I think Mathews deserves the Hart. Mathews destroys Mack in faceoffs, hits, blocks, defensive contributions. Mack and Kuch both have twice as many giveaways as Mathews. Kuch is +11 while Mathews and Mack are +35 now I think. You can't tell me that 34-38 secondary assists and Kuch leading the league in empty net points is more valuable to the team over goals. Mathews might finish the season with more even strength goals than Mack has total goals. Not to mention Mack has way more average ice time, obviously he'll have more points. Mathews MVP, shouldn't be a hard vote. Hope the voters aren't ignorant. Mathews era adjusted stats put him almost right there with Gretsky in the 80s. We'll probably never see 70 goals in a season again. We'll see 100 assists though, not as difficult. Also, Mathews can play with anybody and still score. Way more versatile.

Lol we'll see 100 assists again because it's not as difficult you say ? Only 3 players has ever got 100 assists and the last person to do it was Lemieux, so who do you think will get 100 assists next as you so assuredly think it will happen again because it's not as difficult to do as you say

I agree…matthews is a way better defensive center than mcdavid, we can’t ignore mcdavid is leagues ahead of any player in the nhl skill speed etc…but 69 goals as a center has only been done by the greats. Gotta respect matthews.

Many of your points carry weight. Mack having more average ice-time is a pro for Mack though not Matthews. It does make Matthews production somewhat more impressive in relation to his ice time but carries absolutely no positive weight in the Hart conversation. Those voters for the Hart have some very challenging decisions to make. Almost all of them will put their votes in and still be questioning themselves if they made the correct choices.

@@Mattoilers97 Because of the entirety of the story. He is by far the top goal scorer, he is significantly better defensively than the other 3 forwards in the conversation. I agree there is likely some bias from Bink here but Matthews is much more than the best goal scorer. Note he isn't the top goal scorer by a few but by 20% over next on the list and 26% more than Mack who is closest of the other 3 forwards in the convo. I know for me It is a very difficult choice to make. How much value do 100 apples have in the vote when more than one player get there? Regardless of all that we can surely conclude we've experienced an extreme level of offence this year!

It is a shame the team isn't as hungry about getting a Cup as it is about 34's personal glory.

I would like to see Toronto play Boston, there’s a huge history and that series if lost will ultimately determine the fate of shanahan and keefe and whoever else, fantasy of having inexperienced presidents, coaches and gm’s running a franchise like the leafs has been a joke for everyone.

Leafs look stronger... I noticed even Tavares man...acouple of wings in game tried to nail him and they just bounced off him. I think he will get some goals from in front. When I think back of last 5 seasons of playoffs I did not like the Leafs drive to the net. Reilly was there MVP . I think a guy like Roberston could really help them. You need to dress the most skilled guys . Guys who can also score under pressure. Yeah he's smaller but some of the greats in the game were small too and they found away. If your elete at skating and the fastest guy on the ice your size isn't that big of a deal....You just don't want your entire team to be undersized. A good balance.

Its so easy to just 2 hand someone across the wrists and make it look like an accident. I want 70, but I honestly do have a bad feeling about Florida. The Sportsmanship in me says nothing will happen, but then again it's Paul and the Panthers, anything could happen.

If Mathews plays the last two games, it will be because the injuries have made it impossible to beat Florida in round one.

For the first half-hour it was 100% "Sit Matthews!!!...Eddy Shore!!!...Old Time Hockey!!!"...then old Burkie slammed the brakes on that and the boys jumped on the "70 goals is special" train. Hope nobody got whip-lash from flipping so fast.
