LIVE EVENT Q&A: Dr. Andrew Huberman Question & Answer in Los Angeles, CA
Ғылым және технология
Recently I had the pleasure of hosting a live event in Los Angeles, CA. This event was part of a lecture series called The Brain Body Contract. My favorite part of the evening was the question & answer period, where I had the opportunity to answer questions from the attendees of each event. Included here is the Q&A from our event in Los Angeles, CA.

The section about "mindfulness" being one of the best habits for a teenager really hit hard. I started meditating and journaling at age 19 and it completely removed my exam stress and social anxiety, A teacher was actually doing an after school workshop on it and I nearly didn't. I still shudder to think the man I'd be if I hadn't attended that workshop.... this should be taught in schools. Mindfulness and mental health are "spoken about" more than ever, but no BS practical advice is getting scarcer by the day. Thanks Andrew for a fantastic episode

Seeing failure as a win…I love being reminded of how powerful our minds can be. Visualizing missteps from a positive perspective is an empowering message. So appreciated this extra opportunity to learn from Dr. H!

I think it shoul d be clarified that one should not celebrate actions that caused them to fail, I feel like someone could make that interpretation of that sentence. Instead, see mistakes in a positive light, realizing they are opportunities for improvement, which amplifies itself as the brain learns the increasingly immediate (potential) benefits of that.

Your stage presence versus your pod is so compelling; I love how you are able to combine all your knowledge here.
Thank you Dr. Huberman, team, sponsors and supporters☀️
Since day 1 I have been dazzled by the generosity and genuine benevolence with which you deliver the highly qualitative content. In the current info & communication landscape your HLP is sort of a lighthouse shining your warm light as a navigational aid to our daily benefit. You make a difference, a big one. Thank you

Hi Myrna 😊 How are you?
I can’t thank YOU enough Doc Andrew - your so generous and thoughtful about everything that you’ve been sharing here with us!!!
How can so much knowledge fit into a person's brain 🤯 🔥🙌
I want to thank you for your podcasts. I live in Australia, and TMS is not well known, and only recently approved by Medicare. I listened to your podcast with Nolan Williams, it inspired me to research the treatment. I discovered my psychiatrist uses this treatment, although had not mentioned it to me. I don’t think the Australian health care system has embraced it as a treatment for depression as yet. Until now I didn’t realise how depressed I was. I’m 66 yo work as an RN 4 days a week, I found it impossible to do simple things around the house, outside of work. I thought I was just lazy. I have just had my 20th treatment, (over 7 sessions of rTMS), this treatment so far has been life changing for me! Thank you so much for your podcasts, you are truly inspirational!
Such a powerful teacher ALWAYS ☝️👏THANK YOU MR HUBERMAN
Thank you so much for your amazing podcast, Dr. Huberman ❤❤❤. I start my day with it, I continue watching it in the gym and I watch some more at the end of my day. I recommend your channel to my clients and everyone who would listen 😊. Grateful 🙏

I have made fundamental changes to my life since discovering your work. "Thank you" just doesn't do justice to express my gratitude Dr. Huberman, but - thank you! I'll continue to support your work and share your podcasts + YT with my loved ones and colleagues.
Super excited to attend the NYC even tonight, I was curious how the Q&As work. Been a huge admirer of Dr. Huberman’s work and scientic communication long before the podcast came out! Kudos and best wishes to you for continuing invaluable work and sharing conversations and literature which were previously restricted graduate students and scientists.
Thank you Andrew, you are the light at the end of the tunnel.
Ps. I love that you mentioned the inner pads of our hands, and the soles of our feet are portals - that impact the core … awesome 👏
The goat of podcast Andrew 🐐
I really enjoyed the lecture and feel really fortunate I live in an area you had this. Thank you for the work you do.
This is a great episode to recommend to some of the people I constantly bombard with knowledge from your podcast. Usually I'm confused which topic to choose but the Q&A session would allow them to get a wider picture of your work and hopefully get at least a bit hooked on neuroscience like me.
Another amazing opportunity to learn. Thankyou Andrew Huberman!
Amazing, these Q & A became my favorite from your incredible content! Please Huberman Team, split each question and upload it to instagram as reels, its so important to share it further. I loved the answer to a 15y.o. question! I would love to share it among all teenagers i know 😍
I would love to see a video about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS)

Amazing channel, outstanding work, quality.... i have a dream, that in 10 years from know we will have learned to use social media in this (the right) way and every bit of useful knowledge could spread throughout the globe.
Just listened to this great podcast. I want to warn listeners that although it is rare, EMDR can induce a seizure in a patient with low-threshold seizure.
Thank you for making this amazing information in an easily understandable way. You're the N. DeGrasse Tyson of biology!

Thank you Andrew.
Always love the presentation. Thank you. Wish I could afford the products of your sponsors.
Thanks!
You are AMAZING! I hope to attend live one day and get to your lab at STANFORD
Always intriguing and explorative
I have an idea about something many episodes ago. You commented on effective stretch protocol (30 seconds at about 65% intensity) I intuit that the reason more aggressive or painful stretches for longer time are less effective for ROM improvement because the stress signal in those instances would likely suggest that the target of the stretch should respond by strengthening the capability of bearing a heavy load and would lessen ROM in order to avoid injury. So instead of giving the limb a longer distance it can move, you make it stronger at the extent of its current range. Both still are adaptations to the stretch. Do you want for overextension to be more difficult to achieve, or to increase the distance that extension can occur before damage occurs. Lengthen, or strengthen?
Thanks Andrew I have listened to all of your podcasts they, are so thorough and helpful. Could you please talk about the effects of products that are absorbed through the skin? For example, there are many ingredients that are linked to cancer in deodorants, sun lotion, make up, moisturiser and perfume. My main question is: is wearing sun lotion every day going to cause more cancer than skin cancer from not wearing it? Would love to hear from you and hopefully you can do international Q&A’s in the future!

If we don't have pain/sensory neurons in our brain, what is it that makes me feel the pain of headaches?
Great explanation of space-time bridging as a meditative exercise. It’s an interesting & incredibly valuable practice! Although not addressed because it’s out of context to your talk, that technique is also applied in the remote viewing protocols established by PI’s Russell Targ & Harold Puthoff during government funded research at SRI International (Stanford Research Institute), Menlo Park. So glad you touched on it!

Hello Dr. Huberman, I was just wondering if you can make a video topic all about appetite and how to increase appetite. As someone who grew up tall and skinny, getting into the gym has saved me tremendously. I have trouble eating enough food now to continue healthy weight gain. This is also a topic I can not find on the internet anywhere and Im sure others would greatly appreciate this as well. Hardgainers Unite!

Cannot thank you enough for what you are offering! I have recently come to know the fundamental challenge between remaining up to date on research as a practitioner (BCBA here) and the delay between the research and implications of the basic research to the applied world, WHILE maintaining a very high bar scientific quality. Thank you for making my job a whole lot easier! On the note of criticism or request... Would you possibly consider facilitating or contributing to a discussion on the "ND" world WITH ABA practitioners or (horror and gasp according to Dr. Sapolsky) Behaviorists and where the field is at in teaching perspective taking skills, using theatre and improvisatory games to increase social skills (mirror neurons anyone?)

ALL THE REASONS I LOVE YOU...🙏🙏🙏🙏😭😭😭🔥🔥🔥✨✨✨
Every time I try to focus on my "third eye," I think of the band, Third Eye Blind. Then that song, Jumper gets stuck in my head. Then I think about that scene on the movie, Yes Man, when he plays that song. So, yeah it's hard for me to focus when I meditate.
Hi Andrew, THANK YOU! A student
Would be great to do a podcast on what happens to moms that wake up constantly because of their newborns and tips on how to cope or what to do. This affects a lot of people :). My baby is 11 months old and she still wakes up multiple times each night. I'm sure it influences my hormones, maybe dopamine, diurnal genes, etc etc. For example: you wake up *every* 2 hrs in the beginning, you can't simply roll over and go back to sleep. You have to feed the baby, change diaper and get it to go back to sleep on a crib, which the baby doesn't like. This is usually 30 mins, then u try to fall asleep quickly because you know in about 1.5hrs, you will wake up to more screams. Then you can't catch up on sleep during the day because you still have to take care of the baby and maybe other kids. Maybe do chores, clean, cook, etc. Then repeat all over again that night and for several nights after. Chronic sleep deprivation. Maybe insomniacs can catch up on sleep during the day but caregivers of a baby only sleep "naps" during the 24hrs. This has to affect hormones, etc. It's hard to exercise, cook daily, have motivation etc when you are almost like in a zombie state. This is why in many places of the world, moms sleep with the baby in the bed so breastfeeding is easy throught the night. Babies hate being put in a crib and sometimes will wake up as you are puttng them down in there and then a whole other crying cycle starts. However, the American pediatrician and medical associations say never to sleep with a baby. I read a book that mentioned the CIA torture techniques are similar, when the terrorist falls asleep, they wake them up with a loud noise. Feels similar to me when I have a newborn lol, like I'm being tortured and woken up by screams when i had just fallen asleep. Anyway, an episode on what happens to the body, hormones, diurnal genes and cycles would be great and things to do. Such as keep lights very dim, try not to eat 2 hrs before bed, etc. Like some of the advice you already give plus more. And tailored to this stage in many people's lives. Thank you 😁

Definitely don't listen to who ever says don't sleep with the baby in the bed. I would look at Gabor Mate and how many recommendations on child care can cause brain shrinkage in babies and hinder their psychological and physical well being as adults. If you are worried about smothering the baby put them on a pillow or otherwise elevate them.
@mareezy

@@williammdsilva well, all pediatricians say don't sleep with baby in the bed. Apparently babies in America die much more when this happens. They suffocate. Do the research.

@@williammdsilva look up SIDS and America versus other countries. What causes SIDS. Putting a pillow or baby in bed makes them die a lot more than putting them on a crib. There are moms on youtube that did what you said and they regret because their babies died and they say they wish they listened to the doctors
@xavthomas
Жыл бұрын
@M It's true that it's cultural whether or not bed sharing causes SIDS. Some of this is down to the rate of things like smoking, drinking and other substance use which should never be done while bed sharing. Also cultural is bed firmness and bedding. 80% of bed sharing SIDS is due to the baby being under the covers with the adults. In contrast, in some cultures the norm is bed sharing and their SIDS rates are actually lower than in the US. More education on bed sharing would help both babies and parents. It can be done safely if parents better understand the risks
@xavthomas

@M BTW your 11 month old is safe in your bed. Low risk babies are more likely to be struck by lightning than die while bed sharing once they reach 4 months of age.

Hello, I hope everyone is doing well. I did'nt know where to post this, so I choose the latest post on the channel. First I want to thank you a lot for your teachings on the internet, I discover you with the rich roll podcast and it helped me a lot. I had a long path leading staright-edgeness, i like to believe that you helped me with it. Second I'm would like to know if it will be possible to have some content only regarding caffeine and maybe sugar, and how it affect someone to better decide what we miss when we don't want to modify our conscioussness the most possible. I know it's kinda the other way around but i'm still curious. Thanks for all !
Cold showers seem to work for me, start off with a cool shower and then turn the warmth down gradually. Very refreshing when the weather is hot or warm.
It would be GREAT to have an episode about high skills/gftedness and the differences in the brain or mind when comparing to ADHD or even autism.
Can you make an entire episode dedicated to caffeine? 💯
Can you do a podcast on sunscreen? And include whether or not certain foods can help prevent sunburns?
Dr Huberman, wondering if cold air of a similar temperature would have the same effect as cold water. And if not, why not? Thanks
Can you make a video on PMS and what tools can help 😊
Love your show BUT it would be great if you could do THESE TWO THINGS: 1) Summarize the main points right at the beginning 2) Provide time stamps for topics you cover WHY? Because sometimes people have time to listen to the full show, and sometimes not. The show is always great, but always very long, and people like me don't often have the time to listen to the full shows. I try, but can't keep up. So, providing those two things would be SUPER helpful. Thanks!
I'm only at minute 1:00, but can we talk for a moment about the visual of these hundreds and hundreds of people who came to see a lecture about science?! the man turned academic research to a freaking rock show. Amazing.
Please make a video about overthink.
Can you please please please do a podcast episode on hypothalamic amennorhea? 🙏🏼
Do you believe that besides doing the works, for ourselves to get motivation, what do you say about and instead doing and giving to others for a very long lasting result?? I don't understand why you don't tap into that?? Isn't giving a HUGE piece of what you've been helping folks to realize Andrew?? I keep watching and waiting for you to help everyone understand that truths fact.

Dear Andrew, do you plan to do a podcast about Fibromyalgia? This spread phenomena takes the toll of 4-6% of the world population and a podcast on this matter can be very relevant to such patients or their family members and friends. Please let me know so I can update the head of the Fibromialgia association in Israel. I would like all of them to be familiar with your wonderful and informative podcasts. Looking forward! Maya
