Well someone put out the challenge that if you watched The Skywalker Legacy you couldn’t possibly be “vile” about the movies. I took that challenge. Hope everyone is staying safe. Enjoy the video and consider sharing it with all your friends and family stuck at home. Warn them they may need alcohol. Cheers!

The Clone Wars wasn't just merely better. Comparing Clone Wars to the Sequel Trilogy is like comparing Shakespeare to a 6th grade poetry slam. In other words, you can clearly tell which one was basically made overnight, and which one had several days of thought and detail put into each story, making a masterpiece over the course of years.

He apparently trusted her personally. Haven't seen direct evidence of that, but let's say it's true. Why would she hate Lucas? Only thing I can think of is that she was so jealous of his creativity/imagination, had learnt you have to brown nose higher-ups to gain clout in the industry, so then she feigned passion for his work to the point he was convinced she was for real. All just speculation, but it's interesting to think about how far a really bitter person would go if they had a lot of power and money.

These people are so delusional they think the concepts of "generations" and "mythology" seem to be unique to Disney Star Wars™ and not culture as a whole, East or West. I see it as result of a culture where everyone wants to be the FIRST or MOST INFLUENTIAL and MOST BESTEST EVARR because competition good but, to a point we have this you're either number 1, or a loser kind of thing that creeps into how products are made, and how we percieve ourselves. Lucasfilm as it stands, with its Diversity™® slant is not working to actively promote any of the values that were present in Star Wars, just ape the surface characteristics and dress it in vague sentiments of "empowerment" and "family". It's insulting that they threw out or ignored what people loved, and took this extremely rushed and chaotic route to make it barely breathing over the finish line.

I see something greater in this destructive undertaking.. I see the further beginnings of a better frame of mind, no matter how few it is. Star Wars is so many things at once, to so many people and for so many reasons, and that's just the easy mode version of it. Despite the prequels being super stupid, they weren't boring; the first trilogy we found captivating because it was many stories becoming a new one in a new way. And in every strange, wonderful, and deeply confusing side-universe book or fan film or other such tale out there, it offered even more to consider.. doesn't make them perfect, but they came from a better place, and now the biggest entertainment company in the world has struck out after 3 misses. These are more than cinematic pants-shitting moments.. these may be the beginning of a rebellion.

I've said that about all three sequel films. "In the right context that scene was cool. But it sucked in the context it was presented" if I was more invested in Rey's character, Luke wasn't shit on in TLJ, etc that would have been a really sweet ending." Just like the Death Star remains. If I had bought into the last two and a half movies it would have been pretty cool, and I might forgive the fact that the Death Star was blown to tiny pieces and there is no way in hell it would still be intact like that. Or in TLJ when Luke faced down those Gorilla Walkers. Epic scene, right up until we find out Luke isn't there, then fucking dies. So ends up being possibly the most soul crushing scene ever put to film. Oh, and in TFA when the Falcon was flying through the Star Destroyer wreckage. EPIC! Until you realize it's a chick who's never piloted a spaceship before. ( so epic they do that in every Disney SW movie except Rogue One)

It seems people wanted Luke to be this big, classic story of the hero comes and saves the day and then Luke would go back to Tatooine and look off into the sunset, but that’s not how it always works. Just my 2 cents.

The handing down of sabers part really was insightful. They knew they couldn’t make anything like what the originals were, so they shamelessly swung these old things around with the grace of a toddler, inevitably hurting itself by playing with something it should’ve been incredibly careful with. Luke received his Father’s lightsaber because it was his Father’s, he has the right to inherit it as it is but what remains of Anakin before Vader, which culminated in Vader discarding that very relic of his past in his encounter with Luke. A master doesn’t hand down their own lightsaber to a Padawan, as building one’s own lightsaber is the completion of the art’s mastery, the training is complete.

Even Rogue One depicts a galaxy wide search for enough Kyber for just the death star planet killer laser alone. Not to mention Force Heals and the skywalk legacy sacrificed at the alter of Woke.

I mean, for fans of the universe, there have been hundreds of SW stories that did not change the core story of SW - I mean, great ones, like KOTOR - and amazing characters like Thrawn (who Filoni added back in.. YES!) and Luke's would-have-been-awesome-had-they-kept-her wife, Mara Jade. (Oops! She's a woman. We must all hate her right? She wasn't consistently voted as the most favoritest non-canon character ever? Naa, couldn't be. We're all a bunch of mysognists.) Sorry, I digress. Anyhoo - yeah, had I known then, what I know now, I would have never spent any money on TFA, nor would I have bought any of the Lego sets for the kids, etc. That's where Disney is really feeling the pain. It's not just on ticket sales. I used to drop probably $1k a year on SW stuff. Now.. that's ALL done. Until they get rid of Kathleen Kennedy, (and even then, it's iffy) - I'm not spending a penny on SW.

Dexter Jettster If that were to actually be planned as a movie, a skilled team could unironically make a pretty good movie out of it. You could do a case study movie like Joker but for Rey. Reys wants and needs could reflect on how she hallucinates the Disney trilogy: her Ma-Rey Sue strength, her never-changing character, people liking her as she has always wanted, her coincidentally meeting all these “legends” and experiencing their story in her eyes (a way to explain the ripoffs and “fan service” from the OT), she gets stuff wrong because she just knows stories (like the Death Star being Starkiller Base, the screwy tactics, the broken rules in space and in the Force), etc. And then there could be some spark of hope at the end of some sort - depending on what the message of the movie would be. It could be a physical spark of hope that someone arrives that “calls her to adventure.” It could be an internal understanding or becoming content by doing your best with what you have. Honestly, I want someone to make this movie. I wanna see how it would turn out.

That's just Hollywood in a nutshell. Money laundering is the only explanation for how movie budgets have ballooned out of proportion over the past few decades. The original Star Wars was made on $11M, that's some $47M today. Four times less than any modern blockbuster and that typically doesn't even cover the marketing costs. Where does all this additional money go to? The paychecks? There really ain't that many A-list actors involved in these movies. CGI also should significantly reduce costs, that's the reason why Hollywood refuses to return to practical effects that look more realistic, because animatronics are expensive. And yet the budgets are still ginormous.

  • @DaMaster012

    @DaMaster012

@@yarpen26 Filming in general is also more expensive to do, given all the red tape surrending the process, especially in Commifornia. The one surefire why to bring any form of production to a grinding halt is to get government involved. I had no idea that the original Star Wars was made on such a small budget. Adjusted for the abyssal devaluation of currency (erroneously referred to as "inflation"), that's about as much money as _Joker_ was made on. And while I enjoy the film immensely, _Joker_ is hardly the special effects extravaganza that _Star Wars_ is. Also, I've known for years that socialist shit weasel Woodrow Wilson selling out the entire economy of the United States to a private bank (The Federal Reserve) to fund his fledgling warmongering fantasies and the treasonist Richard Nixon taking it off the gold standard has made the dollar a worthless currency, the value of which is nothing more than a lie agreed upon by billions of people, but it's been a while since I've been hit with a Saturday morning slap in the face like seeing that the dollar of 2020 has less than one-forth of the value it had a mere forty years ago. Shit's fucked beyond all unfucking. I give us no more than ten years, closer to about seven or eight, until the entire planet's economy implodes with all the gentle grace of a supergiant going supernova. Start stocking up on enough water, non-perishable food, and medical supplies to last you and your loved ones for at least a decade and start arming yourself with enough guns to arm a whole platoon, because comparing what's coming to this Leftist's police state trial run in response to an escaped communist Chinese bioweapon is going to be like comparing a boring weekend to the storming of Omaha Beach.

Laughably wrong about this being unique to Star Wars mythology (although the treatment could be), but she isn’t wrong to say that family is a big part of star wars. So is bad vs evil, the dangers of populism, the dangers of fear, etc. These aren’t all central themes, but they are part of Star Wars, deliberately so, and in regard to family, this theme is why it was called the skywalker saga before Disney put their greasy hands on the franchise, because it was a saga about the skywalker family, even if Anakin was the most important character in this family, in some respect.

@@darthbane3937 aren't they the grand kids of Anakin and Palpatine though? It depends whos grand children you're talking about. It's a real time sequel based on the number of years past the OT and the last jedi kinda screwed that up. The last franchise to pull off step by step continuity was back to the future, but every star wars up until then was years gone by. Rian doesn't get how these stories work, if he would have jumped ahead a little it might have worked better. Everyone criticizes JJ for bringing back the emperor, but that is not a new concept for star wars lore, the EU has done it before also and it was well received by fans at the time. I don't think that was the real problem for this past movie, it's fine with me to bring him back. What bothered me was all the unused plot points and severe lack of direction and cohesive vision. There must be a better cut version out there somewhere and someone needs to explore what was in them. I'll bet that the entire final order fleet was a last minute addition, they just put a big gun on a regular star destroyer and copy paste it in endlessly. I don't think that was the original plan.

My idea of threepio wasn't that he was the narrator. It was that he, and more importantly artoo, was the audience. They were the witnesses of it all. Like those two guys in that movie that Lucas took (a lot of) inspiration from. I forget the name, but it was some samurai movie or something, with two peasants who don't really want to get involved, but are there to witness the whole thing, just like the audience. But I believe Lucas said that artoo was the audience. I just took it that they both were, especially in the original trilogy. And that's a good thing about great movies, that you can take them how you want. And enjoy them in your own way sort of thing.

@Gaius Wyrden I saw all the movies in the cinema on their first run. Except for the original run of star wars. I was only like three years old. But I saw empire, and I saw jedi, and I saw new hope on a second run. And I mostly loved the prequel movies. Apart from episode 1 being ruined by Jar Jar and that poor kid who played Anakin. I really really liked those movies. Because I (and actually most original trilogy fans I know who watched them back in the early 80's) understood what to expect from the prequels. I knew they were going to be political. Because we were wanting to see how the old republic worked, and how it fell. And of course politics had to be a big part of that. Literally the only things I didn't like about those movies was Jar Jar (who could have been good, but was just way too over-used in episode 1, and far too over the top), young Anakin (mostly for his cheesy and terrible dialogue), and that the final turn of Anakin into Vader felt very rushed. Like at one minute he's saying a very heartfelt goodbye to Obi Wan, his brother, his mentor, his only real family at that point, and at the next he lops off Mace Windu's arm without much warning. And then he just slaughters a LOT of children. Just too rushed. Other than that, the prequels are great. Some cheesy dialogue throughout, sure. But they delivered exactly what I wanted really. I wanted to see jedi at the height of their powers, lots of lightsabers, clone wars, the politics of the old republic and the fall of Anakin Skywalker and how Luke and Leia ended up separated. I got everything I wanted, and was surprised at how they came for the most part. Which was awesome

muskatDR Should have listened to George. Colin Trevorrow would have made a great Episode IX if he wasn’t fired. We even see Abrams/Terrio writing the script on the fly during filming. Rian Johnson did some reshoots but he did not change a huge chunk of the script midway towards filming. Makes me think that “I am Iron Man” line coming from Rey was copied from Endgame and added during July or Oct-Nov 2019 reshoots

vsGoliath Anyway, what the sequel trilogy didn’t do was innovative like what George Lucas did. Looking at the prequels, it follows their own story while connecting to the original trilogy. Lucas stated that Sheev was dead in Episode VI. And 1 to 6 is Anakin from an 8 year old slave to an evil ruler who dies of sacrifice.

Cause Rey didn't earn the victory of killing him. Anakin did. I'll admit I don't really care for the whole Prophecy nonsense Lucas tacked onto Vader for the Prequels, but even if you ignore that aspect, Anakin was built up and clearly earned the right of killing the Emperor. Palpatine had been manipulating and grooming Anakin's fall to Dark Side as early as Episode I (''we will watch your career with great interest''), eventually turning him completely by Episode III. Had him betray and murder his friends and everything he once stood for as a Jedi which also cost him his body and own wife whom he had sacrificed everything from the start to save. Serving for the next 20 so years of his life as essentially Palpatine's slave. Then through the love and hope of his son is able to see the light again and sacrifice his life to destroy the Emperor. This is what used to be known in storytelling as a "arc". Having Rey be the one to kill old Sheev, literally makes Anakin's entire story completely meaningless. This would be like if they made a follow up to Harry Potter and Voldemort for unexplained and stupid reasons just returns, kills Harry and it's up to some other asshat we never heard of be the one to take him down for really real. Or if Sauron just came back despite the Ring being destroyed and it's up to his daughter that we never knew he had be the one destroy him for real.

@wally noname Hate to break it to you, but it was the fans that caused him to sell to Disney. Think about it, for nearly 10 years he had to hear about how much people HATED the PT. Constant hatred over a trilogy of movies that he dedicated at LEAST 15 years of his life toward. Honestly, they complained constantly! "I hate JarJar", "I hate Midichlorians, they're dumb", "The senate hearings were horribly boring", "Anakin is so whiny", "I hate all the CGI".....blah blah blah. It's the TOXIC FANS that did it! Personally, I'm amazed he didn't sell the franchise SOONER! I probably would have, had I been in his place.

In my opinion - and I only say "opinion" because I'm not aware if GL has ever confirmed this idea - those fans are the ONLY reason GL sold the franchise in the first place. I know he's said that he did it because he wanted to focus on telling other stories, but you don't sell your "golden goose" because you want to do something else. You CERTAINLY wouldn't sell your golden goose, because you want to raise sheep. I think he'd had it with all the hate.
