Looks like it's actually Pumpkinseed sunfish that are invasive to Europe, not Green Sunfish or Longear. Longear sunfish are a bit more rare anyways, and not as aggressive. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pumpkinseed link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10530-008-9220-7 I don't think people having these dudes as aquarium pets is going to reduce their numbers by much if they're already infested, in fact having them as pets would probably increase the chances of them invading more waters, as people don't like killing their fish when they have to get rid of them, and have an unfortunate habit of putting them in local bodies of water. Here in Michigan we have Goby fish in the Great Lakes, and those fuckers can only be exterminated by fishing them out and killing them, and never using them as bait-fish. They out-compete with lake Perch, but they've been getting reduced successfully, and now not so much. All I'm saying is just be glad they're not green sunfish. Those guys are native to central America, but are so aggressive and relentless destroyers of ponds, that the east and west coast considers them invasive species, despite being only a few states over.

Longears have been introduced into southern Michigan. Northern sunfish are very similar to them and are native to the entire lower peninsula region. Although the standard reference works recognize them as two different species, many people do not. You could probably collect them yourself, but check Michigan law before you do. Jonah's Aquarium lists longears for sale at 1 to 1.5 inches--$12 each for up to six, $7 dollars each for seven or more. They recommend at least a 55 gallon tank if you're planning to keep more than three. I think I'd go with a 100 gallon despite their small size (5 to 7 inches) because these fish have a reputation for being scrappy . . . even for sunfish. The maximum recorded length for longears is 9 inches, but that's an outlier. (The maximum for northern sunfish is 5 inches).
