Great video, there's so much misinformation out there that ends up leaving people with bad picture quality. #1 rule I follow is not to use YT for reference material, YT compresses clips which will change even the cleanest material. I exclusively use spears and munsil 4k benchmark UHD disc. It's calibrated uncompressed reference material that is paired with test patterns to ensure this picture is set to a damn good benchmark before I start tweaking it to my liking. Also a lot of YT "pros" don't adjust their picture settings outside of reference, and the masses don't understand that reference picture is dull, dark, and red. It's ok to adjust the picture to your liking, using reference as a starting point makes it easier to keep the cinematic feel.

  • @sholmesbrown

Get the LG G2. S95B is the first qOLED and is full of bugs and flicker issues like the first OLED TVs had back in the day. G2 has a decade of tech development behind it and with the EVO panel can reach 1000 nits for HDR. Very bright! S95B also reaches that brightness and does have a little more vivid colour pop due to qOLED but you're gonna be throwing your remote after the 10th time the TV freezes while watching netflix. There's a reason all the big reviewers say S95B is slightly better but still would not buy it and instead would go with an LG G2. Colour accuracy is also off on Samsung TVs. I could get either for similar cost and have gone with the G2. But I mean... Your money do whatever you want with it. Just my $0.02

I have the older C8, so the following is based on that TV but should apply: For SDR content you can use ISF dark and set gamma to 2.4. Use ISF bright for daytime viewing/more light in the room and adjust the gamma to 2.2. Adjust oled light to taste and depending on ambient light in room. Use cinema and cinema day for Dolby Vision. Leave oled light at 50 (might default to 100 for newer tv models, in that case leave it there). For all picture modes use a contrast of 85, try to off turn motion interpolation, use warm 2 for color balance and turn sharpness to 0 (anything else adds sharpness to the original image). Also make sure you disable eco mode globally (look it up)!! Some might find these setting dull initially. If you do, try to give yourself some time to get used to them, as they should get you closest to the source material as it was authored. These picture modes can be used on all sources (Netflix, ps5), though for HDR gaming you might eventually want to look into that separately. Calibration will get you a bit closer to a reference picture, but just using good setting is great for most everyone and is likely to be all you need (though if you want to make sure you are 100% at reference, by all means hire someone to calibrate your TV). Also calibration is not really necessary for playing games, as no-one in game production really uses a calibrated display when creating them (this might change over time). If you want to get nerdy, HDTV test is a great (but pretty dry) resource. Also Rting for setting recommendations. Hope, this helps and enjoy your new TV!! Taking delivery of a 77” A1 myself this morning🍿

Hello i bought the brand new G4 LG and even though that screen is ridiculously bright when you navigate through the menu then you start streaming HDR and DV content and instead of being amazed at the picture, everything dims and dark scenes in movies are barely visible. I liked the idea of a film maker mode to watch content as it was intended by creator but was bummed out to see what it looked like in my living room. I then go for the vivid mode that i fine tune by reducing the contrast a bit and turn down the color so that it doesn't appear too saturated. i hope LG would push out a FW update with a preset mode that would allow me to watch HDR DV movie content in a room with daylight.

Your eyes are just used to seeing too much blue light on a screen. That's fine if you like in though. But after using the accurate color modes for a while, even the standard mode is too blue. A TVs standard mode is set that way to unrealistically boost the TV brightness and color to make it look more appealing at a glance. Since the image pops off the screen more. But it's not the accurate settings. I didn't believe it either until I forced myself to use the accurate settings. I thought it looks way too warm. But over time, it now looks way better to me.

People should try watching Extraction and MadMax when applied bt2020 to see how it destroys movie experience. Extraction literally looks like orange 🍊, and Pirates of the carribean : dead men tell no tales, that movie is already enough bluish and applying anything vivid, standard or bt2020 kills the movie feel.

Almost like the black dots on a snowy screen. Not enough to be unusable obviously, but I notice and it bothers me. I'm pretty anal about my tv picture(very anal) and I cannot figure out why. Try watching vivid mode on 2 hour+films your eyes will burn out of their sockets, if you do picture comparisons on a still image of course these settings look punchier but film maker mode is still the most accurate to watch films and you tube like Netflix menu screens will be far too bright on vivid or even standard settings on these Oleds, these modes cause eye fatigue over a short period of time so either cinema user for dolby vision content and filmmaker mode for HDR, just be wary of and mindful that the Oleds are generally a darker panel for a reason, unlike Samsung back-light mode. Oled G and C series tends to find a better balance with pixel brightness

Example on the aw3423dw rts is crazy over saturated, rpg brings it down a bit then standard looks like natural here... but I hope ppl don't just set a generic preset. We always need to tinker with the presets.. those ppl looked neon here.. lol.

The woman's face is to help one to understand what natural skin tone should look like on your TV. You don't even know what you are talking about. Just because the TV is bright and the colors look like they are out of cartoon, doesn't mean the colors are correct. When you go to the cinema and watch a film, it is corrected to industry standards, D65 kelvin. When you bring a movie home on BluRay, it should look as close as possible to the image that you watched at the theater within the capability of your television. You can't achieve that by bringing a TV home from Best Buy and using the brightest mode you can find to exhibit your display. It's also not good for the longevity of the TV. Go take a ISF Calibration training course and learn something.

Cinema motion is good enough to make picture smooth. If you're a savage turn all motion smoothing off. Set the colour temp to warm 50 or min 40. Once your eyes get used to the warm colour temp colours will start to pop and contrast will look better. Setup an ambiant back light behind the TV. I use Lytmi NEO so it matches the picture but any nice cool white colour behind the TV will help your eyes see the contrast better and picture will look better. Just my $0.02
