I've always been amazed that the greatest multitask terran of all time only uses 2 control groups consistently.

That and he doesn’t even have all of his army hot key’d into those groups. During the late game he literally had 1 ghost and 5 units on 1 & 2 while having a huge army. I always feel like I need EVERY unit hot key’d or else I feel inefficient at using them. Do you think he control clicks all of his marauders, marines, and ghosts into position and boxes his units for the splits? And even then, I feel like he’s still just doing everything by clicking on the minimap to find what he needs and only using his mouse to click and use what he needs. It’s incredible.

@@TiggyMcWiggy well, i'm pretty sure he uses f2 in that case. Basically he uses f2 + 2 control groups. But most of the terrans use f2 + 3 ctrl groups. Maru is a master at tabbing i guess ^^.

I've seen Maru play irl and I gotta say he runs a pretty efficient key setup. He uses Group 3 for CC's in the early to mid-game (when he's constantly producing SCVs), before freeing it for Ravens/Vikings in the late game. That's why he also groups his CC's to 8. So in late-game (especially TvP), it'll be 1 bio army, 2 Ghosts, 3 Ravens/Vikings. For a TvZ where he doesn't need to control army/Ghosts/Ravens simultaneously, he'll often finish the game with Group 3 still on CC's. Also, not everything is attached to a group--usually just the units he's constantly using. TY also runs a flexible system that allows him fantastic multi-tasking flexibility in late-game.

Dude uThermal I love your demeanor when casting. Very humble. "You guys learn from me, I learn from them, now we're learning from Maru together". Its really hittin me in the feels
You should totally do an analysis of Cure's games against Reynor/Serral. He showed a relatively new style of playing against Zerg using a quick double factory into drilling class and widow mine drops. This did a lot of economic damage to the Zerg and also seems to be particularly helpful against a Ling-Bane-Muta style as it pins the Mutas back at base instead of allowing it to harass the Terran player. Both Reynor/Serral seems to have issues dealing with it, although by the 3rd game, it felt like Serral is beginning to adapt to it.
Maru wins because Serral eco was so bad he can only afford Ultras 'dolls' on rails. Look 19:14 they don't even move, just rolling around and trying to scare the shit out of marines
thank you for the insights, it offers a great perspective!
Great video as always ! Thanks for this analysis
Gosh i love the silence at 24:25 before the mine shoot, it's amazing xD Great content, GG !
thanks for the demonstrating
creep denied vs mules i think creep denied is much better that meant it safer to clean the creep later on and easier to contain the zerg, if they gonna do a roach attack it would be slightly slower and it incentivize them to more of a mutalisk play since ground unit need creep to be effective , by denied the creep thus make subsequence creep denied easier and safer it make zerg have a harder time to attack you and it give you more time to go to late game. Also the answer for why mass orbital cause maru keep making CC in the main then morp to orbital and everytime a bse go down he flow the CC/orbital from the main to replace them then remake a new CC that gonna morph to orbital in the main
Great video, great channel. On a side note, the games that you play are entertaining even when you lose; Mad Strats !
Maru making macro games vs Serral look easy. Great points about his focus on unit composition and army positioning. Flawless transition into higher tech units/late game. His widow mines were placed perfectly around his expansions, and his engagements are always so efficient. I could watch Maru POV all day.

22:35 it's another orbital cc from main base, his planetary got killed at 19:10 time on the video
Yoo this was actually really helpful for me even though its 2 years old. Got to dia 1 way back in HOTS but have only really played a handful of games since then. My understanding of TvZ never really developed passed suddenly getting lots of marauders for the eventual ultra transition but I'm noticing more recently Terrans are getting them waay earlier, even more so to help out with banes than ultras. Is it fair to say marine tank/mines is a bit outdated now in TvZ?. This lategame style reminds me a lot of broodwar TvZ split maps where Zerg often mines out faster and Terran wins due to lots of efficient trades and defense. Thanks for the great content, especially loving the new proxy hatch to GM series! All the best.
Hey! I just saw it and first of all, thank you for the review it's amazing! thank you for the time and patience. Second I have a question but I don't know if you can answer it, but I think that "didn'tdamage by them after the "freeze" and all of the Ultralisk were affected by that bug, of course I could be wrong, it's just one thing that I would like to know if it was right or not. Thanks in advance

No they do damage as normal but the animation is bugged :P
They are both beasts bur serral forgot adrenal glands in this game which saved maru from much more struggle. Still its nice to see that some terrans still manage to win games, I cant... ;)
Quality content mate.
did anyone else notice that the ultras bugged and didnt have movement animation? If not, watch from 18:11 and see
good video uThermal
Maru did an assumption, the zerg needs one more base than the terran to win. So instead of wasting his time, energy and money by doing multi drops (you always loose your medivacs), trying to kill drones (that the zerg is replacing for free almost and in 20 seconds), he is trying to keep his own economy strong. Focus on having always the right composition and defending both side of the map. He choosed to skip the planetary when he saw it was ultra. The zerg cannot a click the base because the mutas are not here anymore. I think maru broke the game and his using his insane skills in another way. Clem should try it Thank you Uthermal for the video :D

Well, it's not an assumption that the Zerg needs one more base than the Terran at all times in order to have a chance at winning; that's just a meta fact. I think Maru used that idea to come up with the strategy of repeatedly denying the new base Serral wanted to take that were next to his (closer to the center in other words) later on so Serral would never be up that one base. He then coupled that strategy with simply defending Serral's repeated attacks, where he knew he would, at least for the most part, get the better trades, because Maru is just so good at defending. That means Serral is losing more money than Maru AND isn't going to be able to get that extra base he needs after the other ones dry out. It is weird he didn't try slowing Serral down with drops and harass, but that really wasn't an option when the Mutas and later on the Corruptors were out. He had only a small window for that during Serral's transition periods, and he chose not to for whatever reason.
Is it possible to somehw get this repley for yourself? Marus firstperson is ideal for training!
Back to Simpin!! Love it!!
How do you switch to older replay overlay?
Thanks for the analysis love your take on the games and also your presentation style! You're an excellent pro & analyst. Would love to see more of these. Lemme check out this patreon
Im a scrub but my answer to why so many orbitals and specifically why on the far right: 1) Serral uses a lot of burrow in this game and maru needs scans. 2) at 26:36 responds to a big amount of units by simply lifting his base and pulling the workers, a planetary might get killed there.
@kommisar.
Жыл бұрын
I thought he had all those Orbitals because he was behind on the number of Orbitals he wanted and thus couldn't afford to have a Planetary there. It was like he prioritized having Scans over having more-stable bases.
You are the king Marcy marc
Controling Terran army is disproportionately harder than the other 2 races. They just pump out units, send forward and pull back. And we have to juggle like monkeys, split borrow, unborrow the mines, stim , pick up with the medives, siege unsiege... they hve to add more abilities to zerg and protoss army
@karelchrastina5655
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's not like the ideal Protoss army has sentry for the guardian shield, templars for the storm(ideally in the prism), disruptors for the doom balls and oracles for the relevations. Protoss army has many abilities, you just cannot stim micro with templars or sentries or disruptors ;) Especially Templars are lazy, I believe when Templars die they become overlords :D Controlling the late game Protoss army is hard. (I play random BTW) If any race has it easier it's zerg but they have the heavy hitting decisions elsewhere(zergs also have kamikaze Vipers XD )
We've have Maru PoV for TvP and TvZ, now we need Maru TvT analysis.

It seems Marus whole game plan is to split map and just be more cost efficient in every encounter. If you are good enough to do that, it's just mathematical impossible to loose. What a baller.
Maru demonstrated that Terran can bleed the Zerg dry.
3 oclcok orbital was replaced from main as well
Can you do an analysis on Maru’s TvT? Using mass ravens in big fights is certainly a different approach than a couple ravens for support/harassment.

@uThermal

Yeah what a weirdo
I feel Serral got a little tunnel vision on the ultra-ling-bane... But hell, he is the god-king so he knows best.
Zerg's strategy usually is to outmine other races simply because they can, and force trades. Even if its equal trade Zerg will still come out on top because they have bigger bank and they can max out again instantly with stocked up larvae and force a favorable fight or take control of the map and mine more. What Maru did was just to turtle hard, defend well and make better trades so zerg cannot have the map control. And if zerg cannot secure new bases, they will eventually run dry. Banelings are supply efficient because it cost the same supply as a zergling but has potential to do way more damage, its a very good unit for zerg's strategy to force trades. However they are resource inefficient, Serral should have tech to other units when he realize that he cannot break Maru's defense.
@kommisar.
Жыл бұрын
To be fair, Serral was doing a good job of killing workers and denying that 9 o'clock base with his Ling/Bane/Muta combo. When that got less efficient, he switched to Ultras and Corruptors, and also brought in some Infestors (though he didn't seem to be able to do much with them). I don't know if Serral got impatient or knew he was fucked and decided to just YOLO, but that last attack through the ramp with his clumped up units seemed like a desperation move, and easily the biggest mistake he made the whole game.
I think you're in love with Maru
