I think he was giving more of the spotlight to the lead singer of lynyrd skynyrd out of respect. After all it is their song.

Timeless Song....I am grateful to my father (rest in peace) for playing me this song over 20 years ago. Today it is still one of my absolute favorite songs.

Seeing Brent cleaned up and living his best life all these years later...certainly a better performer because of it; What a legend.

Myself and another buddy played an acoustic rendition of this amazing tune at our friends funeral. I will cherish that moment for as long as I’m alive on this Earth. I can’t listen to this without getting emotional. Every single time. RIP Robby.

This is the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. It hits me directly between the eyes for if I could have only listened to my mother when I was young I would have saved us both a lot of pain….but I had to chase those good times down and that’s where they took me. After seeing her husband drink himself to death and her only son almost do the same year’s later somehow grace entered my life and gave me a gift…. That gift was desperation and it saved my life …it brought me to my knees long enough to reach out and ask for help and to that place where I could receive it…. We are never alone….I can never forgive myself for what I put her through but at least she saw me get sober…. I am brought to tears every time I hear this song….God Bless …that … Simple Man…

As a young kid, born 73, i thought this was one of the greatest songs ive ever heard as a little kid. Brent smith singing this has my approval.

Grew up hearing this,sang it to my son when he was a baby… this song will always hold a place in my heart… I love that Brent got the chance to do it with Skynyrd.

It's heartwarming to see after 3.04 and 3.18 this young girl with father. This means Lynyrd Skynyrd will live forever. ❤

Since long years like a lot Lynyrd Skynyrd... In the early 80's, the Miami Vice tv series had a song that was That Smell... Like and at the end of the episode the name of the band.. And it was simple as that.. 🙂🙃🎸 Allman Brothers to, the great Tom Petty knew before.. Southern accents.. USA Southern Rock is wonderful.. In Europe almost nobody knows or knew this bands, except maybe Tom Petty.. Strickly thousands of concerts in USA on their tours, nothing in Europe... Except ZZ Top.. Regards from Portugal

What a nod of respect for the artistry between each. in their own right.

In the mid nineties my mother took me to see Skynyrd, i didn't really want to go because I'm more into metal and rock but i went anyway. I'm glad she took me now, it was a very good show.

Amazing sound , strong voices , Bret was spot on , this band will be so missed it’s not funny , I hope they re group down the track and do a special , very special and bring Brett in again and do a 2 hour beast of a concert, it will pack the venues out , absolute Champions

I've seen them play this live three times. It was 92,99&2006. The last time they had 3 Doors Down opened up for them and they put on one hell of a concert.

I've seen shinedown 17 times since 2003 there is not a better musian on this planet, and being the very humbled human being he is, he still sings this cover even tho he hates doing Covers
