Unboxing Some More North American NATIVE FISH!
Welcome to another unboxing of some native fish! Today's fish came from zimmermansfish.com. These fish came in healthy and were a good buy for the price, so I would recommend this seller. Also the fish from the other unboxing came from jonahsaquarium.com.
All of these native fish will go into my 90 gallon aquarium, with my sub-adult Green Sunfish, at some point in the near future. We will do a really cool setup for them in the near future, so stay tuned for that. More aquarium videos coming in the near future as well.
As always I thank you for watching and I hope you enjoyed the video. You can follow me on Instagram @serpadesign for project sneak peaks, updates and more content like this.

Welcome to another unboxing of some native fish! Today's fish came from zimmermansfish.com. These fish came in healthy and were a good buy for the price, so I would recommend this seller. A lot of you commented about putting the native fish in the 150 instead of the 90, but the 90 won't be their permanent home. Also, I think they will need something larger than a 150 or a the very least something longer. Since the 90 is longer than the 150 it makes more sense short term. ALSO I neglected to hold the terrarium contest this month. I appreciate that you guys didn't get on my case about it (I will explain what happened during the next contest). Anyways, here's your friendly reminder that the next contest will START this coming Wednesday, November 1st. So get your entry ready! someone is too scared and ignorant to go fishing for these fish
I started a native tank but I actually went out and caught all the fish, shrimp, and crawfish myself. Way more satisfying to know that I got them myself.

Yea I've had mixed sunfish tanks myself and I caught ALL my own fish except for 2 texas banded sunfish that were given to me by a freind who was moving to another state and couldn't take them with him!
I like how he carefully pulls the bags out
The catfish are totally tubular dude 😎
The box dosent even say “live fish” ect. In Australia it is illegal to post an animal without the correct labeling.

Good job. You keep us entertained and informed.
Didn't think I would enjoy an unboxing video so much. I don't even own fish, but now I want to. Great work
I enjoyed this video a lot! It was great seeing the update within it too. Goldfish are looking spectacular!
I love those bullheads. All the fish are looking good!
Very nice! I love how the sunfish are always so curious and must inspect everything. I hope everybody does well!
Be careful with bullheads, they'll attack anything, I had some with a largemouth bass bigger than them, they almost killed him, and they attacked me multiple times, and they grow very quickly.

Hello I really like your videos Greetings from Barcelona
Tanner, I thumbs up your videos, every time I watch them. I'm going to try and make a terrarium, but I don't have your artistic talent. Keep it up! I'm 80 years old and you are teaching me a lot!!! Wish me luck!!!
Just to let you know I have a large population of brown bullhead in my area and I've seen them upwards of 25 inches and will actively seeking out small fish to eat and I've caught 15 inch pumpkinseeds on top water frogs and big crayfish lures that don't even fit in there mouth
Always like to watch your vids.
Hi. New to your channel and I'm really enjoying your videos. This one brings me back. When I was a kid we had a pond near our house where we used to fish for bullheads, pumpkinseeds, bluegills and crappies.
Love the videos as always! Wondering if you could or have done a video on all your terrarium plants. Why you use them, where they work best and why ect. I know you do cover some when your putting them in the terrarium. I just figured it would be an exceptionally informative video as I can't find one good video just talking about plants. THANKS AGAIN!!
Very nice vid, Tanner! Thanks!!
Cool stuff!
If you still have these fish please do a update video of these fish and the goldfish! 👍🏽
I was hoping for some Madtom catfish. Those Bullheads are quite pretty though, great mottling on them.

madtom are too small and slender imo
FYI, Priority Mail boxes ship out on FedEx planes so not a huge difference (except for price).
Love the brown bullheads! Never seen anyone keep them in an aquarium before

Would you ever consider getting stickinsects or praying mantis, or any invertebrates ?

Have you ever considered any darters for the tank? They do great with sunfish, you might have to watch them with the bullhead but I'd bet anything they'd be fast enough to avoid any possible trouble. Plus it would ad a good color range to compliment the sunfish, especially the pumpkin seed.
@SerpaDesign

I couldn't find any that I was confident would live successfully with the green sunfish (not to say there isn't). Plus I really wanted the catfish! However there are some really nice looking darters. Maybe some day I will start up a smaller scale native tank and include some.
Green sunfish can be pretty aggressive and territorial, and as adults are not good to keep with smaller sunfish like dollars or pumpkinseeds, they can be kept with long ears or bluegills or red bellied as they are all roughly the same size. They will eat the offspring of other sunfish as most sunfish will.
What do you feed the sunfish and where do you get it?
natives are hardy AF, if any fish can take abuse from shipping its them.
I find your videos quite inspiring. It has propagated some ideas I've been pondering. Do you have any idea if its possible for me to keep small trout in a mixed tank with a vivarium on the top 2/3rds of the tank. Further, your Bull Catfish are spectacular, wow. Is there a native species that stays much smaller in size, serious smaller in fact with a full grown size of no more than 3" if possible. The project I'm building is a large volume but its all focused on micros, micro moss, lichen, micro orchids, ferns etc. Ultimately some thumbnail dart frogs will inhabit this ecosystem once its stabilized and highly bioactive. I am thinking of "Imitator Nominant" some as they're small I don't want to have highly carnivorous in the bottom 1/3 of the tank in the aquatic portion which your bull catfish would fit into that category... Any thoughts, ideas and/or suggestions.
@SerpaDesign

I wouldn't recommend any native catfish, trout or really any other native fish for that matter. There are fish that stay small of course, but why not just get tropical fish since you're replicating a tropical environment? Personally I think some kind of schooling fish would look really nice in a setup like that and maybe some small bottom feeders.

If you're looking for a small native catfish, madtoms are the way to go. They look identical to bullheads in shape but only grow a few inches. I have 1 in a micro native aquarium. I couldn't be happier with it! I hope that helps!
Where is that last plant from? It looks like you can pull it out easily. I used to catch bluegills when I was little & wasn't allowed to take them off the hook because "they'll spike ya" (NJ)
Hello! You do not balance the water in the parameters? Only the temperature?
@CrustyBollox
6 жыл бұрын
Water parameter acclimation is good to do, but not strictly necessary, except for some of the more sensitive fish (or corals). When a fish has been shipped and has been in a bag for a while, it's best to just get them out and into a tank as quickly as possible.
BTW, nice video. Thanks!
Awesome
highly suggest against frozen blood worms if i feed them at all i make sure to microwave thoroughly

How much was shipping
You have a plastic plant in this tank?
I'm new at your channel, so, I don't know if you have a reason for not doing that or if it's possible or not, but can you make a carnivorous plant terrarium?
nice
I haven’t seen one bigger than 15” don’t worry that was in a Lake too

Most of these sunfish grow fairly large. I'm certain they will not be on the menu. Plus these species are commonly kept together.
Have you considered some kind of bass? Or possibly even a gar 0.o
The cat fish gonna eat the littles sun fish at night😞
I put spring tails in a terrarium , then cobwebs started to form all over and I don’t know what’s going on ? Can I have help plz , thanks
@SerpaDesign

It's just mold. Springtails won't eliminate it overnight. What all do you have in you terrarium (material wise)?
@caki4072
6 жыл бұрын
SerpaDesign I used moss for the separator to see what would happen and it works and I put a piece of bark and moss for the top and I put the springtails in with some springtails feed and mold started to grow, it hasn’t grown too much but the springtails have gone to the bottom through the separator and into the experimental nuts instead of stones (which have started to root ) where there is also a bit of mold on top of a nut or two and I don’t know what to do ? I don’t know whether I should make another terrarium to save them ?

@SerpaDesign

Lol I'm just a regular guy with a KZread channel! Let me get this straight, you used nuts for the false bottom (walnuts or something crushed up I assume)? Chances are that is molding more than anything else and the springtails are only eating that. Any sort of wood almost always mold initially. I'm certain the springtails would have addressed the issue on the surface had you not used nuts for the false bottom. I would recommend making another terrarium and salvage what materials you can, if desired.
