"We'll get to see how Han met Chewie." Han met Chewbacca shortly after graduating the Imperial naval academy as one of the most promising cadets the academy had ever seen. He was stationed on Kashyyk, helping to oversee the locals being put to work as slaves, when he had a crisis of conscience, deserted, and took the poor wookiee slave that was being punished with him. The wookiee pledged a life debt to Han, much to his annoyance, and followed him like a lost puppy for months while the two got to become the inseparable friends we see in the Original trilogy. That's the only canon I ever needed.

Have not seen the movie. But something just dawned on me watching this vid. Han Solo keeps the name the Empire gave him. Keeps said name as he goes into a life of crime. And continues to use said name for years after. Even though he has most likely been classified as a deserter by the Empire, and would be hunted down as one. Makes you wonder how he made it to A New Hope. Glad I never watched this crap, and consider it a high priced fan fic. Cause this aint canon.

To be honest, the movie is not that bad, way better than any of the sequels. I enjoyed it, wasn't the best movie I've ever seen but I thought it was a decent movie. Maybe I liked it because I didn't have any expectations for it to be even decent, but it was.

I didn't mind _TFA_ and _R1_ too much, they seemed promising ... but _Solo_ was forgettably mediocre and _TLJ_ was insultingly stupid. Maybe I'm not as angry because I'm not as invested in SWEU - only read a couple novels, still haven't gotten around to KOTOR - although I do understand the rage. But meh, just enjoy (or don't enjoy) the movies for what they are and who cares about buying precious "canon" - the word is just a euphemism for "legal owner who gets to milk money off the property/brand/franchise/licensing".

That clip of Waller Bridge explains a hell of a lot. I was always amazed at the fact that she vocally just plays herself in that film when every other droid ever has at least given some sort of robotic delivery or built a character. She literally just went in and read the lines and that is her "acting."

I honestly never noticed the dice. Ever. Until the new films when they made it a massively important to specifically film shots where the characters interacted with the dice.

we noticed the dice when Chewy bumps them with his head in one shot. it was an easter egg like the stormtrooper bumping his head that we knew about for decades, but nobody cared enough to make it "canon" (well I guess George made the head bump canon in 2004 after calling back to it in episode 2). in truth they were probably the big fluffy rear view mirror hangers as they existed in that decade, painted gold, as opposed to those obvious branded board-game ready novelties we see in TLJ. brilliant video. solo, like rogue one, would have worked better as a tv special.

I clarify the dice were an easter egg (intentional) but the stormtrooper bumping his head was a genuine flub (that Lucas himself later acknowledged and made "canon"). maybe his spirit is stored inside the dice and that way they can bring him back in the new movies? 8)

To understand Mauls return from the grave, I highly recommend watching Clone Wars the cartoon. It's Star Wars at it's peak. The first season and some of the second can be given a pass, and there are "cheat sheets" if you want to avoid some of the worse episodes, but overall the show as a whole is magnificent. It builds up Maul as a character, and an interesting one at that.

This is wrong. It's filoni wars and completely debased and gutted the prequels. Every aspect of the prequels was made worse by the clone wars, and I think that most clone wars fans give it a pass as they watched it as kids. I didn't, and while most of the stories are alright the negative effects it's had on Star Wars makes it genuinely the worst thing that could've happened. It's the direct cause of the Star Wars we see today. Filoni only knows how to write one type of story and only gives his OCs good content. He also made every character from the prequels a flanderized version of themself or a completely different person.

I think you missed the point of that interaction. He isn't stopping because he can't understand Han speaking English initially... he doesn't stop because he thinks he's a threat However after Han speaks Wookie... proving he has some sort of history/involvement with Wookies (admittedly we don't know what that is, and that sucks but anyway), Chewie is able to pull himself out of fight/flight response and is open to listening to Han's reasoning

I just googled "Droid" and I got a shit ton of pictures of R2-D2 and BB-8 along with that droid from Rogue One, the Battle Droids and Super Battle Droids without even scrolling down.

David Tennet should be in a Star Wars film, clearly he shows appreciation for the series, and is an amazing actor.

The whole Maul thing (and yes its stupid) comes from the clone wars animations. It details Maul's survival and return. They should have stolen Filoni to help write along with stealing the ideas.

The Solo movie should have been Han during his academy years. Show us learning to be a fantastic pilot. Running card games and schemes in teh barracks. Yeah, maybe have him get kicked out of flight training and sent to be a ground pounder. Show us why he left/got kicked out. Chewie should have been in the last 10 - 15 minutes. Maybe Han rescues him from slavers and that's why they are now on the run. NO FALCON! That in itself is an entire new character to introduce and is fitting of it's own movie. Make it the movie of the trilogy.

As soon as I heard that Disney was buying it years ago I couldn't believe that people got excited, because I knew it was going to be bad...very bad....(I got a bad feeling about this). And then it turned out orders of magnitude even worse than I ever imagined! They even permanently damaged all the preceding films and every other thing associated with Star Wars as well. "...just another movie." And one of the worst in this age of incredibly bad movies too. Damn you, Disney. The simplest thing to do is to just stop acknowledging any Disney stuff as Star Wars.

tsopmocful I dunno, i think star wars has been fucked for awhile. George Lucas is very hit and miss. The only reason the prequels became amazing was the clone wars series. Lucas fucked the prequels up initially and he fucked up the games too. Disney has definitely not preformed like they should have but I don’t really think its the company. Probably more like the writers and their need to bend to the will of the consumer and general population( “the powerful females”). Underneath all of that their was definitely potential for a good story, the creators just didn’t follow threw on it.

I actually liked the older Solo story better where Han actually had a promising career as an Imperial Officer and he left that behind to save Chewie and became a smuggler. That, and the Solo family line actually was related to Corellia's old Emperors, not just some random line cooked up by an Imp Officer.

Personally I don’t like the idea of Han Solo being an imperial since it was never mentioned once in the OT when he could’ve used his imperial knowledge to help the rebel alliance.

@@johnny.V03 Except all backstories of Han mention his Imperial past. Also, we saw his Imperial knowledge in ESB where he knew how to lose the ISDs and were the blind spot of one was.

This movie went through so many people's eyeballs before being released, and no one screamed at the top of their lungs. Why the fuck is Rae translating for chewy to Luke freaking Skywalker!? Man Disney has no fucks to give about this property.

there is nothing in this movie cringingly bad unless you take the droids line "it works" and let your imagination run away with you. "it works" could have referred to their "love" without sex being involved.... the way people love dogs... the way han loves chewy...

@@konstantinosnikolakakis8125they still use his type of droid commonly throughout the galaxy though, the most advanced droids we see are the battle droids in the prequels and ig-88 in the OT, which the sentient robot is far more advanced then both, like to an absurd degree

the back story would have actually been cool if it had any of hans actual back story in it

C3PO is destroyed in Empire Strikes Back and gets put back together again by Chewie soooooooooooooooooooooooo we already know that droid deaths mean nothing unless they get completely annihilated. Kinda kills the tension.

Am I the only person who thinks it's kinda strange that the Empire gave Han his last name. It was registered in the Imperial records as Han Solo. Yet, when he deserted the Army, he kept going by that last name even though it seems like doing so would have made it easier for the Empire to track him down.

i doubt they'd look for one defector. they likely put out a bounty, let mercenaries handle it, which he clearly has run ins with quite frequently as a smuggler as is.

this is sound... it makes no sense that he would keep the imperial name given to him.... why not have the imperial officer give him Han "Smith" and at the end of the movie Han says... i have to leave that name behind me... the imperials and now Crimson Dawn are after me... and Kira says... "how about Solo... we'll change it when we meet again... when you are complete" sorry not a writer... but something in that vane.

I have a better idea. Han Solo lived on the planet Corellia with his father who was a ship builder named Jacen Solo. They lived a good life with his father even teaching him how to fly until his father was killed by a crime boss. Han, distraught, swipes one of the men’s guns but misfires when he tries to shoot the crime boss. The crime boss proceeds to beat him and leaves him for dead before he is thrown away into a local orphanage. Now an adult, Han applies to be an Imperial pilot but on one mission to Kashyyk he sees the horrors of the Empire as they savagely shock and beat a Wookiee named Chewbacca who was trying to protect his family. Feeling empathy and pity for the Wookiee, Han stops the abuse but is thrown out of the Imperial Navy and black listed. On top of that, he now has to deal with Chewbacca following him everywhere because Chewbacca owes his life as stated in Wookiee culture, Han decides to become a smuggler and the rest of the story takes off from here.

I actually thought the Kessel run was one of the best parts of the movie because it was pretty true to its EU origins. The idea was that Kessel was a spice trade planet, but the only routes to it ie the “Kessel Run” were through masses of black holes (the maw, which is actually a rather important location in the EU) and other space dangers. There was sort of a competition among smugglers and pilots to find the shortest way through without dying, and the shortest path any pilot had found through these surrounding dangers was like 18 parsecs; Han pulled it off by straying off the safest denoted route and cutting through dangerous areas. So it was pretty similar to the movie, even though I don’t like the way the black hole is portrayed, and the walls of ice thing was interesting but kind of dumb.

Look up "Legends" stuff if you want the real canon. Disney-canon is its own thing.

Solo: what you do when having a billion dollars just isn't enough.

A story about the Millennium Falcon would have been more interesting. The Falcon had multiple owners and had gone through a lot before Lando got it. But Disney/Lucasfilm would know nothing about that.

Like Honest Trailer said: it's the movie about Han Solo's _props_ . Nothing in the movie actually told us about his character.

The boycott was perhaps a few tens of thousands of die hard fans and while it might have hit repeat sales of theatre tickets and reduced capacity at unsociable hours, it shouldn't have had a big impact on the success or failure of the movie. It did bad because TLJ was a steaming pile of shit and casual cinemagoers had zero interest in taking themselves or their families to see a repeat. Word of mouth was also bad and Lucasfilm went out of their way to put off conservative cinamagoers from taking the kids with their "pansexual" bullshit.

The one true bit of canon in the movie was darth maul and I’m surprised they even knew he survived and took over a crime syndicate. It shows that maybe they did some kind of research into the history of Star Wars but it also raises the question of what other canon has been seen and blatantly ignored or rewritten

Han Solo's backstory is like the noodle incident in Calvin and Hobbes. It's better left to the imagination because we can come up with something far better than anything the writer can. We can imagine whatever we want, but if it's explained, it's most likely not going to live up to our expectations.

Pretty stupid of you to have been excited about Disney buying Star Wars. I rolled my eyes and immediately knew it would be a factory assembly line of movies every year as Star Wars was ran into the ground. I knew then that Star Wars was over for me and I have never regretted walking away from Disney. I will stick with the George Lucas offerings.

@@wombprofusion I can't tell if you guys are talking about a movie of the actual old republic, which took place about 4,000 years before the films, or just a movie about earlier days of the republic that take place before Episode I. If it's the former: I doubt it. I'm pretty sure Disney doesn't even consider that canon. If it's the latter: Unfortunately, they will be. This new book series they're advertising called "The High Republic" is going to be the foundation for their next film series. I'm guessing they're beginning with literature this time around so they don't have to keep using the "It's not a plot hole; it's explained in the novelizations that you need to pay more money for" excuse.

Meh, you can buy a *LOT* of beer with 4 *BILLION* dollars. I love (loved) Star Wars. But if I were given 4 billion dollars for it, I would have cheered when it was a success for Disney. he was great in Clone Wars - he was a lightsaber archivist droid. Entertaining voice actor. Talented man. He would have made an excellent replacement for LEE7 or whatever it was

#1 worst part of the whole movie plot is that it has no Jaba! I wanted SO BADLY to learn about the relationship between Han and Jaba. In the original films it's very apparent that they have a history, and this leaves all of that out! There's no good bad guy, crappy new characters, Han's love interest isn't well developed and not very likable, and the whole movie is rushed even though it doesn't cover much of his past leading up to A New Hope. It's just not enough of what the fans wanted and too much crap filler.

I think they actually set it up with the intention of making more Han Solo movies. Qi'ra is still alive, but in charge of the crime syndicate now. Darth Maul is revealed to be behind the scenes pulling the strings. Beckett sets Han and Chewie on the path of meeting Jabba. There was still story to be told here. I really do think that there were some plans to turn this into its own series of films. Unfortunately bad word of mouth plagued this production almost from the start, and i highly doubt we'll ever see anything else.

Is it just me or do I like jar jar compared to the sequel characters… at-least Jar Jar was somewhat funny at times and actually had a good story to him and character plot.

I honestly think Solo would have worked as a TV show, where you can have single-episode stories, as well as allow different characters, plots and devices be introduced, expanded on and given depth over multiple episodes and seasons.

Dude seriously this video is one of the best things I have ever seen, that bit with the sexual music had me in actual stitches. Not only have you earned a subscribe but I am telling everyone I know about it. Well done mate

Before episode 7 was released I was the BIGGEST fan. born 1980. Had all the star wars toys. 2 ATATs, 2 ATSTs, the falcon and all the figures. Man I was obsessed, I didn't see last jedi in the cinema, haven't even watched solo and I won't be seeing episode 9............. Sad times, RIP childhood. Well at least i have the despecialized versions now to enjoy. I'm off to watch new hope. *cries*

Absolutely. TFA was horrendously devoid of exposition to the point where it was impossible to fully comprehend the plot without reading outside material. What's the background state of affairs in the galaxy? How's the New Republic doing? What's their relationship to the Resistance? What is the First Order? What's the name of that hitherto unnamed and unvisited planet that they just blew up? Who cares, fuck it all.

I think the best thing I've heard someone say about Solo is that it's more like one of the good episodes of Clone Wars. I went in with practically no expectations and really, really enjoyed it because of the original characters, setting, and the unique take on the crime world of star wars that I didn't see coming. I wasn't looking for an origin story, just something that felt like it functioned and fit into that Star Wars feeling I associate with the universe, and I got that feeling from this movie. Despite its flaws, Solo was fun, and really enjoyable as its own thing. It actually got me wanting to see more films along those lines, like in an Indiana Jones style of anthologized, disconnected movies about Solo. I get why people didn't turn out to see it, but I honestly think it's a shame that it had so many issues surrounding it that deterred people. Definitely not the best, but it was something that I genuinely enjoyed.

I really don't understand why people don't think it's an origin story. We seem him grow up abandoned as a slave, he escapes that servitude with a fellow slave that he's in love with, and then devotes his time and efforts to find her after she's kidnapped. Joins the imperial academy to become a pilot, gets demoted to infantry because he's bad at taking orders, hooks up with criminals to meet his goals, and gets exposed to the underworld and crime in the process. Learns how to gamble by being beat by a master (Lando) and then ultimately learns his tricks and beats him to get the Falcon. Learns not to trust anyone because he gets betrayed by his father figure. Meets Chewbacca and forms a tight bond with him. On top of that, he gets his trademark weapon, does the Kessel run and gets set up to meet Jabba. Yeah there's some dumb stuff like the droid and the weird love thing with Lando, but does it really matter when everything else is so solid? I seriously don't get it.

I do not understand why SJW's feel the need to interject sexuality in EVERYTHING they touch. Seriously NO ONE CARES what these characters are attracted to. It is like rowling coming out AFTER the deathly hallows was published and said that Dumbledore was gay. Unless the story is enhanced by a character being gay or whatever, it does not help the narrative having a character basically standing up and shouting "I AM (insert sexuality here)!" On another note, Disney seriously needs a continuity expert on these films. I honestly do not want Disney to make an obi wan movie because I know they would screw it up.

I personally think the whole Dumbledore being gay was fine, it didn't really change the movie and I suppose it did make an awesome character homosexual which is great! Not only that but it obviously wasn't clearly visible in the movies or books (although it did just seem like JK shat herself and thought people were gonna ridicule her) I think that the real utter fuck up was making Hermione black?! The fuck? I mean, sure make a character black in a movie that's good but you can't just completly change a characters race in a movie because that just makes no sense.

If you watch Star Wars: Rebels after watching this movie, the way Lando talks to the droids feels very very awkward.

Being the definition of a blinded fanboy I originally loved the movie. But, after watching it 2-3 times... I was like... Why exactly do I like it? And man, it is the shortest list I ever made. Did the same with TLJ. I need to accept the truth... Disney is killing Star Wars. They killed LucasArts... One of my favourite game studios ever. Ruled out ALL of the expanded universe (Legends). I get that part of EU was completely bonkers. But was it necessary to kill ALL of it? Part of what made SW great is that we kind of built it together. Making theories and theories over what we could find in the EU. They shot that plane out of the sky. And to make sure it's really dead, they dropped a tactical nuke on top of it. All it really needed is surgical bombing... That collateral damage. All these great characters... -_-' And the movies... oh boi. The Force Awaken was a decent/good Star Wars movie. I mean, the only thing that really caused an issue to me is that it felt like a rehash of A New Hope. But, I told myself, perhaps it is their way to tell us "Star Wars is back baby!" so I didn't complained too much about it. Then The Last Jedi happened... By the reputation it had, I waited after watching Solo before touching that one. I regret buying the DVD... Since I'm a kid, I watched the original trilogy and prequels multiple times a year... I can safely say that I won't be watching either SOLO or TLJ for a long time. Perhaps TFA but tbh I might as well watch episode 4. Bottom line. They killed Star Wars for me and at this moment I do not care about what they are going to do with episode 9. I hope the franchise die before they do too more damage to it. This is painful to watch for a fan like me.

seriously though people complained about the prequels (it has some poor actors and plenty of moments of crappy writing, and Jar Jar) but its lists of flaws is pretty small (only 1 really bad character, most of the bad acting is limited really to Anakin; when he was young, and when he was a edgy teen) and while I do understand there was way to much CGI (it is understandable as George loved CGI and it got to the point were he could do so much with it so it is understandable) but the lightsaber battles were epic and well choreographed and the space battles are arguably some of the best in the franchise (the Space Battle for Coruscant is what a space battle should be) it also made sense once you pick your way through alot of the cringy dialogue (I really feel bad for Anakin and his actor as they did his character dirty with all of the bad writing). Really the worst things from the prequels was simply anything pertaining to Jar Jar and edgy boy Anakin. (also sorry for horribly punctuation, I hoped this made sense. If not i'll try to clear it up)

I enjoyed TFA so much and came to love Daisy Ridley as Rey. But Last Jedi not only killed Star Wars for me, it affected my admiration for poor Daisy Ridley. I don't want to see her or most of the other actors on any other film. Im sure she is talented, but man, she will be a reminder of how she was part of the crew that killed Star Wars for me.

I was boycotting this film and will do so with all future Disney SW products. I'm living in Lucas' (expanded) universe. A universe that all Disney writers don't get. It's vast and coherent and deep and it offers so much to explore.
