Mark Manson Answers Questions On Happiness

You asked what I thought about happiness and I answered.
To celebrate what’s been an awesome year on the channel, I thought I’d throw it to you guys to see if you wanted anything in particular answered by me. Majority of the 350 responses I had were questions on happiness. I had everything from happiness, productivity and education, to my thoughts on Jordan Peterson, book recommendations and a few clues as to when I’m launching a new book.
Always looking for new questions to answer, so chuck yours in the comments. But only after you like the video and subscribe to the channel, then I’ll owe you.

I admire your ability to think for yourself, I feel like a lot of people gravitate towards extremes these days and let themselves get heavily influenced by people they look up to to the point that they have no opinion of their own and therefore not much to stand for. I have been noticing that in my field(visual arts) as well whenever teachers give you critiques for guidance, but the way they deliver it makes you feel a certain way and either you take it too seriously or disregard it completely... I think it's important for people to take a step back and think about what their values are and being more selective about the information they gather.

OMG! I finally hear someone saying they get bored and annoyed with routines and like working on different times of the day, and do whatever they feel like between their "active" times of the day. I've been struggling with this for a few years now, since I became a full-time freelance translator, specialising in audiovisual content localisation. I just need to make good use of my time, and feel like wasting it when I try to force myself to work like I would in a 9 am to 5 pm job. Creativity doesn't work like that... What a relief 😍

I've been really enjoying your videos. Re: Education. As an ESL teacher in Indonesia having been raised in Canada, secondary and university education in any western country is way beyond anything available in Indonesia where it is marred by favoritism, nepotism and - at times - corruption. So for the most part, it doesn't matter how good a student you are or if you just need more support you are not going to rank higher than the teacher's pet or cousin or those with a pocket full of cash. Western ed values individual excellence. My students - even adults - are amazed that I consider my students' successes, my success instead of using my position of power as a way to belittle any student who makes a mistake.

I truly appreciate your content and loved your book. It was my Christmas present to most of my friends. I just would like to say though that anxiety can be much more for some people. It is debilitating and by saying that you have to push through can be triggering for some. It implies that you are not doing enough when in fact people with anxiety issues are living in pain.

It's true but I believe he is or was an anxious person as well. I'm an anxious person and have been treated with more care than other people sometimes and that encourages you tonor push yourself harder, and sometimes you DO need that but also rest when u need it.

My daughter recommended your book to me years ago, and I ignored her to my dismay. I am so glad you have a YT channel. I'll make sure my daughter knows about your site in case she's unaware of it (hard to imagine though).
