Hi Marc, I've been thinking about Maru's game 1 v Serral and this game. Both were played defensively, both took extremely cost efficient trades throughout. But during both, his opponents had nice banks throughout most of the game. I was trying to figure out why this wasn't a game losing problem. The question is what happens at the end of the game, when Maru takes his last base! Due to 10+ OC's, Maru can create a 3 base mineral income on 1 single base with MULEs which don't receive the inefficient mining penalty. We've all known about the MULE hammer since WoL, but I think this take on the game is basically a set up to get to the point in time when Maru has to defend one single base, while Protoss or Zerg have mined out their bases and are now on a less than 3 base mineral income with a depleting bank. This, coupled with the fact that due to low SCV count Maru can both have a maxed out army, equivalent to his opponent's supply, while also having the strike potential of Nukes and the Bio hit squad. For about 40 supply (the missing SCVs) Maru has essentially two small armies which can do as much damage as his opponent's hit squads without depleting his main army supply count. It's basically playing for the check mate at the end of the game when each player has to defend a certain part of the map: Maru 1 base, his opponents 2-3 bases spread apart.

They have such big of a bank because both players are maxed out, Maru is investing hard in static defense and staying on a lower amount of bases

Lategame terran is so fucking hard. The goal of protoss is to mass overpowered Amove units with like one spell unit. The goal of the terran is to get more and more units with spells (siege from libs and tanks are a spell, you need and action to setup). This is so hard to attack and siege tank and libs + emp + stim very fast without a mistake. Where the protoss launch his interceptors, go back and eventually blink to snipe vikings. Under a certain level it's pretty unfair

I'm so confused. For years I played like that and it was considered as "noob way", "hahaha what are you doing, go end the game", "he always defends and makes tournaments go 1 hour". I remember some tournaments even had a rule that the admin can stop the game if he thinks that it goes for too long and makes bracket stalemate for too long. All of this made me lose confidence in myself, forced me to learn other styles like Bomber's SCV pulls or marine-tank parades, eventually leading to me being a worse and worse player, which obviously ended up in me retiring being full of regrets. Now, years later I randomly check what's happening in the SC2 world and I see the best Terran doing the same thing. I have mixed feelings.

I relly love defensive style with bio into late game, it's so cool, but you need to be brave as Maru to play this style :D

Question is... Who is up there that can match Maru in the late game? I reckon Trap (ex teammate), Stats, Serral (Of course), TY (TvT archrival)

Why was trap so eager to attack? I remember a maru vs parting game with the similar style from both players but it didn't go as well as it did this time xD

I think a lot of it depended on the map, Maru seemed to know how to defend on this map perfectly while only needing 2 tank squads. Against parting it was on Deathaura which is a lot tougher

Maru makes terran look like protoss late game. And he also make protoss look like pleb terran like us

100% if there was a prism in my main, it would have been f2 + a click lol

Just 7 unupgraded tanks and a bunch of turrets is all you need to deal with the two most annoying things in the game: blink DTs and disruptors. Well I guess you also have to be Maru to make it work 😁

What do u think if Trap added 2-3 tempest for siege and didnt attack that way? Or just add some storms to fry all these vikings.

Trap could, however, given how quick Maru EMP and flank him. Trap didn't feel the storm that game.

Storms would have been good I think so yeah, I think Trap just wanted to play with a fast army because of all the tanks

I love how Maru is switching tactics... I remember a year back or two, when *He* was only proxying in Korea's GSL. Now though, *He* is a macro efficiency machine and tries to dry out the map's resources. Still looses to Serral eventually however.. So we see that even *He* seems to be following a specific playstyle and sticking with it 100% regardless of how the game develops. For example there were moments in this game with Trap where *He* had no vision of the Protoss bases for long time, and that's always a bit of a gamble. So in my mind - even Maru gets to be a bit imperfect.. but just enough to make it enjoyable watching *Him* in action! Just like the race *He* plays.... Go Terrans!! (Ps. Uthermal dont be sad about macro game - The micro *You* are capable of doing (like a sexy reapers all in) I am sure even *He* would be jealous of)

Maru is the biggest nuke spammer ever, never seen anyone use nuke as much as him, in the GSL S3 r16 vs parting he used as many nukes as other terran use their entire carreers, 5 nukes to destroy a base
