Ewan McGregor is back in the title role of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Disney newest Star Wars creation. Sadly, Lucasfilm has decided to give Obi-Wan Kenobi the same outline they used for Luke Skywalker. Depressed ex-Jedi who doesn’t resemble the once great character. Lucasfilm not only doesn’t understand the Jedi. They hate them. Episode 1 completely damages George Lucas’ Star Wars!

Are Lucaasfilm ever going to stop destroying the Original Trilogy? And, why do they hate the Jedi so much? We may never get those answers. But what did you think of the Obi-Wan Kenobi show? And of course, if you enjoyed the video (how could you not) hit the “Like”. Subscribing and sharing the video is always a big help. And of course the bell. Cheers!

You just know that the whole "When the time comes he must be trained" dialogue between Obi-Wan and Owen was written explicitly for the trailer because it's entirely irrelevant to the show's plot, it makes no sense within the show's established continuity and characterization yet it perfectly works as bait-and-switch to fool the audience into thinking the story is going to take a different direction.

I recently read that Grey DeLisle got the part as Azula’s voice actor in “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” because while the other auditioning actors were screaming the role’s lines, she understood that a character that powerful had _no need to raise her voice._ (Mark Hamill played Azula’s father.) No one in the show ever has to tell you that this 14-year-old girl is one of her world’s most powerful warriors or most intelligent strategists. She doesn’t have to shout to make anyone follow orders. DeLisle’s acting makes it believable. She only starts screaming when she’s falling apart. Anyways, Netflix is going to ruin one of my favorite characters just like Disney is doing in the Star Wars franchise.

This was the perfect opportunity by Disney to dissect what it means to be a jedi, because Obi-wan was THE quintessential Jedi throughout the prequels. He's the pure form of the ideal jedi who understands the greater good, and it's alright to be torn apart by guilt but this guy... is kind of just a broken loser. He doesn't behave in a way thats in character to everything we knew about Obi-wan up until this point. Also side note I love how sometimes it seems like less of the characters speaking and more of the message disney is trying to push on the nose. The "She's just as important as he is" is so silly, even if the scene were to make sense a distraught set of parents would do more than leverage someones love for another child while pleading to save theirs.

Had to reply. "Obi-wan was THE quintessential Jedi throughout the prequels" - What? Are you as insane as the Disney writers for Star Wars? Clearly you missed the approximately 50 (literally) instances in the prequels that proved beyond any doubt that Obi-Wan was a dipshit failure of a jedi including, but not limited to - oh no, not on your life! - him actually admitting to having failed (more than once, no less). Please - I implore you - explain to me how Obi-Wan saying to Anakin "Never lose your lightsabre, it is your LIFE" and promptly losing his lightsabre, fits in with your belief that he's the quintessential jedi. Were all the jedi doing this? Were there lessons on how to lose your lightsabre that all jedi had to excel at before they were knighted? if not, then Obi-Wan isn't the quintessential jedi. Speaking of being 'knighted', he didn't even face the Trials that are traditional for all jedi-to-be. How about when Yoda casually ordered Obi-Wan to bring in Jango Fett for questioning. You can go back and check the scene if you doubt me but Yoda and Windu didn't look dubiously at one another and then ask if Obi-Wan could manage the job. No, they hold to the maxim that the jedi DO or Do NOT, remember? So Yoda simply said, 'Bring him in' because they considered him a jedi and jedi can be trusted to do what they are tasked to do. You did see this bit, yes? So how come you failed to appreciate how much Obi-Wan left to be desired of a jedi when he promptly went into an embarrassing struggle with Fett that included him again 'hinting' to the audience that he was cocking it all up when he said, "Oh no" before before dragged off the platform after kicking Fett off it while attached to him. To be fair, the sequences were visually stunning and exciting but all told, Obi-Wan ended up defeated by Fett and offered up as monster food in an arena alongside Anakin. One of the principle points of the entire Star wars saga (by George Lucas as opposed to the Disney shite) was that Anakin should never have been trained, and how it all went wrong under Obi-Wan. Don't take my comment too hard though. I can't say I've ever come across a single Star Wars fan who thought any differently about Obi-Wan as you.

@@30noir The way George Lucas designed the force, the light IS the balance, the dark IS the imbalance. Light is when the force gets to act naturally and be on its own, only flowing through a good jedi like a cable or conduit. Dark is when a force user corrupts, perverts, and twists the force for their own ends. The message of Star Wars is that there is NO situation in which pursuing a Dark path will ever leave you personally uncorrupted. The use of absolute power to get what you want, coupled with it *working,* will always make you want to do it again, and again, and again, until that's all you do. Conversely, altruism (the natural existence and balance of the force) will literally never not make you a better person as a result of committing it, as there is very often much less, if any, personal benefit to being altruistic. It is the difference between pleasure and joy. Pleasure you take for yourself, it exists in the moment, and it goes away, making you want to take it for yourself again. Joy lasts forever, and it is only a thing that can be shared with others, never taken from them.

I’m absolutely disgusted with how Disney represents “broken” characters in Star Wars. First it was Luke, who hid away with full knowledge that his sister would need him to help the resistance, it only made Luke a pathetic coward. And now it’s Obi wan, his character was always meant to be one of the old, stoic crusader. He felt haunted and blamed himself for the past but he consistently never stopped training or preparing, as Luke is the only true chance of defeating the emperor and Vader. Obi wan has to be at the top of his game for the sake of the galaxy and for the son of the man he failed to save. Kenobi is a general and war hero, took on multiple sith, he’s so brilliant that he was known as the “negotiator” and was one of the greatest duellists in the order. It’s character destroying that none of those aspects are shown in the Kenobi show, only to have him be an unreliable fool who slips up 2 minutes after lying and can barely use the force

In the prequels in the middle of nowhere how did Anakin know Qui-gon was a jedi? oh that's right, he recognised his "laser sword" (and I hate myself for saying that, but the point still stands)... also at this time kanan jarrus is around how did he not get recognised as a jedi sooner? he hides his lightsaber in pieces as to not be noticed, the lightsaber is just too obvious and dangerous an item for a jedi to carry around in this time period... I agree he should be combat training, in the comics obi-wan trained against sand-people in the desert to keep his skills up. he clearly has had practise with a blaster, he's shooting more accurately than crosshair (exaggeration) so there's that... but the lightsaber is too obvious a weapon for him to use it sticks out like a sore thumb, and I thought it was really weird when he just had it on his belt showing it off so carelessly to the dock workers when he left tattooine....

The power was Force Speed, which basically pushed the body to its natural limits for a time. You actually DO see it used throughout the prequels, it's why the Jedi and their counterparts are able to do all the crazy stuff they do. The thing is they aren't using it to its maximum extent usually, because Force Speed doesn't cause you to use any less energy - basically, you're just as exhausted at the end as you would be doing all that stuff without it. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan used Force Speed to such a high degree there because it was pretty clear the alternative was unavoidable death. If you use it in, say, a battle, you risk not defeating all your opponents in time and winding up a sitting, exhausted duck when your body's limitations are finally reached.

On the point about burrying the lightsaber, it is indeed stupid, but it's slightly less stupid when bringing in the detail that lightsabers are connected to the force, and so it makes it relatively easy to cover them, and maaaaaaybe splitting it from its owner also masks one's force presence. I have no idea why splitting someone up from their best weapon is a good idea though.

He’s not as powerful as Anakin, but he is far more dangerous, because he used the past 10 years to learn how to turn every weakness his suit had into a strength. Anakin just used brute force with his fighting, but Vader is far more precise, he waits his opponent out and learns how they fight. Once their Achilles heel has been identified, he sweeps the leg and the fight’s over. Not to mention, Vader had been doing all of this while Obi-Wan had been prioritizing keeping low. Obi wan at his prime could probably stand a chance, but that’s far gone in the past at this point. So it's pretty obvious that now Obi-Wan would be terrified of seeing his former apprentice, who he thought was dead, now murdering people recklessly. For me it makes total sense that Obi acted the way he did. And Vader was always powerful, even now. Besides all this, Obi-Wan didn't use his lightsaber during 10 years, and that doesn't mean that he forgot how to fight but instead he is very rusty and struggles to re-learn everything again. Vader is so intolerant of incompetence that he will kill subordinates that fuck up, what the HELL is he doing letting Reva live after she flat out tries *betraying* him? Remember Fallen Order? Remember how he killed Trilla/The Second Sister no questions asked simply because she was being pulled by the Light Side and considering switching sides after being beaten? She's got more than enough reason to hate him enough that that lightsaber impalement won't kill her, even though it REALLY should. They showed Reeva finding Obi-Wan's holo-communicator and getting the message Bail Organa sent him, meaning that she now knows about Luke and part of the drama for the final episode is likely gonna be her hunting him. Why bother showing that if Reeva's just gonna die from her injuries with no one else around? Different spin off religions had different takes on what it meant to be Sith, the rule of 2 or the later rule of 1, and depending on which regime or denomination the lines could be blurred between a dark Jedi and a Sith Acolyte. Technically, Inquisitors never underwent any form of Sith training. Palpatine and Vader saw them as nothing more than children with lightsabers. The Inquisitors didn't know how to use the Force too well. They were only taught enough to kill Jedi. This is a basic explanation as to why Palpatine wanted Inquisitors. If you are interested in understanding Inquisitors, just watch some video on it.

I have to say it: you’re right. Before this video I was “okey, I can’t say anything now because there are three episodes still” but after this video I realised a lot of things, little things that I didn’t pay attention to. I tried, that’s all I can say. I tried to watch this show even that I knew that was going to be bad. It really hurts to see how Disney is ruining characters that I used to love. Love your channel! As someone who has dabbled in acting (amateur) quite a bit, a general rule I’ve had by some quite notable drama teachers is: a person who yells and screams is a person who has no power and is boring to watch.

  • @TylerTheLoser_

This is a common sentiment shared around by reddit “actors” that tends to be generally untrue. There’s nothing wrong with yelling or screaming in acting, nor is the blame attributable to the actor, as it’s the director’s job to lead.

@@TylerTheLoser_ Firstly, I clarified my acting experience is amateur (short film and local theatre). Secondly, I did not blame the actor. But the general consensus is that yelling and screaming constantly shows a character who lacks power, and when used continually it is a boring choice for an actor. There are much better choices than continual yelling and screaming. I haven’t seen the script and I don’t know what direction was given, so I can’t say where the blame lays. But I can say it’s a boring choice and does not show a character with menace or control.

Now that all the villains are so shouty, let’s take a moment to remember Grey DeLisle got her role as Azula’s VA in ATLA because during her audition she read the part without any screaming. When in control, a truly powerful character has no need to raise her voice. Anyways, Netflix is definitely going to ruin that.

There are valid reasons to dislike the Jedi. Exploring these reasons was part of the purpose of the Prequels, along with showing how democracies can fall to tyranny, and how good intentions do not guarantee good outcomes. However, ruining established characters because one doesn't know how to write them well - or worse, to push a new character whom nobody cares about - is not the same thing as earnestly and incisively examining in-universe ideas.

I would still very much like to see a movie or show that shows the side of the Jedi order that is kind of fucked up...taking kids away from their parents, teaching their adherents to block emotion and love. There is a good story to tell about this stuff, but Disney ain't the company to do it. It would take a writer and director with intelligence and love for Star Wars that could tackle that

Their insistence on avoiding the Dark Side led to them not even sensing the Sith as they orchestrated the Clone War. The biggest sin they had was being peacekeepers while turning a blind eye to the rot of the Republic. They knew of the corruption in the Senate but decided to stay largely neutral which again aided the Sith. They should've never gotten involved in the Clone War but they did unfortunately.
