason, after the bolt is back in the rifle, I'm able to move the safety from the far-right (double safe) to the middle (normal safe) to fire no problem, but I am not able to move the safety from left to right (to re-engage the safety). It remains stubbornly in the "fire" position. Do you know how I can resolve this? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

There's a notch at the top of the bolt head, on the whole firing pin block. You can use a round, or a screwdriver to pry that notch up and then rotate it to get it unstuck, I know this is late but I hope this somewhat helps!

Pressing the firing ping into ANY object is a BAD IDEA and IMPROPER TAKEDOWN of the Mauser bolt assembly. Get the right tool. Use the hole in the disc on a k98 butt stock. Insert the firing pin until the shoulders of the firing pin rest on the edge the hole. If you have a Mauser without this handy built in tool in the stock, drill a 5/16" hole 3" deep into a piece of wood and use that. NEVER apply pressure onto the firing pin. It is heat treated and hardened and BRITTLE. The metal 1" back from the tip of the pin is SOFT, and you could bent the pin there if you didn't already snap the tip of the pin off. Apply force ONLY to the shoulders of the pin and you will never break it.

zim wolf you can manually set it to the correct position, but it takes some muscle. It helps to put the body of the bolt in a padded vise and then pull like heck to overcome the spring and retract it far enough to rotate the safety.

Not the proper oil WD-40 is only meant to displace water, and it is a poor lubricant. It also dries over time, leaving your precious gun parts uncoated, exposed to air and water, and prone to rust in long storage. Use oil. Back in the day, you would use car engine oil if you had nothing else available.

Not a good video. Narrator is twitching like he's on speed, doesn't seem to be experienced with Mauser bolts (some of the easiest of all WW2-era bolts), chatters too much, and takes over 50 minutes to explain something that only takes about 10-12 minutes.
