Agree 1000%. Degrees do not equate to evaluated experiences. My experiences and my mentors at a major hospital gave me more education than the MBA. Great video.

It's a tough call.. I bailed on college to start getting focused in the industry and began getting certifications right away. I've been arguably successful.. but (almost 30 years later) that lack of formal university degree still haunts me sometimes. There are many companies that still require this.

Would you say that you’re successful 30 years later because you’ve gained and used the skill set…for 30 years?

@@learnkaizen Yes and no.. I've always done all right.. but I feel like I've always had to scrape and work harder than the next guy. Working in IT, tech skills I would have gotten in college 30 years ago are not likely to be much help these days. I definitely kept building real world experience. However, there are still companies that won't talk to me without the piece of paper.

In the area of work I'm in - it's more about proving metric based value improvements...now, I'll never know if I'm landing roles simply because my competition who may be interviewing in the next room - doesn't have a degree. I do know that many companies looking for folks in my line of work PREFER a degree. However, many well known companies also state on the job description "WILL ACCEPT YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN LIEU OF DEGREE" because many folks in my line of work may have saved millions of dollars for companies but only have certifications. I think businesses don't want to miss out one great candidates simply because they didn't have a degree. Neither of my parents had degrees...I remember hearing my dad say many times he wished he had gotten his degree....especially as he moved up the ladder....I'm not sure if it helps him back in reality - but it may have in his mind. He's retired now and loving it! 😊 Thanks for responding and supporting the channel. Not sure if you're a subscriber but would love to have you as one! Thanks again!🙏

@@learnkaizen yep.. I'm seeing the 'years of experience ' pop up more. If you can get a person it's better. Big companies might eliminate you with an algorithm before you get a chance to show your value. Anyway, we keep learning and moving forward :) thanks for the great content!

gotta be kidding college makes you focus on many subjects at once rather thaan focusing on tthe maajor you should be must faster than uni graads find aa great menttor thats the best start

I started this membership. Unfortunately, I had to stop because I couldn't keep up with the membership site and Kaizen Expert Masterclass. With raising 3 Kids, traveling for work 75% of the time and keeping up with this channel and the Kaizen Expert Masterclass - I had to drop something....Apologies.
