    Those multiple languages is just one of the many ways that says how smart these people are. Do you know how difficult it is to learn even one other language? I know. I tried. And the music . . . Paige, Nkosazana Daughter, Lady Amar and so much more, is amazing. I don't even listen to American music anymore. Amapiano has taken over my life. P.S. I study isiZulu just to learn the lyrics of these songs! That's how great this music is. I've never been to SA, but SA has certainly been to me! Much love from Atlanta, USA, Georgia. L

    @@thewordsmith5440 At home you speak maximum of 2, the rest, black South Africans make the conscious effort to learn from a young age because they want to be able to connect and understand the people in their communities who speak other languages. This was also encouraged by Nelson Mandela, “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.” It’s in our culture to try and accommodate others. I say this to say it doesn’t come naturally, many of us learned other languages from outside the home (school, church, neighbourhood, etc.) and we make the effort. If it was easy and came naturally, white South Africans would also speak an average of 4 languages that are spoken in SA, but they simply don’t. 400 years and if one even speaks a smudge of any Nguni language the entire Southern Hemisphere becomes shocked. So yes @lawrencedesmondleach , your assessment is quite right, many of us actually acquire other languages in our late teens to adulthood. South Africans (Africans and black people in general) are quite intelligent, but many of them don’t know it, and many do not believe they are, because for them, learning someone’s language is simply common courtesy. If it was easy and natural everyone would be doing it.

The food is worth trying,but the vibe , the people, South Africa for me has my heart. One misses the small chats in the line at Pick ‘n Pay to sharing a joke with a stranger. Korea can be very cold (on the surface people are nice, but how nice is nice when someone is only doing it because it’s “culture”) versus in SA (and no person is ever the same, we have mean people to, just as they have many kind people) what you see is what you get. I’m not giving a clear answer, I may be nit picking but I’m just trying to paint a small picture for you. As a South African, I come to your channel to practice gratitude! It’s so easy to become disheartened but having an outsiders perspective reminds me of just how blessed we are so thank you for putting yourself out there! I love when you make direct comparisons because as a citizen of the global south we were indoctrinated to believe that the global north is more advanced and that is the standard to aspire to. Keep posting, I’m looking forward to more content and thank you for choosing South Africa as your home ❤

    Your channel is amazing! Love love love. I lived abroad in Europe for 6 years and was slowly dying inside, I missed our people. I'm a single mom and business owner also and would not have been able to be a mom with a high school boy and have the time and patience for my boy in a nother country. Since baby, we have had a Ugogo that's been with us and her daugters that envelopes us with love and support. You are very right about the respect and ease we feel towards differances and cultures. Thank you for spreading the truth efen to my own people. The grass is definatly green here. ❤

    As a south African, it’s great hearing the positives as people don’t always see it. We are actually far ahead of a lot of places in terms of our tolerance of race, cultures, orientations. We just need to improve education and employment. Social grants to able bodied people don’t help. People need to work to contribute to society

    You are such a darling, you reflect a lot and you have a positive outlook on life. Being born in 🇿🇦 (Soweto and journeyed through other towns and cities) 6 provinces and 3 SADC countries. Personally, I'd say One thing about South Africa and South Africans is their optimisms, we are believers and only the sky is the limit. We love beautiful things. In Jhb when we have chit chats we're opinionated, people can claim to know everything. So it's important to always have your own research on the facts and stats as your point to put across South Africans are full of humour and we find it even out of earnestness of things. We however abhor people who are not genuine about themselves and about their intentions in relationships.

    Nice video! That winter sun is the best some days. I live in KZN and the summer can be deadly. Winter here is chilly at times but also exciting and sometimes we get snow one week and sunny hot days the next. Although we have our issues here, the people in South Africa truly are amazing with such acceptance over all of all ideals. Plus we are generally friendly and happy people and many issues can be solved over a beer and braai. It's refreshing to hear good things xxxx

It annoys me, whenever I go home and people be like,' South africa is not a good place to live, people sell guns in the streets'....🙄. I have to constantly tell them, since I lived there (5years), I never saw a gun and never been robbed. You just need to be careful where you go only....

    You said it well. I am a Zimbabwean living in South Africa. The first challenge is the language. It's good to understand the language of the locals. However, South Africans are very intelligent, they are multi-lingual. It's interesting to navigate the challenges in a foreign country. I have learned a lot along the way. Thank you for such a great video

  • @pakiethoko
    @pakiethokoАй бұрын

    Talking about languages, I was born and bred in the Eastern Cape province. I could only speak Xhosa and English. I moved to Durban where the dominant language is isiZulu. That wasn't a challenge to me since isiZulu is very similar to isiXhosa, however, my roommate at the University of KwaZulu Natal was from Pretoria. His Zulu was so broken that I literally couldn't understand at all 😂. A few years later I moved to Pretoria and seTswana literally sounded like Mandarine to me 😅. I didn't understand a single word in Tswana. Thanks to English I was able to communicate easily. Since then I've learned a few more languages. So, you are not alone, it happened to some of us though we were born in SA🤣.

    Great insights & as a proud South African I really do agree with everything said! I had a friend come here from the US & he said something that stuck with me… He said (after days being shown around the nicer parts of Joburg & Cape Town) that he felt it was also important to not only to experience the polished sides but also to see & immerse yourself everyday life. He also wanted to visit townships, see the slums, witness how people make do with little etc. He said this helped him have a balanced view outside of the American stylized ‘motherland’ or Wakanda tropes & stereotypes he was used to or expected. I say this not discourage anyone, but also to say that it’s important (especially as a black tourist) to have a full/balanced experience when you come here, it’ll help to ground you and see people for who they are (dynamic, varied, rich in culture), not just being reduced to a homologous group. We are equals after all. Enjoy your stay, please encourage everyone to visit. We love hosting & having a good time here! 🇿🇦♥️

I live in the suburbs but I love going to location/ghetto because that is where you will love the respect, laughter, unity and just the beauty of being black. Our food, our history it is so much fun and amazing. People that don't know you greet you, you got to wedding and events without knowing the hosts, elders that do not even know you advice you 😂. Some lady said you are too beautiful my daughter to be smoking 😂 please don't do that to yourself in Zulu, with genuine angry, protective concern.
