Culture Shocks in South Africa as a Japanese-American!
Here's a video about culture shocks that I was not expecting in South Africa as a half Japanese, half American girl from Tokyo!
I've been living in Port Elizabeth, South Africa since the end of January, and I thought it would be fun to share some of the funny/interesting/different things I've noticed about SA so far. Really hope you enjoy! 🤍

Driving on the wrong side of the road in a queue. And that on a Sunday, when traffic volumes are relatively low. Edit: and then they go on a very violent strike when they get fined or impounded when they shrug off fines. Taxis are a criminal gang in South Africa, as is their 'union' SANTACO.

Well done!! You've got the accents spot on, and our love for "hectic" 😂 Plus robot and now-now 👌 Enjoy your stay!
This is brilliant.! Thank you😂😂😂 the accuracy of the mugger clip, oh nooooo😂
Great video. I noticed some of the local lingo has rubbed off, you said "yohh". Glad you're enjoying the country. I'm South African and did a solo trip to Tokyo and Osaka for my birthday. Was my bucket list dream trip, exceeded my expectations. Super clean and super safe. Left my cell phone and shopping bag in a sushi bar to run to the ATM, came back and everything was still there Lol.

@@NhlanhlaMathe sure, drop me your contacts and I’ll hit you up.
You say 'Ja' a lot. As a South African I find that endearing. I really like the way you describe the culture shocks. I watch a lot of content from Japan so I often wondered how a Japanese person would experience my country, now I know. So glad you love it here.

WoW….what a great video! Thank you so much for choosing South Africa as your home. You are so kind and full of life & fun. I really enjoyed this video…very vibrant, exciting with lots of fun. Regarding purchasing airtime and data, you can do this EASILY via your bank account …keyword is ‘Prepaid’ and access depends on the bank name/type. We love you sooooo much and we accept you as OUR OWN. Your XHOSA NAME IS ‘NOLUTHANDO’ which means LOVING in English.

Man what a refreshing take on SA! Love your work!
I'm from Port Elizabeth, it's a really nice and great place to grow up. Some of my best memories are from there. It has become very quiet, it used to have at least some night life.
The mugger's walk for me☝🏾😂😂😂. I know crime is not a funny thing in our country, but this one was funny😂😂😂 In all, lovely video and much informative. You could have noticed already how we just love people here. Regardless where you come from, you will never feel like a stranger amongst us. Enjoy our crazy beautiful country and people❤️
