Ойын-сауық

@@icecold9511 Her strategy was: Let most of the fleet die as they slowly burn up fuel, despite knowing a way to have those ships destroy large numbers of enemy ships with their last bit of fuel; while fueling up slow, unshielded, shuttles they *know* they can track, so that they can flee to a *planet* that she seems convinced the First Order can’t see…all while not letting anyone know the ultimate plan (which was a suicidal plan, almost nobody survived to reach the “protection” of a mine with, until Rae pulled apart the back wall, *one way in or out* betting all their lives that an abandoned facility’s communication system works and help arrives in less time than it took them to get there. Meanwhile the Finn, who was demoted over *saving the fleet* using their terrible resources (why did they have orbital bombardment bombers only?), gets treated like a suspected traitor or like a Karen treats anyone they perceive as “lesser”. She gives him a “don’t worry your pretty little head about it” when he questions what appears from the outside like insane panic (and was, since the plan was: “run to the panic room and call for help, while being chased by the guys equipped to destroy panic rooms.”) and then threatens to arrest him because he is questioning and thinking. I will admit, before the pure stupid of the plan, and the ridiculously easy to find holes in it, was revealed I was *convinced* Holdo was a traitor due to her actions (aided by the fact they played First Order music during her screen time and “traitor” music stings whenever she spoke) and attitude.

There's actually a non-idiotic argument for saving Finn (having an enemy defector can provide tons of valuable intel,) but the one time Finn actually gets to do this in the sequels turns out to be a trap so we can sUbVeRt ExPeCtAtIoNs. I don't even know what his purpose in the story is now besides being Rose's boyfriend. In TFA he was the audience surrogate, the character who is confused by everything so people have to explain it to him and the audience, and he sort of had a rival arc that got completely thrown away. In TLJ all of that's out the window because there's nothing for him to be confused about. Then his arc is the question of whether he'll run away or die fighting, but they answer it with "none of the above", to sUbVeRt the expectation that character arcs actually conclude with change. What's left for him to do? I have to assume his time in Episode IX is going to be spent on a "will they or won't they" romance with Rose, because that's the dumbest possible thing I can think of for him to be doing. Finn was a really promising character, his breakdown at the start of TFA was actual good filmmaking, and seeing what they've wasted him on is worse than him just never being good.

That's where star wars has a bit of a problem, star destroyers are presented as capital ships, but they're called star DESTROYERS. If they are actually destroyers it would make sense that they can move quickly, that's one of the main roles of a destroyer. That would be all nice and good, but they sure look like either battleships or dreadnoughts to me.

@@mandm7950 The two scenes you've mentioned are absolutely terrible, and plenty of videos float around explaining why. The Hyperspace ramming scene breaks every single large-scale space fight ever in Star Wars history: If it's possible to destroy a fully shielded ship (+ several star destroyers) the size of Snoke's Mega Star Destroyer with a comparatively tiny Rebel ship.... why on earth were Star Destroyers ever a problem? Just ram the command deck at hyperspeed from out of gun range. Use a droid instead of a person, if no one is feeling suicidal. And the Praetorian Guard scene is filled with mistakes. There are multiple points where the guards just straight up drop their weapons for no reason. Guards disappear off screen for extended periods or stand around doing nothing. At one point Rey kicks away 3 of them with a single kick. 3 people! With one kick! It's so completely stupid. I want to like the film, I really do. I love the prequels, the originals, and the Force Awakens. I love Clone Wars, Rebels, Solo and Rogue One, even the shitty Ewok kids cartoons from like 2003. I completely disagree with that. There were plenty of memorable scenes in both movies. 9:24 God I remember thinking this the entire time I was in the theaters for the sequels. They instantly throw the idea of the Falcon being a cantankerous-but-useful sort of carrier (as you'd expect a smuggler to have) and give it this identity of a legendary-but-unknown armored heavy fighter. Sure, Rey says it looks old at one point, but in TFA it's more nimble than a fighter (when they don't crash into Ilum after hyperspace jumping into the planet), in TLJ (as you see in the video) it's neigh invincible and a significantly better fighter than actual purpose built fighters less than 30 years old, and in TLJ they don't even consider that the Falcon could run into any real meaningful issues stopping it and just use it as a scene transition. The Falcon's condition and abilities went from being one of the main causes of conflict in the movies to being entirely disregarded

I guess he saw that this will happen, and now he is happy because every living Star Wars fun will re watch the first 6 episode again and again and again in every year, actually i think many of us know that this will happen with the franchise at the moment when Disney bought it... There was a reason, that George never made another Star Wars film, that is showed us to his professionalism, he wanted his story to became eternal, a mystery, good stories never really end. That way we can think more and more into it, and maybe it will walk with us in our entire life. Just think about it, when he sold the story to Disney, that time star wars was still cool but it was the past. We loved it, but there was no real talk about it... Then one day we got the news and now, everybody talking about it and goes back to re watch the older episodes with newfound nostalgia. Plus free advertisement, a big kick in the gut for Disney, and a slowly fading universe became a most discussed thing on the internet.

And well, watching Luke from ep 8, for the first time he felt like a real person. You know, he failed his family, the galaxy, the Republic, the Jedi Order... he screwed everything up by creating Kylo Ren, so he did what I would expect: hide himself from everyone, waiting death. He has some deepness (is this word right? Idk) in this movie. He failed, and as the movie goes on he returns to be the old Luke Skywalker and saves the Resistance. Rey and Yoda were essencial to light this spark in him again. What is the problem of a hero falling? Batman falls in the end of the Dark Knight and in the beginning of the next film

It would be possible for Finn to disable the cannon (crash himself) if the distance were nearer. Nevertheless, if Finn weren't saved and was "sacrificed" in the film, the fighter and Finn would be roasted before reach it's eye making his heroic sacrifice useless. It's too late for him to disable a fired up cannon. The writing in the battle of Crait is bad, very bad. Rey joining Kylo and both of them leaving the first order would have opened up a lot of possibilities as well. While the resistance and First Order play tin soldiers, Rey and Kylo could have gone off to train together. She could have tried to pull him back to the light while he tries to get her more and more on his side. Instead, fuck all.

Making action movies where characters are developed and the plot is advanced in the midst of scenes of great tension is a lost art. One of my favorite all-time scenes is in Empire when Han, Leia, and crew are escaping the crumbling Hoth base pursued by stormtroopers and Vader. Throughout the scene Han and Leia are in a spat about priorities and respect while Chewie just wants to get to the ship ,Threepio stumbles along whining fatalistically, and R2-D2 prods him along. It's one of the finest, most hilarious action-packed few minutes in all of movie history. The characters are developed, their relationships and motivations are revealed, and the plot moves forward all in a moment of incredible tension! It used to be normal for movies to be composed of scenes such as that. The original trilogy certainly was. The old Indiana Jones movies. Goodfellas. The Goonies. The Exorcist. You name a movie you loved, and chances are there are scenes like this throughout. These days, with Disney especially, the focus is on Action divorced from plot or character development - the action is an end unto itself. Character and plot development are done through explication, if they are explained at all. How did Rey escape? Hux tells you. Why is Leia considered a great general? Because people say so. Anything important is simply told to the audience. Or it isn't. How does Rey learn to fly and defeat Kylo? Why is it important to her to fight the First Order? We are neither told nor shown. In fairness, using explication as a means to develop characters and plot isn't new. Shakespeare is kind of famous, and he did it a lot. He used soliloquoys to reveal motivations and 'messengers' suddenly arriving to develop plot elements. But it's important to know why he used those tools. It was because he was doing stage plays with limited budget and space. He couldn't show a battle or big action set-pieces. He had to use humor, slapstick, and clever lines to keep the audience engaged, while he used moving speeches to draw them in and make them care. Then a messenger would arrive to move the plot along. It worked well in his medium. Disney and Kathleen Kennedy don't have that excuse. They weren't limited in budget or space. They just forgot how a good movie was made.

People are seeing the B versions of the Star Wars screenplays, from A ghostwriter. The A versions weren't chopped up and defiled! I know the ghostwriter and he sent in the B versions in order to get A deal for the A versions. It never happened and the world is stuck with the lower quality films. Disney never had to make them but they decided to do so anyways. It all comes down to greed... As for calling him an amateur...that is just not the case. He has written 80 percent of the most popular movies since 1977. Back to the Future, The Goonies, The Matrix, E.T., A New Hope and Indiana Jones are A drop in the bucket of all his work. He is retiring so there will be A drop in films when his stockpile runs out. Not that it matters...

American Born Patriot, DOA? You do understand that means "dead on arrival", right? Rogue One made plenty at the box office. Hardly DOA, even if you didn't personally like it. Hell, I absolutely HATE The Last Jedi, but it was hardly DOA because it made plenty. The only SW film that was ever DOA was Solo, and that's because TLJ was so bad that it left a sour taste in everyone's mouth.

American Born Patriot, what a rambling incoherent response. As a general rule, I loath Disney Wars. I'm no apologist, and even if I were, that is wholly irrelevant to my point. Literally my ONLY point was to point out your misuse of the acronym "DOA". For something to be "dead on arrival" that means that it's been rejected by the target audience before it can even be launched/released. Solo is the only one that fits this criteria because at the time of release, many fans didn't give a shit. This is reflected by the poor box office figures. I'm pretty certain Episode 9 will be DOA as well considering nobody cares now that Han, Luke and Leia are dead. Most fans liked or at least tolerated TFA and R1. Their box office figures indicate they weren't dead on arrival because plenty of fans went to see them. And as shitty as TLJ was, people weren't enraged until AFTER they'd seen it. So it sold plenty of tickets and can't be considered dead on arrival either. I'm not defending shitty films, only correcting your misuse of the aforementioned term.

"We're out of fuel!" I don't think fuel has ever been mentioned in Star Wars up to that point. It's easy to write it so that they can't get away. Maybe the FTL drive is sabotaged on an important ship. Maybe the New Order is using some kind of device causing interference on their nav computer, so they can jump but it's risky as to where they will end up. Maybe they are flying through a special region of space that's blocking their FTL drive. The chase situation could be written so that the star destroyers don't have powerful enough cannons to hurt the rebel ships since the rebel ships have diverted all power to their rear shields. This leaves the sides and front of the rebel ships vulnerable to the TIE fighters, so Poe and the rebel X-Wings have to find them off. Meanwhile the ticking clock is the big bad, slowly accelerating New Order ship that has massive cannons able to destroy the rebel ships. It is managing to pick them off one by one. Will the rebels be able to reach their base before the big bad ship finishes them all?

The thing that gets me about the slow space chase is that it isn't inherently a problem that it is a low-action sequence of the movie. But the problem is that they don't replace that lack of action with anything meaningful instead. That slow space chase would have been a great opportunity to explore some meaningful character dialogue. Maybe we could learn about Poe's history under Leia or why she formed the Resistance, or Finn's life as a Stormtrooper. But no, we needed to have Admiral Holdo clipping off Poe's nutsack for 45 minutes, and we needed Finn to go on a silly adventure of anti-capitalism on Canto Bight with Rose.
