Noam, I may have missed it, but is it your belief that the man should pick up the check regardless of income during the courtship process only or throughout the relationship? I've always been inclined to pick up the check while dating out of tradition. However, I've been in a relationship for 4 years now, and we go dutch except for special occasions, e g., birthdays, date nights, etc. It isn't a matter of being cheap. We make around the same income, and she doesn't expect me to pay for everything, just like I don't expect her to have my dinner ready for me when I get home from work. Times have indeed changed.

Yes. Men should always pick up the check. Any other outcome is parsimoniousness dressed up as egalitarianism!!!

@mannyshouse3708 Let's assume that blanket statement is true. Why is the man obligated to pay for something that his partner is perfectly able to pay for herself? Is there some standing here other than just because?
