This is really helpfull, especially also with other TVs than those LG OLED ones, as I'm now capable to understand what all the settings and some of those fancy names mean! Thank you! I'm going to rewatch this video and try to make an excel spreadsheet to note which settings affect which image properties. Game mode is interesting as I want to reduce input lag as much as possible (by reducing the internal image processing which adds lag) and the various cinema options are great, because I want to watch my content in the intendet color gamuts, contrast and screen brightness settings. Also I'm a fan of vivid colors, I want to see how I can combine all my mentioned desires.

Ok, let me just say this upfront. You guys ROCK! I just purchased a LG C9 tv and was having some issues. I also use this tv for a computer monitor. Not just gaming but for web browsing, youtube, editing and 3d modeling. While watching netflix and blu rays the tv is fine. Works like any other tv I have owned, other than it looks better. I normally get 500 dollar budget tvs. The C9 was a big step up for me, other than the old plasma I had years ago. With web browsing and certain programs this tv has issues with auto dimming. ABL and ASBL I guess its called? I called LG support and after doing a bunch of stuff they suggested that didn't work they told me the tv was defective and needed serviced. I said I don't think its broke. I think it is supposed to do this, I just don't like it and want to shut that feature off. I asked to talk to a technician and they told me no. WTF! I started doing some poking around on forums and discovered this is an issue with this tv, and other oleds and it isn't broke. I got some advice and tried it and it made it better. Like turning off TCP in the instart menu. Then I found some of your videos and your website on suggested settings. Wow, that helped a lot. Learning what modes to use for what, what settings to choose and how adjustments effect things. This isn't my first rodeo with setting up tvs, I am in my 50's, I have owned a few lol. However from the looks of it the oleds work a little different. I wasn't sure what to do with the oled light thing to be honest. I just set it to where it looked good and didn't blind me lol. I assume its similar to the backlight setting on a LCD tv. I had all my devices connected to my AVR and all running into my tv via the HDMI 1 port. Thanks to you people I discovered this probably isn't the best option because of how this tv handles things and does automatic picture mode switching depending on the signal. So I re did everything and ran all the hdmi cables to the tv instead and used the optical out for the sound. I set the HDMI port for my computer to computer you like you suggest and it automatically popped into game mode dissabling a bunch of stuff. Made the adjustment you suggest and it looks pretty good now. It still does a little auto dimming but nothing like it was doing before. It was throwing a fit on web pages before lol. The bright to dim swings were pretty extreme, even with oled light set to 50. It still does it, but its not as crazy and more controlled. Thank you so much for all the hard work you all do and putting the information out for us to use. I also like your realistic reviews and how you compare different tvs to each other.

Also worth noting that you can enabled 1:1 Pixel Mapping for 1080p content on a 4K screen by turning on Just Scan in the Aspect Ratio settings. This will only work for a device that is outputting the native resolution of 1080p, like a game console or movie player, and will not work for digital apps like KZread and Netflix.

Thanks for this video, you explained a lot of things I was confused about or mistakes I made. I have one question, when I use the Netflix app through my B8 the HDR logo doesn't appear for content, but when I use the Netflix app through my UBK90, the Dolby Vision logo appears when viewing content. Shouldn't HDR become available through the Netflix app or do I need to enable it somehow? Kinda a weird question, but the UBK90 doesn't seem to let me disable HDR DEEP COLOR for Netflix content. Is this normal or it doesn't matter? Thanks

I'm guessing your using the TV as a PC monitor, as I could then see you being able to tell. Otherwise with other inputs its almost impossible to tell. OLED and PC monitor use is where you have to be the most careful about burn in with static images, but damn does it ever look amazing at 120hz with G-sync enabled.......Such a dilemma otherwise I would also use my PC with my LG B9, but I'm not rich enough to expose it to high risk burn in and simply replace it if needed. I did try it out for about 10-15 min and ran a few games and damn did it look classy.... Wish I was a baller I would just buy a 2nd one for exclusive PC Monitor use....but I'm not R.I.P

Just got my OLED and I've been playing "Sekiro: Shadows die Twice" and spawned in the "fountainhead Palace" area of the game to test the GAME setting for HDR mode. I've found no matter how much I try to calibrate it, the default settings on that mode make it look the best. I'll be trying other areas to see if I can get similar results, but if I'm wrong about it being the best way to experience things I'm happy to take advice.

Honestly after MUCH fiddling/research seeing as I didn't care much for Cinema or ISF Dark Room, as they felt too "Warm/Yellowish" to my eyes. I found the "Standard" mode with very specific fine tuned settings to be best. This was after hours of scrutiny to provide the best imagine for all my content viewing, as I can be picky. Besides a slightly adjusted game mode for.....well gaming that is. This is all done on an LG B9 OLED btw with the current firmware installed.... OLED Light: 74 Contrast:89 Brightness:50 Sharpness:10 Color:63 Tint:0 Color Temperature:C20 Dynamic Contrast:Low Dynamic Color: Medium Preferred Color:(All 0s haven't felt any need to change these individually) Color Gamut: Extended Super Resolution: Off Gamma:Low Noise Reduction:Off MPEG Noise Reduction: Off Smooth Gradation: Off Black Level:Auto Real Cinema: On (only affects things if TruMotion is turned to Off. Which I will do if watching 24p Movie Content Only. If it's greyed out and you can't change it that means it's off either way) Motion Eye Care: Off TruMotion: User (De-Judder 2, De-Blur 0) OLED Motion: On (Also known as black frame Insertion) The TruMotion was the setting that I found to be the most debatable but equally important setting and after landing on turning judder to 2 and blur 0 while using BFI (OLED Motion) I was SOOO much happier with my viewing content. No stupid Soap Opera effect with OLED Judder drastically reduced for the most "Natural" feeling. Not Fake Smooth nor 100% perfect panning, it was a big personal improvement as the Judder at 2 adds almost no discernible Soap Opera effect. I recommend trying it out for yourself and let you decide, to be 100% clear this setting can introduce some "flickering" but honestly I almost never notice it. Example being I just got done watching a 90 min Anime movie on Funimation, and I legit noticed it "flicker" twice over that time. Very minor gripe for way more than enough trade off personally, but I digress it is a "thing" for you people that like to oppose things and whatnot..... If you like the "Soap Opera" and a super interpolated smooth image (which I know some people do and that's fine), a prime example being my parents who you just set things to Vivid/TruMotion Clear and it's instant amazement with OLED or LED...... then just ignore this and just set it to clear and move on with life. Anyways I hope this helps someone/somewhere, as this is what I found to produce great color/contrast/motion for my wide variety of content. Such as TV, Apps like Netflix or Hulu, and Funimation/Crunchyroll for Anime. Colors are vibrant but not grossly over-saturated, contrast is strong without over darkening scenes and losing detail, and I don't get a headache watching fast movement or feel like everything has become some cheap production. It's also not too bright where I feel like I have to squint or turn the backlight all the way down. At the end of the day everyone is different and it's up to you. Either way, I wish you good luck! -Matt, happy new OLED TV owner. TL:DR "It's a TV blah blah blah just turn it on and watch who cares"

I think you just have newer firmware, so TV doesn't switch between hdr10 and then Dolby vision, but goes straight to correct mode.

Curious the review said to leave True Motion with 0 on both settings for judder free 24p. But this video says to just turn Real Cinema On and leave True Motion completely off. which one is it?

Your right for perfect motion with no soap opera you need 5:5 cadence which is real cinema option turned on and gives you 24p x 5 to fit the 120hz refresh whereas true motion on 0 drops the frame rate to 60 with 3:2 pulldown which is the old fashioned way.

@@davidmoore1729 The out of the box pictures were good. It was on the cold side, so I brought the color temp down to W40. It does get bright. Not super bright though. I think the QLED TVs are much brighter than it is. I've only had it for a few days so I'm not concerned about burn ins. Also if you use this TV properly you'll be fine.

I mostly use KZreadTV to watch sports. I find the picture quality is very low on some channels. My tv is connected to the internet modem with a ethernet cable. Is it poor quality because its streaming cable, or basic channels are 4k therefore the picture quality is lower. I also find moves in netflix and amazon aren't as high of quality as I hoped when i purchased this tv. Would the quality improve if i get a better cable provider?

From my experience, streaming content is always kinda shitty because they have to compress the video. You need to use a Blue ray player (ideally a 4K player and 4K blue ry discs) or play your videos from your pc with a dedicated software.

👆this! The video is great but I’m not 100% clear on this as well. Specifically the Contrast option which seem to be set at 100 by default for HDR10 (Cinema) and Dolby Vision (Cinema Home). It’s not clear to me if contrast should be at 85 “to avoid clipping” or that only applies for SDR/non-HDR content. Anyone?

They give more clear details on their website. I will give a quote here: "For HDR and DolbyVision - We recommend leaving these settings as-is, do not copy our SDR settings over. "
