Welcome to our channel. All the weapon systems are like books. They tell us their stories. The Weapon Detective investigates these books, reads between the lines, analyses, and tells the untold. At the dawn of the Second Cold War, the fruits of new projects give us clues about the future. But current weapon systems also have their own stories. You can find in our videos technical information, historical backgrounds, what happened during the development processes, combat experience and political projection. Let's investigate the weapons together when the Second Cold War is rising.

They would be useless in a NBC, chemical environment and the crew is not well protected agianst counter battery fire. Range of the gun would be good I'd say but it looks very similar to the Russian 2S7 Pion SPG.

As far as I have heard from the military people, the most important aspect of a weapon is its' functionality. If the weapon works and is reliable, it can be useful for some scenarios. So, these two artillery pieces may help North Koreans if necessary.

The gun does not need a fume extractor. They are only meant for enclosed turrets to mitigate gases from entering the turret during reloading.

The ongoing war in Ukraine has made most current military theories lest to say "questionable," artillery guided by drones, thick Air Defense, drones (of all kinds), long-distance placement of mines.... all who study military history and try to keep up with modern systems must be be very careful if we try to paint something "obsolete" or even "unbeatable" in modern conflict.

well said , thats the biggest issue why ukraine war is still going on and is stagnating . Both sides know how to improvise and make obsolete weapon system still relevant.

It can be argued that artillery guided by drones is something revolutionary, because now the artillery can hit accurately in indirect fire even individual moving vehicles. Before this war, I don't know if any military thinker, was ever considering that artillery could even be that accurate, especially with unguided projectiles. Another thing seen in Ukraine, is that the concentration of forces for the attack is extremely hard and risky, mainly because of the accuracy of the artillery, forcing both sides to make offensive actions with quite small military units, which struggle to make a breakthrough in prepared defensive lines

Nowaday North Korea have tons of alternative solution for Koksan. They have 600 mm KN 25 IRBM and 300 mm MLRS. In the operational fire support mission they have 155 mm SPG which seems like a direct copy from Chinese one. So Koksan will soon end its service to be replaced by a new generation of North Korean artillery system.

Slow to move. Slow to emplace. Slow to fire. Slow to relocate. Pretty much meant as a one-shot pony or fixed-emplacement howitzer. One problem with fixed.emplacements is that not only are they easy to find, you don't have to actually destroy them to make them useless. Essentially, these aren't anything to sneeze at, but they are 1980's tech (at best) designed to fight WW2.

South Korea's technological advantage in the field of artillery has begun to appear weaker based on recent developments. NK recently released a new SPG model in 155mm caliber, it is said to be based on an Iranian design and can be considered their answer to K9 Thunder. And certainly North Korea's rocket artillery technology is proving better than its opponents in the South, at least for the next few years.

Like many North Korean projects, little is known about it, even if it's based on Iranian Raad, the SPG itself was based on an old M109.
