Mariah and Luther are great Collaborators!! They never try to outshine anybody they collab with but just do what they're good at!!

This version is the only one Luther had. It came from his 1994 album of covers of his favorite classics. Mariah was the one who suggested they do EL. It was a big hit that year and is actually one of Mariah's #2 singles on the Billboard Hot 100. Yep, she's known for her 19 #1s but she also has a slew of #2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, etc. The almost-#1s would have put her over The Beatles' record 20 #1s if they just took that one extra step lol, and she only needed 2 more. Haha. This was performed at London's Royal Albert Hall I think while he was doing the tour for the album, which AFAIK also ended up being his own career best-seller. Mariah's look was utter perfection, from that elegant black gown to her romantic hair, etc. This period was the peak in her own career. It was the year after Music Box became her biggest album, eventually selling 32 million worldwide. She then released her classic Merry Christmas album later that year and it is now also the bestselling Xmas album ever and it contained, of course, her classic Xmas song that became her 19th #1 on its 25th anniversary.

That’s definitely coming!

The reason you might not have heard Mariah on this track before is because it’s cover! It was originally written and recorded by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross in the early 1980’s! But my favorite and the more popular one is Mariah and Luthers, a truly love song classic!

This song is a cover of the original performed by Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross. There is also a version of Lionel Ritchie and Shania Twain that is quite wonderful itself. There is a mini documentary where Lionel brings Shania out to his home and gets her out of her shell after a long hiatus from the music business. Definitely check that out.
