The absolute best explanation video I have ever seen. Not a second of it is a waste of your time. No stupid intro with skulls, explosions, full auto etc. Just straight to work. Great explanation on takedown and assembly with helpful tips to make the process pain free on the rather complex internals of the Ruger LCP. Obviously skilled and very knowledgeable on firearms. Thanks and great job!

I'm very mechanically inclined and consider myself an uncertificated armorer. I still being ignorant to the gun model knocked out the don't knock it out pin. This video easily had me reassembling the pistol without damaging anything. Thanks for your time Ashburn.

I watched your disassembly video on the LCP 380. I decided to take a couple of minutes and leave a comment which is something I very rarely do. I think you did an great job. You quenched my thirst for wanting to strip my little 380 past removing the slide and so on for field stripping and cleaning. Not a whole lot of things in there and not much of a reason to futher disassemble thanks to your great video. Now I have to look at what other pistols you may have videos on,

Hello. I recently purchased the LCP 2 and always tear down to the roots new guns out of the box. First thing I do is do my research to find videos and information on how to accomplish this. Came across your video first off, I have to say WOW!!!!! Not only are your videos packed with great instructional information, but my fiance and I just enjoy listening to you. We are sold on your videos bro. Keep up the great work and keep them coming. Thanks for taking the time to show us!!

Re: the "disconnect spring" - I cheated - I attached a loop of thread around it, used a needle threader through the roll pin hole, the thread was grabbed and pulled out of the same hole via the needle threader, and the thread gave me a "handle" to align the spring with the (same) roll pin hole. Sometimes, ya gotz to be creative!!!!!!!!!!! (especially after a bout of frustration). Otherwise, GREAT comprehensive instructions by AshburnArmorer, to whom I've now subbed!

The absolute best no nonsense video. I’ve had this gun for over 10 years and couldn’t find any good instructions on how to tear it down completely…so there it sat collecting more dust. having glocks i am use to completely tearing them down. You have taken all the mystery out of it. The only thing missing was when we were in the trigger block, with the plate that kept flying off, shoukd any of that be lubricated? Thanks for a valuable instruction on the lcp! Btw, the inside my gun was filthy…dunno if it was just nasty lint cuz it is a carry pistol or that i had no knowledge how to go any further in disassembly!

Awesome, super detailed step by step to disassembly and not to mention educational on how everything operates! You took the time to film and narrate the process and I truly appreciate it. I followed you step by step and it was successful and stress free. I did pull and clean the mag release but I found if you slide the spring down and attach it to the release button, then use a punch to “pop” the other side of the spring in, it was pretty easy for me. Thank you again for taking the time to upload your process.

this is a great video. For the LCP II, the only real difference is when removing the aluminum chasis from the plastic frame, you just need to use a thin-soft punch to make room for the serial number plate on the Chasis, so that it will slip past the plastic frame on the one side. This Video Rocks!!

Thank you for such time expenditure on both processes. I initially viewed it to both familiarize myself with the weapon as I do with each one I initially take possession of and to take in the process of trigger removal for an upgrade. Although I'm capable of the upgrade while using the video as a guide, I have to tell you that I just didn't think the trigger and frame had so many parts and so many small, hard to reach parts. I'm 67 and I was exhausted at the end of the video from just watching you. I was initially going to change out the trigger, guide rod and install a heavier guide rod spring, which are easy enough to do by themselves, but that trigger disassembly and re-assembly. Ugh....Tired just thinking about it again. lol But the video is a keeper in my bookmarks for that special day I'm so bored that I decide to do that trigger upgrade. But I'm thinkin' that I'll most likely be dead before I get that ambitious again in my life. LOL Thanks again for workin' ur' magic and explaining everything so well. fox

To remove the mainspring pin i use a small curved o-ring pick. I hook the sping and pin together with the pick at about about 10 o'clock. Lift out the notches, rotate to where it'll fit and lower it into the magwell. Oreintated rails down and the backstrap facing away from yourself. Ive found it to be much easier than pliers.

Thanks for the run through! I used this video along with my general knowledge of armory to do a complete disassemble for my LCP II. For all those out there worrying about starting their LCP II Disassemble, it is ok. This video will get you through 95% of the II. Main differences as far as instructions and steps go: 1: Slide lock + Captive Pin Spring are one in the same on the 2 (the LCP has two separate springs and a much smaller slide lock bar). 2: Slightly different sear/cam mechanism _but_ placement is identical! Don't get hung up on the different shape. 3: Note for both firearms: A bit difficult to tell in this video but, when inserting the sear spring between the frame and sear, the bottom leg will be facing slightly forwards and down. You need to rotate it back with some serious pressure in order to push the pin all the way though. Once pin is through, the pin helps retain the pressure on the spring. If the long leg of your sear spring is facing upwards with no tension on it once installed, you've done it wrong.

Thanks for the video man! helped a ton on my LCP 2. it's pretty much the same set up, the frame pins are slightly different sizes, the slide lock is an actual bar that the takedown spring holds on, and the hammer sear is pretty different looking in how it's shaped. anyway. awesome video and you really saved my ass!

Excellent disassembly demo. The item you refer to as "the metal insert" is actually called the "trigger pivot," and when the little nub on it that fits into a hole on the narrow end of the trigger bar breaks off (as it is prone to do), it turns the pistol into a paperweight. Taurus TCP 738 pistols have exactly the same trigger pivot and trigger bar mechanism. I've experienced one failure of the trigger pivot in the LCP and FOUR of them in the TCP 738. If you're ever firing your LCP and all of a sudden the trigger no longer works at all (the pistol cannot be fired), suspect that failure first. Ruger would do well to make that part out of titanium, or at least a very strong, heat-treated steel. It wouldn't appear to be under that much stress when doing its job, but apparently it is, or else the metallurgy is sub-par. All of that notwithstanding, Ruger's customer service department is amazing and deserves props for their customer care. This particular repair required 7 days; i.e., I had the pistol back in 7 days, which included 4 days for transit to Ruger and back, time in their possession, and the weekend. Best wishes - great channel! Cheers.

46:57 the small hole in the right side of the polymer frame, located directly above the disconnect axel pin, is for inserting a thin punch to hold the disconnect in the forward position while installing the receiver back into the frame. This will make that portion of reassembly much easier.

The spring for the mag release is easy to get out, the trick to putting back in: put the mag release button in place, put the long leg of the spring into the hole in it, with short leg facing forward. Hold down on top of spring and use screwdriver or your finger to rotate the spring into position.

I took a piece of 22 gauge wire and make a loop to catch the hook of the spring then pulled with pliers. The spring almost jumped onto the shaft. Easy Pezzy.

Tip and question for ya. My extractor spring has a ground flat end on one end. I would presume that goes against the plunger? My tip is to lay the slide on it's side extractor facing up. Position it at the end of the table and clamp the back of the slide to the table. You can use 2 hands now.
