Marcia Lucas the editor of the original Star Wars trilogy has come out and dropped a nuke on Disney’s Sequel Trilogy. Aiming squarely at Kathleen Kennedy and J.J. Abrams and their lack of understanding. Sadly for Rian Johnson, Marcia doesn’t know he exists. And as expected, the weirdo’s are not happy. In the words of Marcia Lucas “It Sucks!”. So gather around Man Babies, this news is hilarious.

    Yeah, I mean Leia is beloved by star wars fans world wide for being a brave, fearless leader of the rebellion. She even gave Darth frickin Vader the middle finger by telling him of like a child and kicked some major ass both as a competent leader and on the front line. And despite that, those retards still call the OT fans mysogynists. And if all fails, they allways bring up the slave outfit. I mean, did anyone of those idiots even watch the OT? Leia was put into that outfit by Jabba. It was a design choice that ultimately served in showing Jabbas utter lack of respect for others beings and especially slaves. It was never depicted as something positive and only served in making people hate Jabba for what he did to our beloved rebel hero. Which made the satisfaction of her killing him even better. THAT is how you write a strong female character. Rey sKyWaLkEr is not. And don't get me started on Holdo....

Sometimes by taking over the spaces that men typically occupy. Being in those spaces is fine if its authentic and natural. But I think often times its coming from the wounding and false beliefs, which leads to mis-creations.

    funny how that works! the movie series didn't actually need a continuation because _it already ended!_ the bad guys are dead and/or redeemed, the good guys have prevailed and there is hope in the galaxy once again. the only thing there could feasibly be a good sequel for is Luke's new Jedi order/Leia's leadership as the empire is destroyed and the republic reinstated. it's done. it's over. Star Wars didn't NEED a crappy re-do of the ot. we didn't need a new hope against an evil state looking for galactic domination. we didn't need to kick every character in the nuts and reverse their character development. why did the sequels even go in that direction?

George mentioned that the Empire was made to show parallels to Nazis. If you’re referring to the rebels being like the Afghan rebels fighting against the USSR, that happened several years after he made the OT so that doesn’t make sense. Plus even if that was the case, that in turn wouldn’t make George a leftist at all as he based the enemy off of a leftist regime (the USSR). If you knew your basic history and facts, you’d know that most if not all leftist beliefs and policies are the exact same as the USSR and Nazi’s.

    Yes!! Phenomenal point. It was just yesterday that I was watching the different videos that document Sylvester Stallone's re-working of Rocky IV. And I made the point that there is something refreshing when you listen to Stallone as he admits that he made some mistakes with the original R IV. He isn't so egotistical and prideful that he can't stand to defend the issues that have bothered him over the years. He admits his shortcomings regarding the film, and instead of feeling sorry for himself or pointing his finger at others, he owns his responsibility, learns from it, and uses it as motivation to make R IV better, and, as Stallone has said himself, the pandemic gave him the free time to work on Rocky IV: Rocky vs. Drago (that will have a special one night release on November 11). Kathleen Kennedy and friends could learn a lesson here, admit that mistakes were made while making the sequel trilogy, and then try and do something about it...i.e. try to make the films better (although I'm not really sure how they'd accomplish that). However, I'm sure that Hell would have to freeze over, thaw out, freeze over again (giving a snowball a chance in Hell), resulting in the death of the flying pigs that flew out of Satan's ass, all while people celebrated during the holiday called the first of never. Maybe I should have saved some time and just simply used the last word of the previous sentence to convey my point.

    Not only do I not treat the sequel trilogy as non-canon, but also some of the live-action shows. I want a world in which Luke successfully restarts the Jedi Order and popular characters like Rex and Ahsoka aren't just forgotten about. It's a crime we didn't even get a reunion with Han, Luke, and Leia! Instead of the First Order being Empire 2.0, a much more creative antagonist, along with characters who get actual development, should be used. And keep the theme much more positive. The original trilogy ended on a high note and had a positive tone throughout, as good triumphed over evil; the sequels basically erased everything that happened in that trilogy and somehow resulted in us being back to square one.

STAR WARS didn't start as an empty fantasy only. There were politics, rebellion, Luke struggling as a young man with his family, grief, temptation to use the easy path ( DARK SIDE = VIOLENCE and TYRANT ) The choice of building bridges with the ones we love but are in conflict and helping them to see the light. ( Luke and Vader ) So you see. Reality is what makes great movies, great movies. It is not because of reality that the ST sucks so damn much, but because of lack of understanding or respect for the franchise. Take the top 2 IMDB movies by vote. The Shawshank Redemption and The Godfather Both deal with very real things. If you are too young or weak to deal with reality, stick with Harry Potter and LOTR by all means. It's not even killing off Luke, Han, and Lea that was the issue, it is _how_ they killed them off. Han basically walks straight into his death, and the other two essentially die by getting too tired. Their deaths don't really accomplish anything either. It doesn't help that the new cast of charicters isn't very good. Finn is the one that really had potential, but then they didn't use it. Rey felt like a video game charicter: a mostly blank slate for the player to insert theirself into.

    Leia I get because Carrie Fisher passed so anything other than what they did would be impossible to pull off without the creepy CGI uncanny face, but I see your point about the other two even I personally didn’t mind how Han or Luke died. Han went in to try and get his son back, which I found really powerful even if it didn’t work (until later). Luke was always going to be controversial because there was no way they could please people in a way where he goes in thematically great way and one where we get badass OP Luke from legends. It’s the same thing that people experienced when the prequels came out. People for years saw Darth Vader as this mysterious figure who probably had a super badass backstory, then when the prequels actually came out there was absolutely no possible way the movie could satisfy what people built Vader’s past to be. So I’m not really mad that Luke was a hermit, it was better to set the bar low than try to actually live up to the hype (look what happen with Mary Poppins Leia). It gives the film more longevity because when all this hate and anger cools down over the years (like it did with the prequels) people will begrudgingly realize that there was no way to live up to what he was built up as over the years, even if the execution was meh.

  • @tubetorpedo

    @tubetorpedo

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@cantthinkofaname5046 There was no huge problems in base elements of Vaders origin story itself, it was the general execution, bad dialogue etc. that affected prequels as a whole. Those movies were not totally stupid or ruined, just mostly disappointing because they had more potential and quite interesting world. Lucas seemed more interested about green screen and CGI than refining character and story elements which in the end are the most interesting elements of those stories, instead of latest visual candy which looked dated not long after those movies came out. Seeing Yoda twirling from wall to wall like a slinky in washing machine is really not that interesting in the end, most long action scenes were just boring. E.g. Marcia Lucas really seems to have better grasp of that side of storytelling and what is actually important and compelling to the audience. The actual badass phase of Vader started at that point when prequels ended so they could hardly even ruin that. Luke on the other hand e.g. would have been somewhat easy to safe just by making him end himself in blaze of glory instead of being too tired of that astral projection. (Not that it made sense to him to go and live as a hermit while leaving map of his location behind in the first place.) There were several easy ways to end the stories of those old timers but all were wasted. Problem in Disney's version in many parts seemed to be internal politics and indifference towards the story while they have big wallet to pull all kinds of tricks if needed. They did not try to tell compelling story but directors mostly ticked boxes in sheet created by committee. They planned a trilogy but clearly did not even have general story arch in mind and locked down in advance, but e.g. Johnson could just go and create his solo movie in middle of trilogy. But at least JJ Abrams had his famous mystery boxes, how that worked out for Lost? xD First movie was rehash of New Hope so there was no originality, and they clearly had agenda to push down any old characters no matter how popular they were (e.g. R2D2) because Disney did not get full royalties from those.

    The problem with 7,8, and 9, is they introduced a bunch of characters with no backstory, and you had to figure out what they were doing there and why. Lucas' 2nd trilogy, from the early 2000s, suffered, in part, from this; but, because he knew exactly where he was going (he had the events of the first trilogy in front of him), he was able to tie it all up satisfactorily. The makers of this last trilogy had no real idea where they were going. They were making it all up and improvising as they went along.

    At least with the prequels. The lore is kept mostly intact. How things work, how it all fits together. It’s all actually fleshed out a lot more. Even with bad script, some bad acting and all that it still manages to bring a lot more depth to this galaxy far far away. Which also gave rise to some of the best Star Wars we have ever gotten based on the prequel time period such as the clones wars and a lot of legends stuff. Basically what I’m trying to say is the prequels stayed within the Star Wars universes lore. The sequels threw all lore out the window which is what annoyed so many.

    Originally in the finale of A New Hope, the rebels just fly off to battle the Death Star somewhere in space. It was Marcia Lucas’s brilliant idea in the editing room to have the Death Star attempting to destroy Yavin 4 to raise the stakes and suspense. She took a lot of footage of Peter Cushing during the Alderaan destruction scene and re-worked it for the Battle of Yavin. She is one of the biggest reasons why Star Wars turned out larger-than-life.

    Same here. But it would at least be nice if the fans could expand on SW. Lucas was proud of the fact that SW fans expanded on the SW universe with new books and ideas. Lucas was encouraging the fans. Disney, on the other hand, is barely allowing SW based themes on secular KZread channels.

    I grew up living, dreaming, cheerleading all things star wars, even the campy holiday special. I had xwings and the falcon painted on my celling as a kid, my friends and I played 'star wars' in the late 70's instead of 'army or cowboys and Indians', as soon as West End Games came out with a SW RPG we played in the 'galaxy far, far, away' for countless hours. I bought ever novel that is now called 'legends'. SW was the first three movies I bought for my first VCR and then I played them constantly, even falling asleep with them playing. Then Disney bought the franchise. I had high hopes for a resurgence in all things SW. Lo though, did I fail to understand that the House of Mouse is thick with the dark side; it's sith leader coming in the guise of a smiling women claiming to have a vision. And that vision not only worked to morph the franchise into something...something horrible, it also actually achieved it in most accounts. The Force Awakens came and I watched. I visibly cringed when Rey damaged the Falcon. I thought that the movie had potential, yet there was something; some unease in the Force that I couldn't identify but I put it down to new ideas and new faces, willing to give into the benefit of doubt. Rogue One came out and I thought, 'now here's a good SW movie'. One that felt like the SW I grew up with and knew well. That feeling of relief was shattered when The Last Jedi premiered. It felt 'wrong', somehow. 'Stupid' was my second thought, then true horror seeped in. I understood. This Kennedy lady's plan was to corrupt the franchise; turn it into some social platform for right wrongs done to her as a young girl or something. Or simply that she truly, honestly, was never a SW fan, let alone understood the flavor and spirit of the franchise. It was a terrible feeling, this one. Solo came out and, despite the loads of bad press and reviews, I found that I enjoyed it and that it too, held a lot of the old magic. Perhaps there was hope yet. That hope was dashed, again, buried and defecated on in truth, by The Rise of Skywalker. Ten minutes into the movie I got up and did the thing I would never, ever have dreamed of doing as a kid, as a young adult, as an adult. I walked out and demanded a refund. To this day I have yet to finish watching that horror show. If it weren't for the plan of Kennedy, I'd have chucked it up to a pack of amateurs' who never read or watched any of Lucas' earlier works. While no excuse, ignorance is what it is. This farce of Kennedy's vision however, is intentional. Blatantly and clearly so.

Instead they really lean on the expectations of people watching the previous movies for their subversion which just pisses people off instead of moving them deeper into your show. Also for things to go wrong you want your antagonist to make something clever happen or to be stronger. For example if you look at the first half of Game of Thrones every time something goes wrong its not because of a poor choice made its because someone used the character for their own gain and outsmarted them AND PEOPLE LOVE IT. where as latter in the series everyone makes mistake affter mistake and people hate it because it feels like the smart people are now just dumb and guess what people HATED it. How do you say "no" to the man who created Star Wars, Indiana Jones, the leading most respected special effects house in the world, ILM, and THX sound systems? There was no mentions, in 6 films about the emperor having children ... The story doesn't line up ... They killed Han Solo and Luke ... The two MAIN CHARACTERS of the movie ... They should have had Luke, Han, Chewy, and Layia on the millennium falcon going to save the universe and they die in a battle and go out in glory... They disrespected the Star wars franchise... Why would Luke Skywalker tried to kill his own nephew, he wouldn't even kill Darth Vader ...
