John Boyega Strikes Back! John Boyega recently came out and added himself to the list of Disney Star Wars actors that were not happy with the direction and handling of their Star Wars characters by Lucasfilm. He makes a good point. What is an SJW shill to do? Can they still defend Kathleen Kennedy, JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson? From The Force Awakens, through The Last Jedi and finishing with The Rise Of Skywalker we saw the decline of Finn.
Were we right all along?

Well, we can add John Boyega to the list, but that’s not really a surprise. If you enjoyed the video a “like” or “subscribe” is appreciated. A share also goes a long way in helping the channel and could also get you a new friend. If you hate the Disney Star Wars films, imagine how John Feels.

Also to add, George gave Billy Dee Williams a chance to put his own spin on Lando. So he added some of his own charismatic flavor to the character. Riun Johnson, Jar Jar Abrams and Cuntleen Kennedy are all dictators who basically take a "my way or the highway" approach to anything. Rogue One was successful because it didn't have much of Cuntleen Kennedy's input...in fact, I don't think she was in charge of any of it. A good director knows when to listen to his/her actors and writers.

I think they should have made Finn more of a serious character. He is a former stormtrooper who was trained from birth to kill and fight. Why the heck is he then the comic relief? That would have required screentime, on a very dark and serious subjects (child soldier). And that was not gonna happen with disney. As mauler said, that is why they made finn to be fun and upbeat, no way they will make a serious character that has suffered from brainwashing since he was child. It does not make sense that finn would be like this, he should be super serious and cold but mickey mouse would not allow it. They wanted an ex stormtrooper without any of the requirements writing. Disney was obsessed with making TFA light and fun, but if they wanted that they should not have made the stormtrooper and finn child soldier.

As a black man, I found Finn’s treatment insulting. He had so much potential, but was thrown into every token black character stereotype by lazy writing. All these critics defending the character just for being black is even worse because they show their own innate racism by ignoring what the actual black people think in favor of congratulating themselves for arguing with an imaginary foe. It reduces minorities to a prop. Letting a massive corporate entity hide their poor writing and project management behind a person of color while ignoring their input is the worst sort of racism because it lets them ignore us screaming for change just to focus on the superficial veneer of representation.

Could have been an icon, and role model to not only millions of little black kids, but millions of individuals all over the world. That's the kind of influence that Star Wars has. And they squandered that. Now, John doesn't even want anything to do with the character, and Finn will likely fade away outside of occasional comics. Shit just sucks, man.

The company simply no longer has any good creative leadership anymore. Say what you will of Walt Disney himself, the man wasn't perfect but he at least had vision and to be somewhat fair since his passing most whom took over tried to continue on with pursuing creative innovation of his company. Even at Disney's worst, like their slump in both the 80's and the early 2000's still tried to provide fresh and creative ideas. Now however, I wanna say since Bob Iger took over, that aspect of Disney is almost completely dead. It's become less and less about creative innovation and more soulless rehashing of older and better ideas. Plus buying up other studios and properties, and running them into the ground as we have seen with Star Wars. Them going 'woke' is merely another nail in the coffin. As now your no longer telling the stories you want to tell, but pandering to divisive politics that have been continually proven don't make money.

This isn’t me virtue-signaling or claiming to be color-blind, I’m just saying that the fact that they’re black isn’t the first thing that I think of. I guess it’s not really what I think of with Finn, either, but he’s just kind of there. What do I even remember about him after three films? He used to be a stormtrooper... and that’s about it. He doesn’t really contribute anything to the story other than filling a diversity quota. Mace Windu was a key player throughout the prequels and CW, and Lando’s betrayal of Han was the direct cause of pretty much everything that followed in that film and much of what happened in the next.

This is why the release schedule for the Disney Star Wars movies was terrible. I remember even noting at the time that a movie every year wasn’t possible for Star Wars, given there was a 3 year gap between every previous Star Wars trilogy and there wasn’t a spinoff movie in-between to distract the higher ups. Having so little time to make these movies means you don’t have time to properly develop anything. Marvel didn’t even do its content vomit until after there was a fully realized plan and a well oiled assembly line set up. And they’re floundering now that they no longer have a plan post-Endgame.

@Strange Boy he was definitely built up to be one, and I would say certainly was one in the first movie. People have also brought up how his character could have been built up to have a more interesting arc, like how he and Phasma could have more of a rivalry and him some development there. Some example was that the "TRAITOR!" screaming stormtrooper should have been Phasma and they would have faced off, Finn been completely defeated. Then in the second movie when they faced off they could have been more equal, something causing them to have to stop fighting(e.g. ship falling apart, separating them). Then in the final movie had him defeat her. Could also have given Phasma an arc instead of being completely irrelevant.

That is because their stories (or lack thereof) were garbage. Rian just wanted this: I want them to be the underdog, pursued on all fronts facing impossible odds, and just a few survive in the end while we kill some of them. It was incredibly stupid. Stunningly so. The justification used for some of the scenes were incredibly bad. I mean - they went to the casino planet to find the ONE guy who could help them - oh, but while in jail they just so happen to find another guy. Oh, and that jail (again, them against authority) - they were being chased for basically double parking. Total complete fail. JJ was just a bad story teller. Period. He is good at scenes - and then just kind of strings them together. He sucks at any acutal character arcs or plot development or even creating suspense or tension with story elements - he always has to escalate to "saving the .... galaxy, earth, yorktown, the resistance...etc. insert big thing here". that is just sloppy writing. The scene of "I want them to hold up this cool artifact thing, and it have a message or map thing...". We got a dagger that was made for no reason by whom, that was stored where, and then rey just so happened to stand in the exact spot, holding it in the correct hand. We have to find the thing, to find the thing, to help us get to the place, but the place that all the other can find easily in the end. Keep KK, JJ and RJ away, they are clueless about star wars. Give it to Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni - they get star wars.

I disagree. Although Finn should have played a much more important role, I think he should not have been a main character, but hear me out. I think Finn had multiple options the one that would have made the most sense for Disney (because of money and no definitive relationships between characters) is Finn training together with Rey, neither of them being a main character but rather both of them being the main characters together. Another option would be a, and hear me out, love triangle. Finn loving Rey over the cause of the movies but Rey either not having those feelings for him because of her roaming character or an interesting backstory with kylo. I don't even think that Rey being a Palpatine is that bad of a thing, it should have just been explored more. It could also pose as a reason to intensify her relationship with kylo. He could help her train her powers. Snoke dying that easily is stupid though. He could have posed a threat to kylo and Rey since they mainly got in contact through his link. Maybe kylo stood against him after a while or was betrayed by him. He then could have fought against them in the end. Barely winning until Finn, which had a story of bringing people together to fight against another threat: husk and plasma slowly bringing chaos to multiple worlds. They then retreated to Snoke to help him. So Finn fights his way through but because Rey and kylo have already been knocked unconscious (or some other reason why they could not fight at that moment) he loses. Not dying but being thrown away though the floor or wall or smth similar, only to find himself against plasma and a bunch of troopers commanded by husk. Rey and kylo get back in the fight, and because Finn weakened Snoke as well as getting them enough time to strike back, they finally defeat Snoke. Rey tries to go and save Finn but kylo stalls her for a short amount of time, because he doesn't know Finn and doesn't have his emotions under control and is jealous. She manages to convince him and gets to the battlefield where Finn just defeats Plasma and the remaining troopers. Finn is exhausted but knows that they won so he is happy. Just before they can completely reunite Rey notices husk (which basically played dead) behind Finn with a blaster. Just as she cries out to him husk shoots the blaster hitting Finn. Just as husk realises he has 2 more force users to fight he runs away. Rey is shortly agonized about Finns death until she follows husk, ready to kill him. Kylo takes Finn and goes after her. Just as kylo arrives he sees Rey just about to kill husk. Try looks at him and after a while of thinking, going through her doubts, rage and other mixed feelings she decides to spare husk, ultimately defeating her bloodline. Just as husk realises that he picks up his dropped blaster and tries to shoot but ultimately gets his hand cut off by kylos lightsaber. OMG I just wrote a whole fanfiction about the end of the sequels and I feel it's 100 times better than the original... Bruh

But why couldn't they be both a main character, but in different ways? Maybe Hux and Kylo could've been the main antagonists, to even it out. Finn takes down his former boss and Rey defeats Kylo... with her training tho, lol.

He definitely should have been the most interesting character.... There were so many story threads they could have gone with about a defected Stormtrooper, the affects of Imperial propaganda, the guilt he feels after killing his brothers and sisters he grew up with, PTSD involving being raised as a brainwashed child solider, and whether even a Stormtrooper is worthy of being redeemed through The Force... but no. Comic relief.

Shit the prequels may have mostly sucked but they had cohesion and real overarching plots and arcs. They had a destination in mind and plans for an ending. Lucas' whole plan ended with Anakin and Obi-Wan battling and Anakin becoming Vader. He had that ending in mind and built the trilogy around that. It wasn't always good but it all built up for the payoff. And honestly it was a pretty amazing payoff. People joke about Vader yelling 'NOOOOO!' but that has more passion and effort than almost everything in the sequel trilogy.

This was actually very well put. And now makes me think they’re simply opting for replacing existing characters with different ethnicities than putting in effort to give ethnic/minority main leads new stories. Like Ariel and now Snow White.

To be somewhat fair, the original trilogy wasn't exactly planned out in advance despite what George himself might like to claim. Mainly cause Star Wars was never planned to be a trilogy let alone a Saga or franchise. But for the most it worked, due to a lot of creative people, Lucas included, putting all their heads together to ensure it all worked out in the end. JJ just relies entirely on his bullshit mystery box gimmick that he gives next to no thought or consideration on how to have it all line up or make sense in the end. So it's really no wonder why all three of these movies are so at odds with one another narratively.

I left the theater in 2015 loving finn. Im a white guy, not that it should matter. He was a good star wars character, full of potential. Funny, well acted, a character arc. He went from being frozen in fear, afraid of kylo ren, to facing him 1 on 1 with a lightsaber to protect his friend. Hes no longer running away and finally has someone hes willing to fight for. I thought finn was great and was so excited to see where his journey leads him. Then the last jedi happened and he was sent on a B-story side mission with a new character that was annoying and stupid in all of her scenes. Teaching finn about child slaves, even though we know he WAS a child slave? Then he randomly beats phasma by cheap shotting her, gets sexually assaulted and...the end. Well that sucked, ok we still have one movie right..? Rise of bad fan fiction. Finn is USELESS! He keeps saying he has something to tell his first true friend Rey, but we never find out. The movie ends and wtf was he going to say?? I dont care if its explained in some BS expanded book or whatever. Oh and i guess he has the force, kinda, wow..what an arc. Ive never seen a character be so relatable and liked by alot of people only to be destroyed in the following films. No jedi Finn, no remorse for killing his fellow soldiers, no turning back to evil, just a slapstick comic relief and keeper of secrets? F U rian johnson, kathleen kennedy, chris terrio and disney all together.
