    I think folks are going back to the way it used to be...like homemade..cooking from scratch..making your own mixes..and bread because it's cheaper and healthier. Thanks for sharing happy to see young folks getting interested in cooking at home .

    A vacuum sealer will change your life! It helps save so much space and doubles if not triples the life of your foods. My freezers are full of vacuum sealed meats.

    I write the instructions on a post it note and put it on the lid. If you put a ring on it stays perfectly. If not, I tape to the side of the jar and just reuse the same jar for the same thing. I make all my baking mixes in the cupboard like that. I do corn bread, muffins, scones and more and just refill but I would love to add rice mixes to the pantry. Thanks for the great recipes.

    I’m really glad to get these recipes! Thank you! I noticed you didn’t put rings on the jars you vacuumed. I have heard we should store vacuum sealed jars with the rings. That way, if the seal breaks the vacuum is still in tact until the ring comes off. 😊

    I don’t store with rings so I can see if it comes unsealed just like ones you process in the canners. Everyone does it differently. That’s how I store mine. The ring can just give a false seal so you don’t know if it comes unsealed or not.

    Really great idea I prefer Rice a Roni Spanish rice that you add the you add the can of tomatoes I Iike the one with peppers and onions. I think the French onion soup would be good if you take out the salt and add the powdered beef bullion. I love the dehydrated veggies I buy them and I also dry whatever leftover ones I have but I have the onion and celery always one hand in bulk and a dried soup mix that works great in soup and broth.

    When i make dried foods like this I always put the instructions in the jar just in case I end up giving a jar to someone. That way I don't have to look for the instructions and take the time to write it down for them. My grandkids are always raiding my pantry to this makes it easier on me to just give them a jar and they are on their way.

    I haven’t broke down the cost, but I would say no. I’d say it would be more to make it yourself, but if you already keep those ingredients on hand It’s “extra”. A lot of people like these style videos because you aren’t adding all the extra additives compared to the packaged foods.

    When you use the vacumn seal attachment do you ever add like the food silica packet ? Or their is no need to i want to do pasta in jars but didnt knownif i need to add the packet it in there ? Thanks

  • @SouthernWifeEverydayLife

    No, you are taking out all the air, so it doesn’t need anything. If you don’t vacuum seal you can add o2 packets and it does the same as vacuum sealing. The o2 packets take out the oxygen in the jar to keep them fresh. But you would need to replace them very often if you are opening and closing the jars. Food silica packets are not the same as o2 packets. Silica packets absorb moisture not air. Hope that helps!

    I really love your channel! I'm not sure that making the rice sides would really save me money. I would have to buy many of the ingredients needed. Those Knorr packages are inexpensive. However, I do enjoy the concept and watching. As for as the bread cubes, Pepperidge Farms makes bread cubes. They come in a clear bag. Usually find it alot around the holidays. Might be a good idea to look for that brand this holiday season and put those up for your family to have during the next year.

    You are right. Price probably would be more unless you already keep those ingredients on hand then you would just be making “extras” with what you had. A lot of people like watching and making stuff like this homemade because you aren’t adding all the extra “additives” to the homemade versions like what’s in the prepackaged ones.

    If you regularly buy the Knorr sides, in the long run it would probably be cheaper to buy a bag of rice and break up spaghetti noodles and throw in some spices and bouillon. Would probably work out to cheaper in the long run and as a by product, you have rice and spaghetti and bouillon and spices to be used in a multitude of other recipes and sides

    I am new to this process. How do you open the jar that you sealed when ready to use? What is the shelf life of the contents in the jar? Do you write any information on the lid of the jar? Thank you.

  • @SouthernWifeEverydayLife

    @SouthernWifeEverydayLife

    2 ай бұрын

    Shelf life depends on what you are storing. 6 months to a year. I write what it is on the jar then have the instructions in my notebook. I check the seals weekly to make sure they are all still properly sealed. If you store them with a ring you can’t see if it’s come unsealed, that’s why I vacuum seal and store with no rings. You just pop the lid off with an opener. If it’s something you don’t use all of you can clean the rim and reseal it. I reuse lids for vacuum sealing jars. If you have other questions let me know!
