Sneaky strong and super athletic. Super driven, but prefers to do while being motivated by talking light (some of the hardest workers I ever met always had kind of a happy casual seeming outlook like he does. Unfortunately, a few were also the type who were totally into themselves and got motivated by telling themselves and you how hard they work ...all the time. I prefer the martin type).

Now it's for sure going in the direction of high endurance/cardio events that favor lighter weight athletes. Brian Shaw and Thor now get injured every competition because they have wayyyy too much mass to be hauling around for these newer events. Folks see the best and figure they have no chance if they aren't giants like Shaw, Thor, Tom Stoltman, etc. Not only huge but athletic. My question would be, did pro strongmen like Martins make gaining size a specific part of their regimen or just let it come naturally with their weight training and strength? You hear and see videos from the giants saying how eating is a job in and of itself and how tedious it can be. Is it possible to compete at the entry level without that aspect?

Any suggestions from anyone that does anything with strongman. Thanks! What workouts do I need to focus on to get that strongman build? I do a lot of tire stuff, and I’m in the gym but just want some suggestions from anyone 👍🏻 and of course I know diet is essential and key to it all! Gotta eat big to get big 💪🏻

Keep in mind that the sport has changed in the past couple years. Strongmen now need to be more athletic and well-rounded to do well in the events they focus more on nowadays like the carry for max distance. The events in strongman nowadays favor the smaller and more athletic. Former champions like Brian Shaw and Big Z trained their bodies to carry insanely heavy weight (even for strongmen) shorter distances or doing much heavier static lifts. Examples for this include the super yolk, max deadlift, or heavier truck pulls. Since they’ve been moving away from some of those events and are now focusing on events that require more cardio and endurance. Strongmen from the previous generation like Brian Shaw now have to make big changes to their workouts and diets to help their bodies adapt to this while younger “smaller” strongmen like Martins Licis and Mateusz Kieliszkowski are in their own element. I think Martins is an amazing athlete and great guy overall, but if this were 10 or even 5 years ago, he would be out of his depth. There’s a reason why past WSM champions were so massive at the height of their careers. It’s just what the sport demanded of them, and whether we like it or not, the sport has changed. Now guys like Martins are setting the standard for what it takes to win WSM.

I think I a competition like WSM , generally you need to be able to compete in the moving and static events. Mariusz was a prime example of this and it’s why he has 5 titles. Arnold’s is more about static strength , so that’s where the “fatties” come in to their own
