Straight up
Marques Johnson was *UNDERRATED* you don't average 20/25 ppg in the NBA by accident, also like the changes to the show, Gil letting the guest talk! 👍
His memory is second to none. Great episode!!

Ability to recall events with such description was insanely impressive.
Appreciated the transparency of the interview. Engaging storytelling. Savant level recall (Names, dates, places, details). Much respect to Gil for allowing MJ to get his stories told without interruption. Josiah did a great job interviewing (per usual) his father, in spite knowing the answers to the questions multiple times over. *random* I have fam that have lived off Inandale for over 50 years.
One of the best. Never saw him play in the league, but see his videos dunking on his birthday every year giving hope. Great story telling, and how it always bring it back to the original question.

Way ahead of his time.
Another point forward from back in the day is Mickey Johnson. Played for the Bulls, from The City at that. Went to college with his namesake. Paul Pressey was after Marques Johnson in Milwaukee. Of course Pip might be the most refined and decorated point forward in terms of that role and both sides of the floor.
"You can probably relate this" 😂😂
Outstanding interview. MJ is a great storyteller and keeps you interested the whole time he is sharing his story. 💯
Easily one of the Top 3 episodes from you guys. Definitely one of my favorites! Thank you for the great content
Y’all have to bring pops back this the best episode ever
We just listened to a convo of a OG in the neighborhood spitting knowledge. You don’t hear from guys like this that often great guest with great stories

Indeed...Knuckleheads just had Worthy and Isiah and All The smoke got Magic...EPIC.
This two part interview was the best of no chill period.
The REALIST interview I've seen/ heard in a very long time. I remember watching MJ when he was in college , that whole '76 season was amazing my Wolverines, Hoosiers , Bruins, etc. MJ on the Bucks was all world , they played my Pistons often. MJ intelligence mixed with his street knowledge is what I've always liked about him , also he was like the Billy Dee of the NBA back then PAUSE ⏸️ 😄... He really is a HOF , it's long overdue, he's accomplished more than many thar are in the HOF
This dude is an underrated bucket
Great discussion. Loved Marques Johnson. What an amazing player and cool dude. Always took time to take photos and autographs when he came to Golden State.
Why'd he shade Gil at 36:51 "You can probably relate to this"! Talking about having guns in the locker room 🤣
MARCUS JOHNSON IS A HALL OF FAMER, FACTS 👍👍
Excellent interview. I think compared to who in the HOF, base off his numbers, Marques should be in HOF.
This man should be in the HOF for his numbers AND for keeping his NBA experience 100!! Not many players would tell the story of his teammate being a pimp WHILE in the NBA!! MJ is my new favorite OG.
“I shot 42% and I was trying!” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You hear how important Marques took his shooting percentage in shooting ball? That's what I mean when I tell people these guys in todays game don't care about shooting percentages and that is the difference from a good shooter to a great shooter.
This episode is amazing 😂
Gil's reactions are hilarious
Another great episode!
Great interview! I’m a young dude but we need more old school ball players interviews
Beniot Benjamin lived down the street from me. Monroe, La
One of my favorite interviews.. shout out UNC he killed it
Marques Johnson not lying that was the first time he shot below 50 percent. He was at 45 percent. The following year he was at 51 percent
Great episode
I just love listening to Marques tell stories :)
Love this. REAL content
He was one helluva player indeed. In this interview I couldn't help but notice his amazing photographic memory!
This fool said Pat Riley GENTRIFIED "Three Peat"... LMAO LMAO LMAO!!!
He definitely needs more notoriety very cool classy intelligent guy
Amazing interview…Extremely dope!!
Great interview.
Milwaukee bucks legend as a Milwaukee native we will always love you MJ
One of the best episodes. Great one and respect to the OG
I didn't know he was NBA player. All I know him for was White men can't jump. Crazy.
One of my favorite episodes
This goes down as one of those classics, just like Vern maxwell…..why there isn’t a tv series about the NBA cocaine 80s is beyond me….they’d probably ban it like espn did “playmakers” it was to real. Easily my favorite basketball podcast 💯
Please bring part 3.
The best player interview ever conducted.
This whole time i didn't even know Josiah's dad was Marques Johnson.
rip reggie harding
He was my favorite player. As he said in his book, "he had vaseline on his reflexes", he was so smooth. One of my partners in the Army was from Racine, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee. He told me M.J. had the ladies on both arms when he came into the clubs.
Marques is a legend. Should've been rookie of the year over Otis Birdsong. MJ's memory is incredible! Kareem did break his hand on that much deserved Benson punch.
The Reggie stories he told them were Legendary 😂😂😂
“Alright two more questions”
Chris Mullin was also efficient. Dude shot 50.8 percent from 2 for his career and 38 percent from 3. Marques shot 51 percent so they were both efficient. However Mullin got him on the threes cuz he marques was at 15 percent.
@DeeNice681

Your right about the threes. Though if Nelson would have used Johnson as more of a slashing big guard, he scores 25 to 30 a night. Just too big, fast, athletic, and s good ball handler for other 2 guards!

His point wasn't Mullin wasn't efficient, but no one EVER asked Mullin to do less or be less great

😂😂😂 Man… the story is decades true lmfao Shout out the great Junior Bridgemann from East Chicago, IN . Traded for Kareem and how Cap got to LA… And a Wendy’s conglomerate!
Was he on All The Smoke also?
Gil said how much was the fine 40 bucks??? I laughed super hard at that.
Some really great stories from a great player! I hope you laced em up tight like coach told you to! Blisters on a basketball player are no good. During my time in Seattle Benoit Benjamin was traded to the Sonics. And 90% of the time he was absolutely worthless.
Most Ball Players in Detroit know the Reggie Harding story. Marcus was very accurate about the events.... Yes, that's a true story....
7'0 250-65 another big Wilt played against...not a punk
So Benoit was as listless as he appeared as a fan...notoriously looked sorry and like he was half assing it...wild the kind of numbers he still put up...didn't realize it, but in a league where Bigs were stars it was sorry...if he was around now he'd be prime DeAndre Jordan type paid
Dudes son is so strange. Laugh so loud then throw on a Kanye face immediately after.

Kareem should've been a boxer..... Who knew🤔

Marques spoke about the Kareem Sucker punch on Kent Benson. Of course, an elbow is not nice and wrong. They happen. One can say that such is part of the game. I do not justify them. However, what Kareem did was cowardly and evil. Kareem came up behind Benson -- and Marques admits that he heard it, it was so violent -- and cracked Benson's skull in the face as he stealthily approached Benson from behind. Speak the truth -- Kareem's action was the most low grade act I have ever seen in basketball. But it is Kareem. If anyone gets preferential treatment it is Kareem Marques whines about Benson being white. Guess what? Kareem is not white. And he got away with almost killing a player. Again, I do not justify what Benson did. However, that does not justify what Kareem did. And one of the fellows jokes that the fine was "$40". The colloquy manifests that these guys admit that Kareem got away with murder with nary a repercussion. Kareem could have killed the guy. Furthermore, Kareem, the coward, did a similar act to Dan Schayes. He jumped on him from behind on something that had nothing to do with Kareem. Schayes was struggling with Magic. And Kareem jumps on Schayes -- FROM BEHIND . And that is what he did to Benson -- he punched him in the face when Benson was not even looking. (The point is that he attacks people from behind) And Kareem got away with it. Kareem has a pattern of being a coward. Very sad. Kareem was a great player, for sure. And that is why he got away with acts that manifest low character and cowardliness. Benson did not get a preference -- Kareem did. Kareem is a coward. So much for the chatterbox talk about Benson being white. He is. He received no special treatment -- Kareem did.
Great player didn't pass the ball
Gilbert ball hog there wasn't a shot this man didn't like
Great episode
